October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Oh bloody hell. I shamelessly copied and pasted sc's intro from last month and forgot to change the names and stuff. You can tell how tired I am! Blush.

A mahoosive (in her words) thank you to sc for last month. I can't promise to be half the thread leader she is but I will do my best Smile.

The babystep for tomorrow is the all-important shining of the sink.

No missions etc. as it is the weekend and therefore family fly time!

Enjoy!

Hello DTG (Mrs D here), good to hear from you. Lots of us long term Fledglings still flapping about on here. Sometimes manage some decluttering too!

DreamTeamGirl · 30/09/2011 21:39

LOL LOL
See THATS why I love Ellie - she remembers my successes and forgets my failures Grin

I flew this week- my lounge is SPOTLESS. Bedroom is a tip mind .... Wonder which zone it is next week ...

DreamTeamGirl · 30/09/2011 21:42

MrsD!! Fabulouso to see you Mrs

Great so many of you still here- I lurk, then go onto other boards on MN, get the grump at the whole place and go away.... play too many games on facebook... let the housework standards fall.. come back... lurk... its a cycle Grin

elliepac · 30/09/2011 21:44

I will always be here because I will never get it right. So much so that I have just hired a cleaner Grin.

Hello! Marking my place for October.

Thanks SC that was a fab September thread you lead us through and also many thanks to ellie for taking on the October thread. I did snort at the copy and paste cock up malfunction.

I've had a rubbish last week of Sept. My DD has ANOTHER ear infection and possible perforated ear drum. She has already been referred for hearing assessments due to no speech (although she's 12 mths FFS!) and I'm going to have to re-schedule her immunisations due on Monday. ARGH!

Anyhoo (love that word) i'm approaching tomorrow with gusto (!) and hope to make it through to the 31st with all your lovely ladies.

See you tomorrow!

DreamTeamGirl · 30/09/2011 22:14

Oh Well DONE Ellie
I love my cleaner- only an hour a week, but she does ALL the surfaces in that time- and you know the amazing thing? She can get to them all!!! It makes all the difference, before she was doing 2 hours and not getting it all done...

You say you never get it right, but I bet your home is SO different from that first thread (July or August 2009 would you believe?!!??) in so many little ways :) and all for the better xx

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/09/2011 22:17

I know what you mean DTG, I don't have a cleaner, but can do home blessing (minus bed changes) in an hour now, it would have taken a whole morning previously because of the clutter.

We had a little 2nd birthday party on the thread in August, was nice!

substantiallycompromised · 30/09/2011 22:33

Hellooo! Just resting my stumps here tonight in preparation for the morrow ...

Thanks for new thread Ellie Have some more Wine!!

What do you mean "a small party" Whoknows?? I was clearing the empties and digging fag ends out of the carpet for at least three days afterwards ... harrumph ...Wink

Yay! Dreamteam our Flying guru is back!! Great to see you!

Nicknacks so sorry to hear about your dd - a (poss) perforation of ear sounds so painful. Hope she gets better as the w/e goes on..

substantiallycompromised · 30/09/2011 22:34

[Double take at thread title]

substantiallycompromised · 30/09/2011 22:37

Well, I can do 'mellow' alright ...

LinzerTorte · 30/09/2011 22:41

Marking my spot (which is about all I am capable of after Wine Wine Wine). Grin

Thanks for the new thread ellie and for your splendiferous leadership last month SC. Smile

rowingboat · 30/09/2011 23:15

Hi all,

SC can I add my thanks, you have been absolutely fantastic and a bit witty. Have loved reading your catch-ups at night. Smile

Ellie are we back at babystep number 1 again? Cool! Smile

OK back from work, did just about everything. Will be continuing the carpet shampooing work tomorrow...and a host of other things, including watching the entire Emmerdale Omnibus in one sitting - tough work, but somebody has to.

Now I have gone and forgotten who had the orange phone which was locked to the network. I just wanted to say that if the phone is in your name you are entitled to the unlock code free from your carrier. I think they can be a bit sticky about it, from what I have read, but they should give you the code if you ask.

OuchPassVodka · 01/10/2011 00:59

Evening. Well as usual I fail the early bed babystep Grin But have had a marvelous night that almost counts as date night but definetly counts as soul reviving. happy smiley ouch.

DTG: fabulous to see you!!
I remember the first threads and feeling very intimidated when I first joined. Although feck knows what name i was using at that time. So you probably don't remember me. House is still a bombsite, routines are still not sorted BUT the total volume of clutter in the house has been significantly reduced. And when it has all gone belly up the wise words and gentle kick up bum approach has got me back on track. Well as on track as I have ever got. Grin

List for sat:
up and out
shopping
ds to museum
sort out kit for sunday training

Hope you have fun family fun days

feetheart · 01/10/2011 04:10

Just marking my place, woken by yelling cat who then refused to come inside then Autumn Fayre stuff kept my brain whirring so got up to do things. Will post then go back to bed.

Thank you so much SC for keeping me smiling even though I didn't do much Flying in September - the best laid plans...............
And thank you to Ellie for taking on the leadership mantle for this month.
I really need to take my turn at leading, I've been here for nearly 2 years and haven't done it yet Blush

Whoknows - you have inspired me. I meant to be good in September and do it properly but failed miserably. Going to challenge myself to follow the Babysteps slavishly this month (possibly starting on Monday, after the Fayre!) and DECLUTTER. I know this is the cornerstone of the whole system but I've never really got to grips with it - tales of clear surfaces will keep me going :)

Short list for tomorrow:

  • Look after friends small DD for few hours
  • LOADS of Autumn Fayre preparation stuff
  • Rediscover kitchen
  • Make Herman (Friendship cake!)

Bed now.....................

PositiveAttitude · 01/10/2011 06:36

Morning morning! Marking my spot with a resolve to be better in October than I was in September!

Today's goal for me is to shine my sink and tackle my ironing pile with gusto.

Thanks SC for last month and Ellie for taking on this month. Smile

elliepac · 01/10/2011 08:34

Hellloooo

Thanks for thanks everyone. As ever, you lovely lot make it a pleasure (and I have at least half a chance of actually reading and doing a baby-step if I am posting them)

But, that is the past. Am going to follow Whoknows's example and become a well-behaved Flyer this month.

Must exercise and lose some weight too. Put on a 1kg and a bit during September Sad

Right, off to chase dd around the house, corner her with a large net and get her to stand still long enough to create reasonably symmetrical ballet bun (in reality - ballet wonky eclair).

Happy 1st of the month everyone! Enjoy the sunshine!

droitwichmummy · 01/10/2011 10:00

Morning everyone and hello DTG!

Huge bunch of Thanks to SC for leading last month.

Not much flying here today as we are going out for the day (it is family fun day after all) but the DW is on and I am about to hang some washing out. DS has even looked at his homework Shock.

I managed the missions most days for the last 2 weeks of September so this month I am going to add the (not so silly) babysteps as well.

Have a great day

OuchPassVodka · 01/10/2011 10:03

Morning. There is a good reason why going to be at gone 4am is not a good plan. Pass the coffee...

So glad for an easy day having been planned. Next week I have crazy levels of plans again. Hmm
