my sink is matt black, so it will never be shiney! [cunning]Grin

Longtalljosie · 01/03/2012 15:16

OK so... I've cleaned the kitchen for 15 mins and decluttered the hall for 15 mins. I can't say it's made a huge difference but at least I feel I'm on the right road...

bessie26 · 01/03/2012 15:45

doing something is always better than doing nothing! Grin

This afternoon I am mainly helping DD2 put shapes into a box, and then taking them out again.

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 16:24

OMG!! DS (8) has just sneakily helped himself to 3 small mars bars while I was upstairs hanging the wet washing.Shock They are only meant for an occasional treat!
I hope he's not going to be sick later! AngrySad

instantfamily · 01/03/2012 17:33

Thanks everyone and I will try. I did get done ironing of 7 dress shirts plus assorted bits and bobs but all of that while the breakfast was not cleared from the table. That eventually happened when the DC sat down for dinner!

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 17:54

I think my house wont be tidy till DD starts school. The living room looks like a toy bomb has exploded in there. I have just cleared a path through the middle so at least we can walk from one end to the other. My kitchen still has lots of washing up and I have a laundry mountain upstairs that never gets completely cleared. One day I will get there! I have to just keep plodding on one baby step at a time.

Today I have a SHINY SINK WOO HOO!!!! Grin I am starting to make progress!!

carrotsandcelery · 01/03/2012 18:55

Where have you been hiding? Grin Great to "see" you back Smile

I had a bit of an accident at the stables (fell off and landed on my head) Shock so have not been allowed to be on my own all afternoon. I seem to be ok though so I am glorying on.

My sink is also matt black so my version of cleaning my sink means: wipe the taps, empty and wipe the drainer, wash down basin and make sure plughole is clean. Takes a couple of minutes tops once you do the first scrub and then keep on top of it.

If you follow flylady to the letter your house does end up really clean and tidy. If you skip bits and pieces then your house still ends up an awful lot better than it might have been.

bessie I am actually going out 3 nights in a row [wild]

Well, I have a lovely shiny sink, I've even done tonights dishes so it's nice and empty!
I take it the 'ta-da' list is what you've done? Well, I've done 2 loads of washing and tidied the living room a bit. I am toddler-free tomorrow as she is at Nursery, so I should get a bit more done as a deeper clean.

carrotsandcelery · 01/03/2012 19:29

That's a good start Camper. All anyone HAS to do today is shine their sink. Anything else is extra.

BelinaTheChicken · 01/03/2012 19:37

Is it too late to join? I have shined my sink, got the toothbrush out on the taps etc. House is not as bad as it has been in the past, but is still a bit of a bombsite. Have to fit bursts of cleaning in when DS1 is at nursery and when DS2 will let me put him down, so 15 mins at a time might be a bit of a stretch as he is a velcro baby!

Oh, and my washing machine is broken, so am having to bag everything up and schlep over to DParent's house, very annoying, keep having to hand wash batches of bibs as DS2 is starting solids and teething, so gets through about one every 20mins!

carrotsandcelery · 01/03/2012 19:40

Hi Belina! Welcome to the thread. It is never too late to join in. Just jump in where we are.

I totally sympathise with the velcro baby problem as I had 2 of them. Lovely in some ways but exhausting and frustrating in others.

OP posts:
MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 01/03/2012 19:45

My velcro baby is now almost 20 months and is still as 'velcro' as he was at 3 months old :(

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 19:48

Hello and welcome to all new people. Smile

How's your head now Carrots? I bet that was a bit scary!

I have done a bit of a room rescue on the living room so it looks a little better.(still has some toys but they are tidier now).

BelinaTheChicken · 01/03/2012 19:49

He is lovely and cuddly, but he's nearly 6 months now, and it's starting to get a bit old... keep getting really motivated to sort stuff out, then have to stop after 5 mins to find something else to entertain him, or try to clean one handed.

On the other hand sometimes its nice to have an excuse to sit and have a snuggle Smile

bessie26 · 01/03/2012 20:24

My sink is clean/shiney/scrubbed Grin After further investigation this morning I discovered that it is the remenants of the sealant stuff that is black, so once that's all dug out properly it should all be fine. DH has said he will do it on sunday evening

I've also done a bit of a tidy up in the kitchen & living room. I think WM has finished, so I'll go pop that in the TD in a min.

Huge commiserations to Belinda on your WM woes! Is it properly dead or are you waiting for a repair man to work his magic? Have you seen these neoprene bibs? (I got one in sains) - you can just wash them in the sink & squeeze them dry! If I wrap it up in a tea-towel & squeeeeze, then hang on the corner of a rad, I can have it dry in time for the next meal! (DD2 is 10m)

Scout19075 · 01/03/2012 20:55

Carrots, how's the head?

Belina Awwwww, baby. I vote for sitting and cuddling. Wink Toddler is 2.4 and still very cuddly.

MrScout's boss is a right &$£&*&$ and he's not home yet (thanks to said current boss on current project). Yet another stupidly early start and ridiculously late night home. Poor MrScout.

I've scrubbed the sink/drain board. The drainboard (which is attached/part of the sink) could do with a bit more scrub but I've run out of descaler and elbow grease. Dishes & pots are done, except the slow cooker which is keeping MrScout's dinner warm and whatever dishes MrScout uses. Trains and people are packed away. Menu plan is done and shopping list almost complete (just going through to see what other essentials we're out of or nearly out of). Am now watching American Idol (I do love cheesy singing shows), chatting on line with Mom and do some emails.

ItsallGreektome · 02/03/2012 05:22

Morning all. Well I burnt out like I usually do mid afternoon and everything after that that gets done is a miracle. Made bread for dinner and tidied that lot away but dinner things are waiting for me this morning Sad. I really just want to wake up to a clean kitchen but just don't have the energy after about 5 to do much.

BlackCatTryingToFly · 02/03/2012 07:00

Morning all,

Greek I am the same, as in I never get all my washing up done before going to bed. I would like to one day wake up to a clean kitchen too.

I might not get on here so much today as I have one or two things to do out and about. will pop in as and when I can though.

Carrots Hope your head is better this morning.

bessie26 · 02/03/2012 07:16

Oooh, bread making greek?

At the weekends DH & I eat with the DC at 5pm, it makes tidying up SO much easier! Tonight is take-away night, which makes it easier too! Grin

Did everyone wake up to a clean/shiny sink this morning? (ignore any washing up next to it!)

BlackCatTryingToFly · 02/03/2012 07:25

BlackCatTryingToFly · 02/03/2012 07:27

Just wanted to say thanks Thanksto bessie and Carrots for showing me how to copy and paste and do links.

Morning all!

My head feels fine but my neck and upper body are stiff and sore. I am moving around like an old lady Shock I am sure I will get going once I have had some ibuprofen and moved around a bit more.

The clean kitchen thing gradually becomes a habit Greek. I definitely burn out at about 4pm and have sleep problems which mean I don't sleep if I do exciting stuff like dishes or ironing in the evenings. I do as much as I can as I go along and then hope for a second wind after tea, or hope that dh will do it when he comes in. You can't be expected to do everything yourself.

All you had to achieve today is a clean sink. It doesn't matter if there are dishes for the wash beside it.

Today all you have to do is clean your sink at some point in the day and get washed and dressed to shoes.

For those of us who have to do a school run that is required anyway but if you have smaller dcs and have been up through the night with a baby then it is more of a challenge. It does make you feel more ready to take on the day though.

Ta Das:
Washed (spent ages in the shower trying to loosen up my aching muscles) and dressed to running trainers
That's it! Grin

Dh is off today thank goodness and helping out with packed lunches, breakfast etc as I am going at the pace of a snail.

I will warm up though.

Scout19075 · 02/03/2012 08:52

Morning everyone!

MrScout has decided to work from the office in YOUT which means no stupidly early train to the Big Smoke and he'll be home tonight to put Toddler to bed. YAY! Toddler is still sleeping Shock and I'm convinced he's up early during the week because he hears the front door close/MrScout's car and he thinks it's rise-n-shine time.

Tomorrow is the Guides jumble sale so I'm going to try to go to my friend's today to drop off donations so MrScout doesn't see me taking them out in the morning. He knows I'm going in the morning to help with the set-up but if he hears bags he'll get touchy. The stuff going out is mine, or things we haven't touched in years, but we all know how MrScout will react!

TaDahs this morning include washing up the late dishes from last night and washing up the slow cooker (it was too hot to wash up last night).

I thought about going to the parent & tot gymnastics activity this morning but then thought we might go to the playground instead, before it gets cold again. However, the fog has just decided to roll in (instead of burning off) so now I don't know what we should do. Toddler needs to run around....

instantfamily · 02/03/2012 08:52

I have done babystep 2 including make up and washing hair. yippie! hung up a load of laundry and am about to attack the kitchen.

After I have cleaned the kitchen I will cook some yummy chinese food for my lovely DC on this beautiful day. tralala!
