I have tried Fly but can't stick to it. I need a plan! And I need support

I'm back! (something of a slow day at work...)

Just wanted to share; quite excited about jewellery storage ideas I have found:

Mackrelmint · 01/11/2011 11:55

bugger, didn't mean to post, also meant to add this, similar to above but possibly a bit easier?: www.diyideas.com/quickprojects/WallsFloors/wall-art-ideas_ss5.html

and this, which I think is LOVELY, and requires no glue gun etc. (but quite a bit more money!) : www.etsy.com/listing/79653531/espresso-printer-drawer-jewelry-display

am getting quite excited about finding the perfect storage for all of my newly decluttered belongings now... possibly a bit tragic but there we go

Mackrelmint · 01/11/2011 12:19

Right, I promise I am going to stop clogging up the thread after this.

I have decided that my previous finds were either too tricky or too expensive and that Ikea is the answer - either following Countess's lead with this spice rack to hang necklaces on: www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40070185/ , or even simpler, just a rail: www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30072646/ . OR, I could stick some hooks in the back of this, and put pretty little dishes in the bottom for odd rings etc.: www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90177198/

ok, as you were...

countessbabycham · 01/11/2011 15:10

Mackrel my spice rack is like a little rail with pegs on,a bit like the peg rails on your first link. I liked the little hooks too.I think it's better to go with a more random thing like on the first link then it can be adjusted to what you particularly have.I've stored my necklaces like that for years and wouldn't consider going back to a different way as it really works.

I am getting my MN ing out of my system now then I resolve to go through my handbags as the first stage of my bedroom sort out. It's going to be hardcore.I know it'll be traumatic to part with some but it has to happen.

Bossy i admire you for staying away from MN and actually getting on with stuff.

Cupcakes if there is any more talk of recluttering I will propose a motion to have you expelled forthwith!

countessbabycham · 01/11/2011 15:16

Right RIGHT

I am not coming back for at LEAST 5 hours and during that time I'm going to do something productive.

I shall report back with details.

Please someone give me a kick up the arse if I don't....

lampli · 01/11/2011 15:39

I've still done nothing. Not going to attempt anything until tomorrow. Still not washed PE kit, or ironed the mounds of uniform. I have set up the ironing board and iron in my bedroom so that's a start.

Tomorrow I aim to gather as much as possible together from the spare room and do a charity shop run with it before school finishes.

frutilla · 01/11/2011 17:37

I'd like to join too please!! So far today I have cleaned downstairs loo, washed floor, filled dishwasher. Don't have too much time with two DS's under 4. Going to tidy the living/play room now. It's only 2.30 here so not too bad. Need to do sort some paperwork too.

HauntyMython · 01/11/2011 17:49

Hi all :)

Bossy, I hope today wasn't too rough on you and your neighbours.

Today's been busy, college this morning (they've lost my NVQ folder! Angry) and then an extra shift at work in the afternoon. Tomorrow I'm doing 8.30-7pm, ouch.

Tonight we are ebaying more stuff (already photographed them and written descriptions on Word, just need to upload it all) as it's the end of the month and I want to use up some free listings before they expire. We've had some bids on books etc so some stuff is definitely selling, anything that doesn't sell will go to charity.

countessbabycham · 01/11/2011 20:35

Hello all!Hi frutilla

My 5 hours are up and while I am no tidier it's now piles of things to be redistributed.I feel very accomplished! I didn't do handbags as I got sidetracked before I got to the bedroom. But I've (with reluctant help of DD's) got a sack of toys and box of videos to go.And I've pared down and reorganised the shelves in the front room and got a box of nik naks to go in the loft (I still want the nik naks but they can come back out when the kids are a bit older and I've more time and energy for dusting.)

It looks so much cleaner as it's so much clearer!

Had some monster cobwebs - they were like the trick ones for Halloween Grin

DH has now done the fridge as he promised Smile

TheGrassIsJewelled · 01/11/2011 21:35

Office still a junk room. I have, however, sorted lots of dd's clothes - all the newborn to 9mth ones are bagged for the attic...
The landing below the attic is v hazardous with all my decluttering - it's dh's job to get it up the ladder Smile.

Mackrelmint · 02/11/2011 12:06

hello all, hi frutilla - sounds like an industrious morning!

I realised last night that the house has been quietly recluttering itself! Aaagh! I did at least do my pile of filing, but I seem to have sprouted new piles everywhere (wait, that doesn't sound right... you know what I mean...). I left my sewing machine on the table whilst I try and work out what I have done wrong trying to sew a simple bag, and it has acted like a clutter magnet and attracted great heaps of junk. And the kitchen is being colonised by newspapers, hats, gloves, old receipts, unopened letters, bike locks etc. etc.

I also realised today - slightly off-topic - that I need a thread like this for keeping on top of the personal decluttering/cleaning/grooming kind of stuff. Someone else mentioned up-thread how losing weight was a bit like a body declutter. Well I feel like my scruffy, cluttered up, messy flat right now, and I need a plan. I can't even tell you how long it is since I shaved my legs, and my hair is reaching a crisis point...

ack. how is everyone else doing?

(wait - will just set myself a quick list for this evening:

  • clear away sewing machine and clear table
  • bag up rags etc. to go
  • clothes wash
  • put away and sort bed linen)
countessbabycham · 02/11/2011 18:43

To much running around and general business again today to do much (work/kids clubs) but I am determined to do a little 15-20 min slot of something in line with my Grand Plan....

HauntyMython · 02/11/2011 20:08

Been at work 8.30-7 today. No intention of doing anything else. Too tired!

countessbabycham · 02/11/2011 20:29

Don't blame you Haunty

I've done a little slot.Sorted the under bed drawers where bedding and my handbags lurked.Have pulled out the bags for sorting and various other random things that found their way there.Replaced bags with extra set of towels.

Makes far more sense that way and have yielded a sack of scatter rugs for the loft....

I think my plan for the weekend is to sort out the stuff I've already sorted IYSWIM - ie make sure the loft bags get to the loft and charity bags to charity shop etc. so I'm not recluttering with piles and I have a clear space to work.

It's a longer process than I'd hoped.X can't get to it's final destination until Y has been sorted etc.Frustrating!!!!

Have a nice Brew Haunty and put your feet up!

frutilla · 02/11/2011 21:05

Thanks Mackrelmint, it was all a bit much though and started feeling heady from being too industrious! I guess I logged on too late today to make a difference in my lack of progress. Only did some washing up. Going to do some hoovering a decluttering of living room now. Must do better tomorrow!

Bossybritches22 · 02/11/2011 23:24

Hi all!

Countess & frutilla you're steaming....keep going!

theGrass Hope your DH has done his bit & you're enjoying all that space!

Haunty did they find your folder? How Angry of them.

mackerel the bloody clutter regenerates I swear!

lampli did you make it to the charity shop? VERY satisfying!

Yesterday went well, Pearl had a good send-off & the sun shone as we came into church which was packed, standing room only. Then back to the village pub for the wake, only had a couple but by the time I got back it was too late to do anything bar sort supper & chill a bit. Had lots of cuddles with the DD's in front of the TV. Oh & got rid of that jumble hoorah!!

Today I sorted a curry for tomorrow night's supper, 2 loads of washing, finished my planning session for next week. Then to the cash & carry for supplies for Bonfire Night,& ASDA for the rest as they're cheaper for some things. (eg 100 bottles of mulled wine!) Back home for a quick dog walk, lunch then out to college till 8.30. Got back, grabbed a cuppa & had a lovely long chat with my cousin who's been away & needed a catch up.

countessbabycham · 02/11/2011 23:36

Bossy it sounds like you've barely stopped and well done theGrass on sorting the clothes (it's actually quite tiring doing that because it all needs checking)
frutilla hope you managed to get a little bit of living room declutter done.
Mackrel I call those little piles breeders. You reminded me of my long overdue fringe trim.....

Happy sorting everyone!

lampli · 03/11/2011 10:07

Didn't make it to the charity shop but the stuff is all in the car ready to go. I'm trying to really concentrate on the decluttering as I keep getting sidetracked by day-to-day cleaning and it isn't really the cleaning that is the problem. I just have too much stuff. Keeping the place clean and tidy will be so much easier if I have less. What I am finding hard at the moment is wanting to keep things, particularly if they are nice or expensive. I have loads of bags that I just don't use any more as I am SAHM and live in tee shirts and jeans. Ditto shoes. I am reluctant to get rid of them but I am not using them at the moment. It seems wasteful to to get rid, and I will never be in a financial position to replace them. On the other hand they are taking up space in the house which is in itself costing me money.

I wasted half the day yesterday trying to get my new ipod to work. I need to know if there is actually anything wrong with it before I return it. I am turning into a bit of a luddite.

HauntyMython · 03/11/2011 13:21

I should really be Doing Stuff today. My only day off this week (thanks to all the extra hours) and DH is out as his DS is having an operation. Feel a bit lonely tbh - since I started work I find it hard to be without other adults :(

Went into town this morning (including getting wrapping paper so I can wrap more presents and put them away for Xmas/birthdays) but I'm going to spend a nice afternoon playing with the DCs for once, and try to do a bit of tidying up when I can.

Tomorrow will be a long day, 8.30-5 at work and then I'm helping out at the fireworks, parents staying over so hopefully they'll take the DCs out for a bit on Saturday so we can sleep tidy.

Ebaying going pretty well :)

countessbabycham · 03/11/2011 20:43

Haunty that sounds like a lovely day!! Need time for a bit of fun and relaxation - all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl!

lampli it does seem silly to get rid of good stuff. Can you bag up some of it and put it in the loft or a relatives loft till a time comes when you can use it? There's no harm in storing stuff in the loft so long as it's relevant.

I am facing moments of being really pleased with what I've done and then times I'm completely overwhelmed with what needs doing.

I think it's because in order to sort things out here it's a case of having to break an egg to make an omelette.Eg to store sandals in the loft I have had to clean them so they're all over the place drying. There's a box of videos waiting for DH to look through to see if he wants any etc etc.As a result the place is a complete shithole.DH was Shock when he came in!!!!

I have sorted out my handbags though Smile

Hello to everyone else

Bossybritches22 · 03/11/2011 22:53

Lampli try ebaying some of the handbags you'd be surprised what folk want!

haunty buying & wrapping presents is "doing stuff" hope you enjoy your time with the DC's & your parents.

Right, 140 pounds of pork ordered for hog roast, 400 baps,150 hotdogs, 10 kg frozen onions, 4kg of stuffing, vats of apple sauce promised along with freshly pressed apple juice from a local farmer who has had a good apple harvest! Also 60 litres of mulled wine, hundredsof gingerbread men/cakes, tea (100 cup box) Coffee one large jar,hot chocolate 2 large jars. That should keep the hungry hordes happy!!

Back to the lists....this w/e is written off by bonfire night but next week back on task. I shall be lying down most of Sunday afternoon in a dark room, once all the washing up is done, to save my strength for Downton Abbey!!

Have a good w/e girls (& boys)

Mackrelmint · 04/11/2011 16:30

lampli - I am in exactly the same position; keep getting caught up washing up/cleaning bits and bobs etc. but I know I just need to get rid of stuff so it is really easy to keep nice and tidy and clean the whole time. And I am struggling with getting rid of stuff too - although I have finally decided that the load of clothes that have been waiting to be ebayed are just going to get charity shop-ped instead. There is some nice stuff that it felt wasteful to just give away, but although some was quite expensive new, it would only raise a few quid second hand and I don't have the time to try and sell it or find friends who would use it etc.

I feel like I have been pretty non-stop today and yesterday and yet the house feels more cluttered than ever. I think because I have been clearing out cupboards so you can't see the progress unless you go in them, and little piles have been left here and there to do various things with. And there is stuff for the new house piled up all over the table.

bossy - you;ve made me feel hungry! although I probably couldn't manage 140lbs of pork. Sounds delicious. good luck!

haunty - yes sounds like a very long day today - hope you get a bit of a rest tomorrow

good weekends all!

mogs0 · 04/11/2011 17:27

Please may I join you all? I am a terrible hoarder but try very hard to de-clutter - not very successfully!

I am very envious of those with spare rooms and lofts - I have neither but do have lots of big cupboards so not really much of an excuse to have such an untidy house Blush.

Ds and I swapped bedrooms recently which prompted the start of a de-clutter but the momentum has slowed quite a bit now that the furniture is in place.

I bought ds new cupboards for his bedroom o Wednesday but I need an electric screwdriver to build them and don't have one so his room is a chaotic ess of toys, clothes and pieces of cupboard. I'd love to pay someone to come and build them for me but I am too Blush to let anyone see the mess.

This time of year is eBay time for me and I have made £700 in the last 6 weeks selling all the bits and pieces that have been hanging around not being used. I can see a small reduction in the amount of stuff piled up outside one of the cupboard doors but not enough to actually get into the cupboard easily.

This weekend, I am concentrating on listing more eBay stuff and making my kitchen clutter-free.

countessbabycham · 04/11/2011 18:04

Hello and welcome mogsO.Sounds like you're doing brilliantly! Wow £700 in 6 weeks on Ebay - thats fantastic! My latest declutter started with moving the front room/dining room around.I always find that the furniture bit is the easiest too. It's the nitty gritty that takes ages to sort.Get out and treat yourself to an electric screwdriver with what you've made selling stuff - that's an order!!!!

Bossy what you're doing sounds amazing! You're obviously one of those brilliant people who makes these things happen rather than just attending them.I hope it all goes well and the weather suddenly reverts to dazzling summertime for the day.

Haunty enjoy your fireworks!

Lampli and frutilla, how are you doing? And TheGrass did DH put stuff up in attic yet?Mackrel what is it with these extra piles springing up in our houses?

Work doesn't half get in the way of a good old declutter - hoping to deal with piles already made, over the weekend at the very least......Today I've managed to do very little,so need to pick up the pace a bit as things are definately at the getting worse before they get better stage!

mogs0 · 04/11/2011 19:01

£400 of that was for two pushchairs and ds' bed and matching furniture which left poor ds bedless for more than 2 weeks Blush. But, yes, you're right, I should just go and buy my own electric screwdriver - I had hesitated as it'll mean having another thing to store!
