October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Hiya everyone Grin

Good luck with the quiz nettie!!

I'm a bit Envy of all you people being allowed to play with lego!!DD and CM children all too small for choke hazard Lego Sad

I rang the health visitor today as DD hasn't been seen by anyone other than to weigh since 6 weeks Hmm and she's nearly 11 months now. Turns out she should have had a check at 6-8 months and DD "wasn't on the system" at all despite being registered at doctors and having her innoculations!! Isn't this some serious breach of child safety?i thought we were all secretly watched by these people!

Ta da so far;
Mirrors
Washed up
Shined sink
Sorted flowers
Stripped bed and in washer
S&s bathroom
DD tea (sausages and broccoli)

To do:
Mine and DB tea (pasta bake)
Clean up devastation of toys CM children left behind
Coal
Make new bed up

Is it an acceptable time for Wine yet?!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/10/2011 18:04

Evening all,

You are all giving me handy reminders of things I need to do at the moment thank you as follows:

Order more lego - Darkness
Freecycle loads of stuff - Blue
Chuck out our old kitchen plates and get the decent ones out of the garden shed (don't ask) and use them - Madwoman
Carve some pumpkins - Nettie and SC
Sort through old clothes for charity shop - Madwoman

Ellie - welcome back, Snowdonia is lovely, very loing time since I've been there though. In answer to your question about home bleugh, I have developed home-bleugh-lite, which can be done in an hour, the main thing is to leave any bedchanging out of it, and you have to do it in a particular order as follows:

Clean bathroom (10 mins) - put towels, bathmats etc in WM
Sweep and clean kitchen floor (10 mins) - cloth in WM
Dust hall table, mantelpieces in lounge and dining, TV etc and TV in our room (10 mins) - put duster in WM and switch on
Empty all waste paper baskets / bins - (5 mins)
Hoover down and up (if tidy enough) - (20 mins)
Put washing on line (5 mins)

Job done. House (mine is a 3 bed Victorian terrace) does need to be tidy first though.........

DarknessSoothes · 28/10/2011 19:20

Indeed Whoknows. Due to the thread I have managed to get stuff done today despite feeling like death warmed up.

Done
Carved pumpkin
3 loads of washing
Have the this is what we have planned for this weekend talk twice. dont ask.
admired the new lego creations
aquired a slightly sucked lollipop because aparently nothing says i love you more then the lollipop you didnt like the flavour of but know mummy does [hhmm] was nice though.
Deal with attitude with a lecture on respect and respecting people
teach ds how to close the garage door
3 loads of washing
a little nap
and am now off to turn the halloween fabric I bought nearly 2 months ago into a nice little 9 square block based table cloth.

Cba with training tonight so going to curl up with sewing machine, and then handstitching from the comfort of bed. early night possibly?

madwomanintheattic · 28/10/2011 20:22

well, three baskets of ironing done so far, and put away. something of a miracle in itself as i'm more of an either/ or girl usually.

but another three loads of laundry washed to replace it Grin

i'm now at the point where i'm making headway on 'not today's' ironing though, as todays has been towels and apparently pants and socks, none of which are going anywhere near the ironing board. i've also got a satisfying pile bilding up for the next charity bag, despite that not being today's job - there are some things that aren't going to make it back to the wardrobes for the judging...

ooo, sewing. Envy

and garden shed Envy too. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/10/2011 20:31

Zero flying here today, apart from damage limitation. DBIL and Dneice are staying for a few days, Dneice and the DCs are all playing very well together but it looks as though a hurricane has gone through various parts of the house, kitchen table has been converted into messy craft area, DC's bedroom, where all three are sleeping has not got a square inch of clear floor, my bedroom looks like a branch of Primark at 4 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, I had a big clothes pile, a big clean laundry pile and a big pile sorted to go to charity but somehow they have tipped it all into one big pile while looking for something under the bed .

We have had a nice day though, went to Southsea to the beach and funfair, sat in Portsmouth harbour entrance waving at the people going past on the ships etc. Guests go home tomorrow, so I will clear up then. Have a good evening everyone.

laurenamium · 28/10/2011 21:32

Grin at primark at 4 o clock whoknows

darkness also Grin at sucked lolly

Feel like I've got loads done today but I probably haven't really!house looks relatively clean though! I hope every one has lovely weekends planned xx

Toffeefudgecake · 29/10/2011 00:57

I have failed at today's babystep, thanks to my DC. DS2 just wouldn't go to sleep tonight and was still wailing "I'm hungry" and "I'm scaaaaared!" at 10.30, whilst DS1 and his friend (here for a sleepover) were still in fits of giggles at midnight, when I turned the light out for them. I think it has finally gone quiet now, though.

Oh, to enjoy some uninterrupted time! Is anyone else longing for the DC to go back to school next week? I really felt at the end of my tether today. And as for the state of the house....Flylady would be ashamed of me Sad.

Busy day tomorrow, ending with a dear friend coming to visit for the weekend, so that will cheer me up. Night night all.

elliepac · 29/10/2011 08:49

Morning all!

Tis the weekend so no missions etc to worry about today just our babystep which is pampering. It may seem a little odd compared to all the others but setting aside a little time for yourself is really important!

Have a good day everyone!

elliepac · 29/10/2011 11:11

Just me on my lonesome this morning then Grin.

Well, note to self, my ta da list for this morning is:-
Made beds
S/s bathroom
Washing up
Washing on
Ironing
Play dough session
Turned the tv off for the morning

To do:-
Putting away
Finish unpacking
More washing
Shops for face paint and paper
Dinner (stew and dumplings)
Friends for coffee
Try and set printer up
More washing

I shall see myself later Grin

Up early (well, for a Saturday) to get new school shoes for DS1, only to discover that the factory shop doesn't open at the w/e. Sigh. Still, got the grocery shopping done and checked out the toy sale at the bigger Sainsbo's that's normally out of our way.

I'm now half-way through sorting the laundry and got a bit sidetracked...

To Do
Finish laundry
Set up shredder
Sort old paperwork and start shredding
Drop posters off
Visit friends
Saturday pizza evening :)

SC - My parents are of the "hallowe'en as a gateway drug to Satanism" persuasion so I grew up never being allowed anything to do with it. I'm less fussed about it now but still not keen. Now the boys have come home from the CM with carved pumpkins, but DS1 is also scared of skeletons, so a bit ambivalent about the whole thing... Confused

Oh yes, and freegle is our local variety of freecycle, if that clears things up...

Toffee - I'm quite looking forward to getting back to school routines too. Wink

LinzerTorte · 29/10/2011 11:35

All very excited here today, as we're off to London first thing tomorrow. Grin So I'm in the middle of packing - the girls' suitcases are done (with the help of DD2), so about to do DS's now. House still a mess, partly because DH decided to sort all the Lego out into different boxes and that it would be a good idea for DD1 to start building the medieval village in time for Christmas. Hmm

waves to ellie, Blue and anyone else around (Blue If it's any consolation, I'm workless again and the weather hasn't improved either!).

DarknessSoothes · 29/10/2011 11:38

Don't forget the clocks go back tonight

[hgrin]Grin[hgrin]Grin[hgrin]Grin[hgrin]Grin[hgrin]Grin[hgrin]Grin

Morning btw

[hblush]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/10/2011 16:49

Well, some inroads have been made on the mess, all the craft clutter is put away, all the clothes have been sorted and a bin liner full put aside for charity shop, also a boot load taken down there earlier. Now feeling a bit CBA, which is unfortunate as we are off out to a Hallowe'en party in a minute, which involves fancy dress, a pet hate of mine. The DCs are coming with us, neither of them are great dressers-up either. We are all sitting around waiting for someone else to start getting ready. I sound very ungrateful don't I I am looking forward to seeing everybody though.

laurenamium · 29/10/2011 19:53

Hi all!!

Not too much flying done here today, did my morning routine then went to work, had dinner with my mum then went Christmas shopping with DD Grin

so only a small ta da today:

Hoovered
Sorted indoor rabbit hutch for cold weather and fireworks
Put rabbit in it
S& s bathroom
Washed up and shined sink

Off to watch x factor and drink Wine, anyone want one?Grin

DarknessSoothes · 29/10/2011 23:38

Evening.

Crazy crazy crazy day here. i could list stuff but still got tons and tons to do. Been productive though.

Makingchanges · 29/10/2011 23:48

I'm sorry again I have been awal and I haven't caught up but will if I have time tomorrow.

Car fixed after two days in garage and over £100 - guess it could have been worse Sad. Meant lots of pounds in public transport and lots of time wasted. Toay have been to a childrens party and been to cancel my gym membership - really not using it as costs ££££ and they now want to charge me another £15 to upgrade DDs membership for less facilities. Need to give 3 months notice though so will still be ££££ for now.

Have spent this evening setting up DHs new Ipad which is now my new Ipad - He won it through work and he doesn't see the point in them and I have always wanted one so he has given it to me. Soooooo excited!!! [hgrin]

Have been to a birthday parrty today and another tomorrow [hhmm] then off to york for a falconery and owl flying halloween event. Really excited but very late night for a school night. Am hoping for some owl flying as love owls. and hoping dd will sleep in car as over an hours drive away and very late finish.

Have multi-tasked and all washing is up to date so am taking the weekend off from flying before school returns. Hope you are all enjoying the end of the holidays

madwomanintheattic · 30/10/2011 00:54

Grin Grin Grin Grin I HAVE FOUND MY WEDDING RING AND ENGAGEMENT RING!!!Grin Grin Grin Grin

the joy, the joy! oh, the relief. it must be five months since i lost them! wooooooo hooooooooo!

i can't actually get them on, mind. Grin but i found them!

that's what happens when you actually start sorting out your walk-in closet y'know! wonderful things happen to declutterers. Grin they were in the white earring box i knew they were in, and a couple of earring boxes had been tucked into the top of a shoe box, obviously when we moved. Grin five months ago!!!

hooray hooray!

anyway, on a slightly more flylady note - i now have three more bags of clothes (and shoes lol) to go to the charity shop. this includes a pair of fuchsia pink lk bennett heels that i have never worn (as clearly i'm not a stripper, but at one point imagined i was) and a pair of unworn boden navy blue silk mules, which were in the sale at some point and seemed like a bargain. i actually feel quite liberated by giving away stuff. it's clearly been weighing me down more than i realised. and i've also vowed not to make any more 'oo, that's a bargain' purchases, because, well, they never are, are they?

more to do tomorrow though. i'm only about halfway there. Blush

on a less satisfying note, one of the dogs has gastroenteritis, and so there has been a large amount of bleaching and mopping. fortunately dh has been doing most of that. Envy

DarknessSoothes · 30/10/2011 02:21

Whoop de whoop . Fabulous news Madwoman. [hgrin]Grin[hgrin]

ds has a game tomo. early start. I cant sleep. figures really. its going to be a stupidly loud and early start to the day. A sunday. when the clocks go back. Today is going to be a long day Hmm

DarknessSoothes · 30/10/2011 05:48

Morning.

2 hours sleep is not enough sleep. FACT.

Anyhows a quick list for today before I jump in shower and move at speed.

shower, up and breakfast.
finish chucking last bits of kit into bag.
make a pack up as no idea what doing for lunch and if ds doesn't eat he is hellish
Put everything into the car
wake up ds, shove into clothes, shove toast into his hand and shove into car
Road trip
try not to cry from noise/lack of sleep combo
try not to kill ds
try to get ds into car post road trip
chuck him into the shower
ignore him to watch some tv whilst I mn/check emails
insist ds goes to bed early
Pass out, sleep, lovely sleep, as soon as ds looks like he won't be reaccurring.

And if i feel the need to fly properally it will take the form of a load of washing to wash ds' kit.

Right must now move at speed as need to be out of the house by 6:15am. too fucking early

laurenamium · 30/10/2011 08:52

Happy Sunday everyone Grin my sacred only day off is being taken up by sunday dinner at OHs grans and then a birthday party for one of DDs friends sigh

Fantastic news about the wedding ring makingchanges Smile

Just the basic routine and washing today with a rabbit hutch clean out in the middle have a good day!!

laurenamium · 30/10/2011 08:53

Argh madwoman not making changes Blush

Makingchanges · 30/10/2011 10:22

Great news Madwoman I'm really glad you found them. Not such great news on the dog but hope that gets better soon.

Darkness hope that the day is as painless as possible after such a small amount of sleep and that you get plenty tonight.

Well I woke up this morning to a defrosted freezer. [hshock] DH had plugged the freezer into an extension lead which had been slightly unplugged when another appliance had been unplugged. Everything has had to be thrown away and there is water all over my kitchen floor. So my flying today is mop the kitchen floor and watch the towels etc and restock the freezer. At least I won't need to have clear out the freezer on my list any time soon. [hhmm]

Ok DD has announced she has lost her wand for her witches outfit for the birthday party this afternoon and DH has decided that maybe he will carve a pumpkin after all so now I'm off to Sainsburys before the party.

Best get on. I hope others Sundays are better and more 'fun' than mine

laurenamium · 30/10/2011 17:26

Oh no that's a disaster about the freezer makingchanges hope DDs party went well

madwomanintheattic · 30/10/2011 18:19

oh no, mc. was there nothing that could be cooked up and refrozen? have you got freezer cover on your house insurance? urgh. buying a chest freezer is on my 'some time before december' list of things to do...

well, lots to do here today, but will make time to go out and do the pamper mission Grin a bit of fresh fall air will be something nice to look forward to after lunch!

grocery shop (dh on it now)
wm (waiting for above... Blush)
dw - done
ironing
hallowe'en costumes
hallowe'en goodies for 3 x parties
finish budget for grant proposal
sunday roast (mm mm)
make stock
sort out giant bag of winter hats, gloves, scarves and put in hall cupboard
put unwanted/ don't fit hats, gloves, scarfs in charity bag

enjoy fresh air!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/10/2011 20:48

So pleased you found your rings Madwoman.

Sorry to hear abut the freezer MC.

Hope your Sunday was still relaxing Lauren
Darkness - hope you are asleep.

Well, yet again no Flying here, but I have done some of the Sunday evening stuff to get ready for school tomorrow. I have had a lovely day out in London, a bit of shopping (I had forgotten how fantastic Selfridges is for whiling away an hour or two) followed by a meet up with some of the MN Couch to 5Kers including our very own Linzer which was lovely. We managed to only mention the word declutter once and talked about all sorts of far more interesting things instead.

Must get back into my proper routines tomorrow though.
