A-Ha mogsO! Caught you!!!I also work every weekday but on three days I have about 2 hours of "golden" time.Today was one of those days. But its hard isn't it?There's a lot to be said for "all work and no play...."

Why Oh Why do some people seem to achieve an organised, clean and tidy house, seemingly effortlessly???Envy

(Of course,I already know the answer to that - they don't spend hours on Mumsnet.....)

Mackrelmint · 23/11/2011 04:52

I did my 30mins in the kitchen and got through two cupboards. I spent the whole day thinking it was Monday then finally twigged it was Tuesday, which means only 2 days til moving day. 1 now as it's Weds. Yikes. Do not feel at all prepared and am awake mn-ing at 4.30 as I can't go back to sleep for panicking about stuff (move stuff and also a voluntary role I took on but then have completely abandoned as things have got hectic. Noone to take over yet so the backlog of work is just growing and growing.)

countess - how lovely to find your Dad's stuff

right, now to try to get back to sleep for an hour...

mogs0 · 23/11/2011 22:08

Darn it! I did 30 minutes earlier, infact, possibly longer than 30 and now it looks worse than before I started Angry. I finally cleared the dirty dishes which I haven't fully cleared for a week few days and now there's another huge stack of them to be sorted out.

I did complete a job that's been waiting two years to be done though so I am very pleased with that accomplishment! My sister gave me some silver-cleaning sachets. All I had to do was put the sachet in a bowl, add boiling water then put the silver I wanted to be cleaned on top of the sachet. Why has it taken 2 years to do?! Hmm I'm very pleased to be able to wear my 2 favourite bracelets!

Another job I've been putting off was bleeding my bedroom radiator. It hasn't heated up at all since I turned the heating back on and my room is, by far, the coldest in the house. I found the key, turned it in the radiator and water squirted out straightaway so now I have to get someone out to look at it which means I really have to tidy my room asap Grin

Hi all!

Have emerged from my few weeks of gloom & doom with renewed motivation if not more time!

I've managed to swap my teaching practice (need 2.5 hrs a week as part of my course) from stroppy teens to Adult learners, which is the area I want to end up teaching eventually. I have a much more organised mentor & the set up is less stressed than the college I was working in so hopefully I'll get better feedback & learn more! (less lesson prep to -yay!)

This w/e my DD's are with their Dad so I plan to have a blitz in the sitting room, particularly my paper mountain "office " area & hopefully get some Christmas prezzies sorted if not wrapped & cards written. I tend to buy odd little bits & bobs for weeks before as I see them but then forget what I've got or where it's hidden!!! ( Luckily they have birthdays Jan/Feb so spare prezzies get saved for then!! )

But best of all I get to sleeeeeep not always very late but till I wake up naturally instead of with the alarm. Been up at 6 for the last fortnight inc w/e's & rarely get to bed before 11.30 pm .......zzzzzzz

Work & college tomorrow & Friday to get over first!

HauntyMython · 25/11/2011 07:20

Hi again folks, had a few days away from MN last week and the thread fell off my TIO list. Will catch up on previous posts later.

Not been doing much unfortunately as we've all been unwell (I have tonsillitis ATM) and I am snowed under with work/college/PTA. DH has been ebaying like crazy bless him, made a bit more money, but we are going to stop that soon due to Xmas. We've also got rid of some stuff to my charity shop and school, and will be finding more soon.

I'm going to be cheeky and start another thread later on this board but I will still be here (will be changing my name though as I'm still on my Halloween one Blush)

Mackrelmint · 25/11/2011 11:34

Hope you feel better soon haunty.

bossy good news on the teaching. And the motivation!

mogs eek! To the radiator - I'm scared of anything plumbing as I'm always worried there'll be water everywhere. But well done on the silver - the good thing about leaving it so long is it's really satsfying when you finally have got round to it.

We are finally moved now and despite my pre-move de-cluttering seem to have brought an awful lot of crap over. I am defo going to have to keep up the 30mins a day habit. And I am just starting to realise what a pain it's going to be keeping our wood floors nice... Still, house lookslovely and is exciting to be in despite the stress.

countessbabycham · 25/11/2011 21:06

Just a quick hello!

Hey,we're all giving it a good go,aren't we?It's not easy at this time of year with Christmas galloping towards us is it? In the next day or so I'll have to severely restrict MN ing for a bit so I can keep on top of things (only other option is to cancel Christmas - which I'd do in a shot this year - bah bloody humbug Grin)

Nothing today as bad head (as much as I could do to get to work and deal with kids) but yesterday did some putting of DH's crap stuff into loft.

Mackrel well done for coming out the other end!!! It's amazing how much shite you can still end up taking isn't it?

Tonksforthememories · 27/11/2011 09:18

I spent yesterday clearing out our understairs cupboard! Now have piles of stuff for charity and the loft. More to do today so we have room for the rather tiny christmas tree!

PontyMython · 27/11/2011 09:21

I did NOTHING yesterday, I'm almost over the tonsillitis but we had a really lazy day - one of those days where the less you do the more tired you are.

I did write a list of what needs doing before Xmas though... Can we actually complete it though?

Also - random soapbox moment - if you can, now is a great time to donate to charity :) donations really drop off this time of year, I guess as people focus on buying presents. But we, the decluttering ones, could keep their stock nice and healthy :o

Bossybritches22 · 28/11/2011 09:53

Ponty that could be our mission Keep the Charity Shops Going!!

Seriously though I know loads of people who declutter to make way for new stuff at this time of year, especially with young DC's.

I'm still waiting for the wails from my two as they realise I blitzed their rooms for treasures junk before that jumble sale recently!!

OK I too have had a lazy w/e as the DD's were at their Dad's & I had Plans for a BIG clear out.....sigh I slept a lot instead Blush That said I did have a big washing & ironing session & caught up on lots of silly bits that weren't on the list but needed doing & were easy to do!

I also managed to have a sort out of all the bits & bobs I've been buying over the last months for the DD's to see what I have got & still need & I'm almost done! I alwasy get too man y bits but as their birthdays are Jan & Feb I can save some for then!

Today's list; Walk the dog-long one- I need the exercise!
Sort out the crappy mess sitting room, looks like a bomb has hit it, especailly my paper mountain! Particularly want to get the fire place sorted out & re-fill the log & twigs, time for evening fires to supplement the CH I think so I can stick at 15Degs!!

Countess I too am trying to cut down on MN time......& failing....it's too addicitve!!

mogs0 · 06/12/2011 23:41

Anyone still sorting?!

I've done very little in the fight against clutter over the last couple of weeks and it bloomin shows Sad.

My friend is coming to stay on Friday with her two dc. She is particularly clean and tidy and I am really stressing about getting the house to an acceptable level. I know she won't care but it really bothers me.

I've just cleaned the fridge and feel quite nauseous (sp?) at the things I've binned.

The dishwasher and washing machine are both on so I'm going to do some tidying/sorting/decluttering until they finish in about an hour then I'll be off to bed.

I'm working until 2 tomorrow so will have a good few hours to work on mine and ds' bedrooms then Thursday evening will be spent finishing off the lounge and cleaning the bathroom.

It is going to be Christmas in 2 and a bit weeks and I have 6 guests coming so I need to get myself properly organised from now otherwise I can see me cancelling everyone the night before in a blind panic.

I hope everyone else is getting on better than me...but I feel better for venting Grin.

Mackrelmint · 07/12/2011 09:46

Hello, still decluttering here - kind of...

We've been in the new place a week and a half now, and after an initial frenzy of box-clearing and attempting to find a 'place for everything', we have slowed to a stop and I get the feeling the boxes are starting to dig their heels in and feel comfortable in their spots.

I bought this book - www.amazon.co.uk/No-More-Clutter-Sue-Kay/dp/0340836776 - I don't love it, but it's quite good for a few tips and inspiration. she has all these mini-challenges to start, and then a plan for decluttering the whole house, so I have been farting around with pens and herbs and spices and the odd unwanted present here and there, but gearing up to do a proper plan on the house then really get stuck in. It is liveable, but it is not homely yet, and we had it all painted and new floors downstairs and stuff - would be a shame to just cover all that with junk...

Never done Christmas for anyone - I find it stressful enough just organising a few presents so can imagine the strain for those of you hosting! We're just off to my parents' (cluttered and dirty) house for a quiet one this year.

late night mogs! hope you are not feeling too exhausted and have a nice weekend with your friend and her dcs.

mogs0 · 08/12/2011 19:23

Mackrel - it's hard to keep the momentum going, isn't it?

I have just cleaned the bathroom and next on the list is the kitchen which has become the downstairs dumping ground (there's an upstairs version too Blush. there a about a millions pieces of paper/catalogues etc across 2/3 of the units so that is my first priority. Then there's a pile of not-sure-what-altogether building up in a corner. It's mainly washed clothes that need putting away. I'll be back when those two jobs are complete.

No need to reply, if I list things on here I seem to be better at actually doing them.

OriginalChristmasPoster · 08/12/2011 22:24

Hi all Smile

I've been lurking for a bit, watched 'hoarders' today...scary stuff, and just makes me want to throw everything out.

I'm joining late. I've got visitors over Christmas and need a final motivation to throw out more stuff. the house looks ok, except for the study, which has a lot of dhs work stuff piled up, but I can't deal with it-he is taking a bag in every day for shredding. I do have a lot of cupboards and drawers full of stuff which needs to go.

The whole place needs a good Hoover before my mum gets here, or else she'll do it for me Blush. I'd rather she just relaxed and drank whisky.

mogs0 · 08/12/2011 22:35

Original - I think I need to watch that too as I am very unmotivated at the moment despite the many reasons that I have for wanting a tidy, uncluttered house.

Well, I sorted out the junk corn in the kitchen but haven't started on the units. I just don't know where the evening goes Sad.

On the plus side, I have put the doors on ds' new cupboard Grin.
