Morning all, hope everyone has a good month, I am hoping we don't have to go to the hospital this month as in both January and February we have ended up visiting due to accidents and illness..

My list so far is

Feed and walk dogs
Tidy up lasts nights leftovers around the sitting room and kitchen
Maintenence wash on washing machine
Dark wash -- is in the machine now
Last weeks ironing
Light wash
Hoover around

If I get that done I will be happy, I shined my sink after last night debris clean up...

Dlamis · 01/03/2012 10:03

Morning all

I am having a duvet day today. The lurgy is fighting back, but I have a child-free day so am snuggling up on the settee with Brews and [biscuits]s and catching up on episodes of Bones and drooling over Agent Booth :o Have done a bit of flying, the early morning routine is quite a smooth operation now, lurgy or no lurgy < proud of self emoticon> and sink is shined. Anything else will be a bonus.

Camper - I did a crisis clean a couple of weeks ago, same reason - mum and dad coming :o - and it was suprisingly effective.

bessie - yes leave the evil dettol stuff on for a while. I've used it before and it's very effective

carrotsandcelery · 01/03/2012 10:17

Morning all! Well done on the link BC. I will sine my shink today.

bessie there was a thread somewhere about cleaning grouting recently. Everyone recommended something even scarier than the Dettol stuff. I will have a look.

Ta Das so far:

Washed and dressed
Dressed both dcs for World Book Day
Breakfasted everyone
Wm on
Dw unloaded & reloaded
Hallway shake n vac and then hoovered

I am now having a Brew and thinking about what needs done next. I think getting tonight's meal in the slow cooker and cleaning the worktops and folding and PUTTING AWAY the dry laundry is next on the list.

Dlamis I hope you fight it off today.

Where did the daffy come from?

carrotsandcelery · 01/03/2012 10:21

I can't find the thread bessie. I am trying to remember which one it was on. I suspect it was one of those ones that didn't start off as a grout cleaning thread ikywim.

I love swimming class with Toddler!

Just having my lunch. Anyone around for the 1 p.m. clean club so I don't nap with Toddler?

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 12:34

I might be if I've finished my lunch. Wink

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 01/03/2012 12:40

I can't as I'm off now to buy dog food and more paint. I have hung the washing out before I go though, and got out / wiped down the garden table and chairs - encouraged by the lovely sunny but cold day we're having :)

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 13:03

Ready Scout ?? And anyone else who wants to join in.

Meet back just after 2.00pm Smile

instantfamily · 01/03/2012 13:45

Can someone explain this fly system to me? Do you have to do the shining the sink thing EVERY day? If I start from the same item off a list every day, I will never get around to step 122 on my list, though, will I?

I do get all excited when I can cross things off my list, but I am struggling to keep even halfway on top of things.

I am trying to devise a system where I only do housework as much as my cleaning lady used to (8 hours/week) and then maybe an hour a day for the day-to-day stuff. Does anyone have a system like this?

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 14:10

Hi instantfamily, I don't shine mine every day. Not sure what everyone else does.

I have "Shined my sink" today though cause it's the 1st of the month, other than that I just clean it when it needs it.

You are welcome to join us if you like.Smile

bessie26 · 01/03/2012 14:12

Hi instant! Yes, you shine your sink every day, but once it's clean (day 1), it's actually really easy to do from then on. The idea with the Babysteps is that you start to build up a routine which you will (eventually) do automatically.

I think FlyLady would help you reach your 8hrs a week target. As well as my daily routine (shine sink etc) I do a once a week "home blessing" (1hr) which is basically a quick tidy up (zip round with the vacuum cleaner & scrub the loos). Fly Lady then splits the house up into different zones (bathroom/bedroom/living room/etc) and one week a month you concentrate on getting that one area really clean.

Sound good?

Scout19075 · 01/03/2012 14:12

That was almost a productive hour. How'd you do BC?

I don't shine my sink every day/night but I do give the basin a scrub down before and after doing the washing up.

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 14:13

I don't always do the babysteps in order IYSWIM. So say we were on day 10 for example, I wouldn't do "shine my sink as the first job that day.

I hope that makes sense!

Longtalljosie · 01/03/2012 14:13

Hello Bessie and Carrots! I'm ready to try again... Smile

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 14:18
Smile

Scout I did my own version of shining my sink for the last hour Wink. I am too impatient lazy to do it the flylady way.
What did you do?

*bessie you are much better at explaining things than me. I don't always follow the rules Wink.

Scout19075 · 01/03/2012 14:24

Ta Dahs:
washed up (breakfast & lunch dishes/pots)
scrubbed stove
took recycling to bin
hung up swim stuff (suits & towels) to dry
updated address book (had some addresses missing that have been driving me nuts)
checked diary for next few weeks (and changed swim info for rest of term)
limey-ed kitchen sink
prepped American Girl order
wrote note to friend and put letter & badge into envelope (sounds naff but I've been trying to do it since the weekend)
emailed friend regarding get together & activities
started menu planning and shopping list (since we've run out of a few staples)

Wow, I did more than I realized.

bessie26 · 01/03/2012 14:26

I guess it depends on what your definition of "shining your sink" is! - I cleaned it really, really well today (descaler & toothbrush were used), but every day before I goto bed I make sure it is clear (no clean or dirty stuff in sink or drainer) and give it a quick wipe, then dry with the tea towel (then put tea towel in the laundry) - the main reason I do this is because it REALLY pisses me off in the mornings when I have to move stuff out of the way before I can use the sink - having a clear sink means I am less likely to be grumpy Grin

  • Sink has been scrubbed & descaled & was looking all lovely, but is now covered in wet washing up
  • Home blessing (vacuum, mop, scrub loos) done
  • all bins emptied & recycling sorted (bin day tomorrow) and kitchen bin cupboard wiped

I've done all the things on my list & was just about to do some stuff from the ever growing "things to do" list, but DD2 has just woken up so looks like I will have to go play Grin

bessie26 · 01/03/2012 14:27

Hello long!

BlackCatTryingToFly · 01/03/2012 14:30

Yes you are right bessie. If I "shine my sink" it just means I have cleaned it but also tried to make it look shiny. I still have piles of washing up to do.
I must go and get on with it.
