I still need to do my 15 minutes declutter in the dining room/kitchen. Someone give me a swift kick to go and do it.

liveinazoo · 06/01/2012 20:27

7yo just wandered back down clutching her ear and pillow...could be another long night.
im sittin on the floor siftng through a back of recipes ive cut from magazines and am lovingly organising them into a file

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 20:35

2 minute hot spot isn't done here yet. I have monster headache, I think brought on by the stress of dealing with ds's distress. I have reglued the dinosaur though and hopefully tomorrow is another day.

I was going to have a wee drink tonight but I think I will stick to Brew now.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 20:35

I'm sitting here chatting with my mom online (she's five hours behind, at work) and doing my menu for next week and shopping list. This is not doing the kitchen.

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 20:38

I have a blog too live but also a book made of plastic wallets with all sorts of recipes in it. I use that book more than any other, even my beloved Jamie Ministry. You won't regret putting the time in.

I think the socks go down the drain. A friend of mine keeps having to get the washing machine repair man out and it is always a sock stuck in a tube. He told her to put all socks and small items into a mesh bag to wash them. She has said she has no odd socks or broken machines when she remembers to do it!

liveinazoo · 06/01/2012 20:51

carrotstop tip
must admit i love to cook.what with all the building work weve had done and the clutter i havent indulged this habit as much lately...wish we had some chocolate in the house.i seem to have accumulated quite a few delicious chocolate recipes and theyre giving me cravings

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 21:02

I don't know where live. Lakeland and Kleeneze probably do them. I imagine Amazon do too.

I have to laugh at myself. I don't do it myself Grin

liveinazoo · 06/01/2012 21:13

Thats why we are all gathered here nudging each other along and having a laugh.if you were mrs perfect you would faint at my less than house proud waysSmile

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 21:20

Yes, Lakeland has them. I [heart] Lakeland.

Kitchen declutter and fling thing done. Now off to sort out MrScout's dinner. When he's done I can do the washing up (if I did it after everyone ate I'd never do anything else except wash the dishes!

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 06/01/2012 21:21

Hi all, I think I saw those net laundry bags for sale in Morrisons. Supermarkets often have random things like that scattered around the aisles.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 06/01/2012 21:22

Well not scattered exactly!

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 21:28

Hmmmm.... quandry.

MrScout is a hoarder and I'm a packrat. The difference between us is I can objectively get rid of things out (he struggles -- that's another story). I work with the "have I looked at/used it in the last (number) of months? No? Out." So here's the dilemna. I have a box full of unopened/unused cupcake cases, some unused baking tins/molds, etc. They are all lovely. They are unused. Some I've had for several years. I have wonderful dreams/ideas but they haven't happened yet. Do I bite the bullet and get rid of? (I'm intriqued by the eBay idea....)

Someone, please, hold my hand and encourage me to ditch!

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 21:30

Ebay them - at least then the hoarder in him can see that they weren't wasted. My trouble with getting rid of stuff is the waste of money involved (not always but often). If I get some money back I don't feel so bad.

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 21:31

Baking tins and moulds sell quite well from what I have heard. If the cupcake cases are unopened they will prob go for a small price but will sell.

redlac · 06/01/2012 21:32

Evening all!

Have been a total lazy arse today and have hardly done a thing! In my defence it is the last official day of the holidays as schools go back on Monday and we go back to work so though I would have a v lazy day and the most I've done is get dressed to shoes and the breakfast dishes

I heart Lakeland too.

Do we stick with Brew on a Friday night on this lovely thread or do we have Wine? I'm not really a wine drinker - prefer a nice spiced rum and cola or a big mug of tea!

Back to it tomorrow

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 06/01/2012 21:38

I am sat with a hot chocolate drink Brew {Old emoticon}.
and a tin of roses chocolates

I think I will have to try at Flying tomorrow as I have failed today at most of the Baby steps.

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 21:42

I was planning a Crabbies tonight Redlac but my sore head has put me right off. Chocolate might shift the headache though thanks BlackCat

Eggrules · 06/01/2012 22:00

I heart Lakeland too.

DH has been off today and has placed his dirty dishes on top of the DW all freaking day. I am out tomorrow and so am NOT shining sink again tonight .

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 22:02

Part of MrScout's thing is "x was a gift." Sometimes he doesn't understand that a gift, while thoughtful, is unwanted or not useful. He also pulls the "someone might want that as a collector's item one day" (quite often said about an empty box or a magazine). However, he doesn't store the stuff properly so really, no one's going to want x y or z.

It sounds bad but I think if I ebay stuff I'm just going to have to do it and not say anything about it until much later. Or just not and use the money towards Toddler and I having days out.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 06/01/2012 22:09

Night all, I'm off to bed [tired emoticon].

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 22:12

Egg quite right too - It would really help you if you could get him on board.

Scout how long do you think it would take him to notice?

I would never get rid of anything of dh's which I think might hold sentimental value but there is plenty that I could dispose of that he would never even miss.

As I declutter I have taken to putting the stuff which belongs to dh on his side of the bed or his bedside table. Some of it has stayed there and some of it has found a new home in the bin, my ebay box etc.

Dh's problem is he doesn't value ANYTHING in the house which belongs to someone else and would happily sell it all or sees it as clutter yet he hoards running magazines and University notes from nearly 20 years ago etc.

It is very difficult.

Scout19075 · 06/01/2012 22:30

carrots It depends. My stuff I'm not sure he'd notice. He might make a comment about "where's the box" or "it looks empty here." Then again, he might not. With his stuff I have to admit I'm careful. I have done, and am doing again, getting rid of some of the magazines from various professional groups he belongs to. They are unopened/unread and were buried at the bottom of a pile where they had sat for over a year. He will sometimes get rid of them, too, so I don't feel bad. However, magazines he buys (such as Sound on Sound) I put in a separate pile. The pile is still there and in the way. I'm tempted to put out but I haven't. I try not to get rid of "sentimental" things but again work under "you haven't loved it enough to store it properly and it got ruined/is in my way/is crap" and get rid of it. He often doesn't notice I just have to do it slowly and carefully. If I do too much too quickly he has a toddler wobbly. I also don't make a big deal/tell him about it. Blush

I sound like a royal bee don't I?

carrotsandcelery · 06/01/2012 22:47

I haven't hidden the fact that I am ebaying stuff. Dh was amused to begin with but when he saw that I was making money he offered some items for sale too. Not many I admit but a few.

Is there a way you can make the stuff get in his way but noone else's? (that is why I put it around his side of the bed) Noone else has to go there.

Dh gets a lot of professional magazines etc too. They are a nightmare. He rarely reads them but they hang around for ages. One of his friends is on the cover of one of them this week so no doubt that one will have to be kept. (I would probably do the same for a while if it was my friend) Grin

eBay selling looks scary! Shock
