I have tried Fly but can't stick to it. I need a plan! And I need support

You definately need a little toolbox mogsO.

I have dug a few things out of the shed that'd be better in the loft (now DH has finally fitted loft ladder and its more accessible)Then I hope to get a few bits in the shed from the front room.Though we have a loft our house is very small and the storage not good so I tend to try to keep the kids craft stuff and 'plasticy' toys (like polly pockets) that won't get damaged in the shed in plastic boxes.

Its like a dance.Move A to B so you can fit C where A is,but A can't be moved until D is dealt with.......

I fantasise about everything having its place and being in order.I'm a self confessed control freak and feel very out of depth in my current mess!

mogs0 · 04/11/2011 19:15

I do have a rather extensive tool cupboard Blush but had managed without the electric screwdriver until now Grin

countessbabycham · 04/11/2011 19:23

I keep my own little tool box as can never find anything in DHs shithole of a shed

I try not to do anything other than the most basic DIY as quite frankly I'm useless Grin

HauntyMython · 05/11/2011 07:59

Hello everyone and welcome mogs :)

Thursday ended up being ok, I felt a bit down but managed to cheer up by putting music on and dancing around with my 2yo in between sorting laundry!

Yesterday was fab but I'm sooo tired now - still woke up before 7 Hmm - fireworks were lovely. Just written a big list of things to get done today.

I have managed to annoy my mum though - she brought over loads of kids books she's withdrawn from the library she works in, and asked me to look through and choose which ones the kids could keep. I said none as we have too many.

MummysTooTired · 05/11/2011 10:53

Hello, can I join you?
Some days I find it hard to get going so am in need of a bit of encouragement/support.
I have a side of washing up that I ought to do. and some washing I should do before Monday.
I also have lots of paperwork that I need to sort but that can wait for another day!
Anyone around today?

mogs0 · 05/11/2011 13:01

It's hard, isn't it, when people keep trying to give you things. My aunt lives next door and posts things through my door on a daily basis.

Yesterday she tried to give me a huge saucepan that she saw in the supermarket and thought I might need it - really, she bought it because it was only £7. I know she means well and is very generous but it's really frustrating when she knows that I am drowning in all my clutter.

Well, I have been to Argos and bought myself an electric screwdriver/drill and it's currently charging up.

My kitchen desperately needs a good clear up before the de-cluttering can begin. Also, I need to get some washing done before the weekend disappears and Monday arrives with no clean uniform for ds.

mogs0 · 05/11/2011 14:42

One job done! I have built ds' cupboard and he is now transferring all his toys and clothes into it - hopefully Grin.

Next, time to tackle the kitchen Sad. Not sure where to start...dirty dishes, I suppose.

mogs0 · 05/11/2011 15:27

Dishes are done
Washing on
Dryer on (drying the clothes that were left in the washing machine since Monday Blush)

Next I'm going to have a go at one of the craft projects I need to complete by Thursday ready for the first craft fair.

I might just check on ds' progress first...

countessbabycham · 05/11/2011 20:20

Hello all! Hello MummysTooTired and I hope you got some bits done!

Well done mogsO for getting the screwdriver and doing the cupboard before being tempted to move on to the kitchen.

I've been out most of the day today so relaxing, spending time with DC's and doing basics like a washload and washing up.

I am so hoping for my good clear day tomorrow to tidy up all the loose threads from this weeks sorting out.Place looks dreadful at the moment!

Haunty I seem to have some of your problem. It seems no sooner than I have had a big clear out of toys etc so they are all contained within the storage/toy box,the kids come home with a whole load of toys from a particular relative. It happens so quickly after that I am seriously beginning to wonder whether it's being done on purpose. It genuinely stresses me out when it happens,so I wish I would stick my neck out a bit like you and try to stop it happening! And mogsO you have that problem too,it seems.

Makes you wonder if its a common theme for those of us struggling with clutter.

Bossy I hope your Do went well!

countessbabycham · 05/11/2011 20:25

It's ironic that I'm on a sorting out thread, but I can barely get to the computer - a couple of piles of stuff I've sorted have turned into a 2ft x 3ft heap of debris as DC's have managed to pull out drawing paper and toy bugs all over the top.

One has to wonder whether one is pissing in the wind Grin

MummysTooTired · 05/11/2011 20:48

I managed to sort through one pile of old newspapers that I had lying around so some of that is now in the recycling bag. As for the rest of the work I have
--been Lazy-- left it till later or tomorrow!
So jobs I need to do are: washing up/ drying up, clothes washing, Tidying/sorting.
In my defense though I have been feeling a little unwell today.

Countess I know what you mean about pissing in the wind! It is harder at the weekend to keep the house tidy when all are home.

countessbabycham · 05/11/2011 21:02

Mummys without fail I say to myself that I'll do so and so at the weekend and don't manage to for that very reason.

But I always look forward to the weekends as that little spark of hope/that light at the end of the tunnel despite that. It's always -"that'll have to wait till the weekend when I've got more time....."

This weekend I have tempted DD's with a financial bribe for helping me sort through their toys (don't tell Supernanny!).Hopefully once they've done that they'll be so terrified of being roped into something else that they'll retreat onto the settee with their DS's and leave me to get on with it Grin

DH complained today about the piles of things I've been sorting through being everywhere. He truly can't see that unless I persistently sort stuff out things will get a whole lot worse very quickly as our house is very small!

As you can see I'm up against it with the kids trying to bury my efforts and DH complaining.........

Bossybritches22 · 05/11/2011 23:16

croak evening all, nearly lost my voice from talking to punters. Grin

Highly successful evening due to weather being so mild AND DRY!!!! We took over £2500 on the gate & over £2260 in the food/refreshment tent. Got to take off expenses natch but not bad for a small village bonfire night!

DD's & dog at Ex DH's so nice lie in tomorrow before tackling all the dirty pots, pans & utensils. Luckily a chum is coming round to help, but not till 11.

Sounds like you've all been busy hello to newcomers I shall be catching up with you tomorrow & next week, I put a load of washing on over night so shall be doing more tom.

Night all xx

countessbabycham · 05/11/2011 23:23

Bossybritches22 · 05/11/2011 23:26

Now absolutely knackered so orf to bed, thanks for waiting up!

HauntyMython · 06/11/2011 07:49

Well done all, and WOW to bossy's awesome fundraising! I'm not sure of the total raised from our fireworks night as I left before we finished counting

HauntyMython · 06/11/2011 07:55

Oops posted too soon!

Anyway - yesterday started well but then dh's eldest was taken back to hospital :( he had an operation on Thursday (breaking/resetting nose, draining sinuses etc) and he seems to have an infection, it's not stopped bleeding :(

FannyNil · 06/11/2011 08:22

Me too... Want to sell my house in the spring but it will compete with dozens of others, similar, many of which look like showhouses. Have resolved to tidy/fix one area of the house each weekend (I work full time). Over the past three weekends I have tackled the garage, shed and garden - so far seven car loads (small car) to recycling, charity or tip. Yesterday a charity came with a van for some large items (sad about old sofa but it was too big and dated from more prosperous days). House now in turmoil as I had some cheap, 'buy me' carpets put down and had to move loads of furniture. Why am I so attached to books I will in all likelihood never read again? Today am going to try and get the furniture that doesn't belong in here out of my bedroom. When I have made myself get out of bed and run off last night's excesses at Wagamumma's that is...

Mackrelmint · 06/11/2011 08:55

oh dear haunty - hope he is better soon.

Excellent job on the fireworks bossy!

Hi fanny - 7 carloads sounds great; must have made a difference already?

mummys and countess - oh yes, I know exactly what you mean about the weekends. Always tempted to think of it as a great expanse of time to fill and then find myself just running even harder to catch up...

Well I am in a bit of a grump at the moment - we were talking about getting a cleaner in the new house and I said I'm really happy to have a cleaner for the bathroom/floors/weekly kind of jobs but really if we want to keep the house looking nice we have to both commit to getting rid of as much as possible and getting good routines and habits in place. I also want dcs to help when older and for them to see both parents doing their bit. Well dp kicked back a bit and brought up a load of old irrelevant crap about how messy old houses had been and I just thought I can't be bothered so I left food all over the kitchen floor and toys all over the livig room and came to bed. There just is no point me putting so much effort in if were not both aiming at the same thing.

Then I woke up at 2 and lay awake til 5 worrying about the fact they gave us the wrong handles for the kitchen in new house of all things!

Meeting a friend for lunch today whilst dp takes dd to see relatives. Hopefully that will push me back into more positive frame of mind... Sorry for the rant!!

lucytails · 06/11/2011 11:44

i think i need to join this motivational housework thread today. sunday is my usual cleaning day but the weather is beautiful down here in devon today. we've just come back from the park and now the hubby is making lunch for us. he's off to the pub later to watch the football, my ds has a friend around in a bit, and i have some housework to do. today i need to:

hoover lounge
put washing the line
clean downstairs loo
clean bathroom
mop kitchen and utility room floors
make tea for tonight

i'm going to put the washing on the line now and clean the downstairs loo before lunch and ds's friend arrives at 1. Will be back later!

loosinas · 06/11/2011 11:58

oh god i really need in on that thread my house is a tip and i have no motivation !

MummysTooTired · 06/11/2011 15:11

Have been out for most of the day. Just done some washing up.
Am off to do some washing next.

lucytails · 06/11/2011 16:46

been busy today. tea is cooking waiting for hubby to come back from watching the football. ds's friend is still here, being picked up at 5. i have managed to put two loads of washing on the line. the kitchen and utility room floors gave been mopped. i also wiped over the worktops in both the utility room and kitchen too. the main bathroom has been bleached and scrubbed from top to bottom. I am now just going to put some bleach in the downstairs loo and hoover the lounge before tea, then do some ironing tonight whilst watching downton abbey. Phew!

countessbabycham · 06/11/2011 20:07

Hello All! Sounds like there's been an awful lot of us very busy today!
Well done everyone!

Bossy and Haunty you're excused because of fundraisers.Haunty I do hope DSS's nose is a bit better.

Again I've been very lucky as DH cooked Sunday roast because I can't and DD's were indeed terrified they'd have to help more so retreated.

I have got stacks done and I'm delighted! It's really spurred me on to continue.I haven't ever seen my front room so streamlined.

Obviously something else has to give so I've got a major pile of laundry and ironing again - but hey-ho!!

DH got the face on at one stage - I was really at the point of no return WELL AND TRULY breaking eggs to make an omelette and he went on a right rant about messing up the day by turning the place upside down.I was well miffed.
However after a calm down he came back bearing wine by way of an apology (so he should....!) Grin

Happy sorting everyone !

lucytails · 06/11/2011 20:23

ok since my last post we have had our tea. roast pork yummy. washing up all done and kitchen wiped down. both children bathed and tucked in bed. lounge and hallway have been hoovered. Big pile of washing ready to ironed in lounge. I still haven't cleaned the downstairs loo. I have my bottle of domestos bleach and some cleaning wipes here next to me as i type so this WILL be done as i now log off lol
