October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

ds is finally in bed. it has been a long day.

to do list:

shower, up and breakfast.
finish chucking last bits of kit into bag.
make a pack up as no idea what doing for lunch and if ds doesn't eat he is hellish
Put everything into the car
wake up ds, shove into clothes, shove toast into his hand and shove into car
Road trip
try not to cry from noise/lack of sleep combo
try not to kill ds
try to get ds into car post road trip
deal with not coping ds which got really rather messy and was rather draining.
chuck him into the shower
ignore him to watch some tv whilst I mn/check emails too late to consider
insist ds goes to bed early - coach delayed, plus needed to run some energy off after being couped up for so long
Pass out, sleep, lovely sleep, as soon as ds looks like he won't be reaccurring. just about to do yipee!

So the main list was completed. i think I am about to pass out. migraine this evening, although that is not really surprising.

Hope you are all ok and that you are ready to face the challenges of a new week.

Mission
New school shoes, take 2
Call dad to wish him Happy Birthday.

Makingchanges · 31/10/2011 12:47

Afternoon all, I've been naughty and had a snooze on the settee as didn't get back from York until late. Last night was fab, I got to stroke and hold some owls. Got excited as they do owl experiences too.

Came back covered in mud however, so today includes washing

List

  • shopping done
  • washing two load - one in.
  • sort car insurance
  • sort caravan storage payment
  • mission
  • dd swimming lessons
  • menu plan
  • 1 x job app
  • look at potential party venues for dd's party at end of month
  • play with new iPad Wink
Makingchanges · 31/10/2011 12:53

Oh no - and carve a pumpkin. I don't know how that happened I'm likely to slice my fingers off [hconfused]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/10/2011 13:00

I've just been doing pumpkin carving too, rather ineptly it must be said. Hallowe'en seems to have gone on for a long time this year!

Makingchanges · 31/10/2011 13:39

Ok pumpkin carved. It is the most basic pumpkin ever but it's done and I still have all my fingers - yay Wink

madwomanintheattic · 31/10/2011 13:41

you want to live here. it's been hallowe'en for months. i was up until midnight carving brains out of watemelons for all the school parties today, and dh spent the afternoon lovingly crafting a pumpkin eating a carved squealing gourd, which in turn had 'vomit' (seeds and goo) spraying out of it's mouth, ds1 vetoed the vomit, as he likes his hallowe'en nice and clean. Grin

right, lots to do today.

dd1 has an orthodontic appointment first thing with a new orthodontist, which is going to be very expensive as they don't use the same gear and so there is a very good chance they will arrange to remove all of her braces and start again. the joy of moving.

nettie, the girls decluttered their own bookcases yesterday whilst they were organising their new bedrooms, so i now have a big box of books for the second-hand book shop. Grin (it's a good thing they did it and not me, as i totally hoard books. i know, i know, hard to believe. Blush)

so:

orthodontist
freaking ironing (which was postponed due to hallowe'enery)
make pumpkin soup to get the flesh out of the fridge
wm (bedding today)
grocery store (milk)
dd1 pathfinders

try to decide whether to apply for semi-interesting job (think i'm going to end up doing an he trial with ds1 but he's thinking about it this week at school)

contact painter. dh has changed his mind about the baseboards. again.

and i need to read the babystep and mission, becasue i can't remember what they are!

[hgrin]

substantiallycompromised · 31/10/2011 13:47

Helloooooo fellow fledglings!

MC and Whoknows Have also been pumpkin-carving today! Tried to carve a friendly smile but ended up a little too psycho for my liking!

Absolutely glorious weather. Had lovely relaxing, quiet weekend with just the three of us and no entertaining - which meant we could get out and about in the sunshine. It seemed to go really slowly which makes a change.

Now enjoying first day of half-term holidays - spending it getting ready for our trip at the end of the week and having fun. DD is trying out roller skates for the first time (except they are v. different to the ones I had in my youth - wheels in a row instead of each corner). So have been huffing and puffing around the park with her... she is getting better and faster each time and she is soon going to leave her grab support me behind!

Ellie thanks for leading us through October thread when you have been so busy yourself. I haven't done as well as I had intended on the Flying front but hoping (as ever!) for better things in November.

Madwoman Brilliant news about finding your rings!! So happy for you!!!!!

That happy news really gives me hope as (not on same scale as wedding rings) but have lost rather expensive and much-loved fountain pen and I am hoping I am still going to come across it at some point in time to write Christmas cards/letters.

(But sorry to hear about freezer - what a nuisance, partic in the midst of your huge reorganisation)

Nettie Well done on getting to the end of your Frocktober challenge!!

Linzer and Whoknows am very Envy of your London trip but hope you have both had a fab time!

Blue am further confused about halloween v all souls etiquette here. School had sent a letter banning all ghoulish activity but little ones in maternelle emerged from school on Friday afternoon holding cardboard & wool bats that they had constructed that day. Then, later in the evening, went to pick up dd from a play-date at home of strict RC family (they are lovely - 5 dc + one more on the way) and was besieged by a dozen or more mini-Draculas. DD was VERY upset with me because she was the only one without a costume and I had stopped her from taking her witch outfit to school! Will hopefully make up for it tonight when she attends a ghosty/halloween event in local park in full costume and make-up, and same again tomorrow night visiting friends. Then I will hopefully be forgiven!

Ta da:
morning routine inc wm, dw, s&s and boudoir tidy
exercise in park
cleaned out guinea pigs
house recycling
office recycling
glass recycling
home bleugh ground floor
laundry x 4
prep veg for tonight
carve pumpkin
cover shoe boxes and wrap up Halloween biscuits
get dd in to costume and do her make-up
persuade dd to write thank you letter

To do:
office laundry (still procrastinating)
ironing
more laundry
evening routine

Waves to Lauren Swan (where is Swan I wonder? - Hope all OK) Nicknacks Feetheart Toffee and everyone else I've missed

Looking forward to seeing you on the new thread and thanks for volunteering Darkness

Flaps bat wings at everyone!!

substantiallycompromised · 31/10/2011 13:50

xposts Madwoman Like the sound of the watermelon brains!!

substantiallycompromised · 31/10/2011 13:51

Oh bum - sorry - made the same mistake!

Sorry MC it was your freezer that defrosted wasn't it?? [Bumble brain emoticon] Blush

BlueEyeshadow · 31/10/2011 14:26

Hmm, the pumpkin that DS2 brought back from the CM has gone a bit mouldy. Do bits of fluffy white mould add to the general effect (his is a bat against a window) or is it totallly gross even to think that??!

Didn't matter that I was a bit late getting to playgroup as they were 5 mins late opening the door! Hmm Have also done the mission and the pooter stuff. Bit more reading, Brew, and then head off for school/shoes...

Also need to call hairdresser and dig out toffees - last year trick or treaters started arriving before I remembered where I'd hidden the sweets!

LadyPinkingShearsHands · 31/10/2011 15:02

I am a week behind because of half term so am in the master bedroom. We have a mould problem aarrggh!!! and it is making both DH and i sniffly, sore throaty and generally off. Have pulled one fitted wardrobe from the wall - not an easy job - and the back of the wardrobe which is chipboard is all empregnated with mould spores Sad Have ordered some mould spore killer stuff which should arrive either tomorrow or Wednesday so we can properly tackle this problem but until then we will have to camp out in the lounge so no FLYing can be done in there until then. Am catching up with stuff though as let the housework slide while DD was off as out every day. So far have Done

Bathroom including all tiles and removed black mould spots in shower
Both loos
Downstairs bathroom
Made a huge vat of bolognaise so that's dinner tonight plus several frozen portions
Tidied up lounge/diner
Tidied hallway
Emptied kitchen/bathroom bins
Done the recycling
Done some work in home office

Still need to:

School run
Take DD to drama (remember uniform and lines)
Homework
Bath DD

Hope you are all having a lovely day and a happy halloween to you all [hsmile]

DarknessSoothes · 31/10/2011 15:20

Morning. Bastard headache. Sucks.
Got any good titles for the new thread lurking? Nettie?

Will be back after school run and more pain killers. Will set new thread up later but Confused and[brain freeze] wrt to titles. Any help much appreciated. TIA

DarknessSoothes · 31/10/2011 16:36

Defeated still by yesterday's migraine. But before I go back to sleep here is the new thread sorry for any mistakes.

Night.

NickNacks · 31/10/2011 20:02

Evening all.

Thanks Darkness for leading us through next month! Sad Sorry to hear about the migraine. Hope you feel better soon.

Apologies I have been here for the last few days - half term was busy! And productive!

I went to Ikea on Saturday with my mum and picked up a new Expedit unit which I built today and filled. I had a good sort out of the toys and had a declutter and everything looks really fab in the dining room/playroom.

Sunday we took the kids to Legoland and had a lovely free day out! :)

thank you very much Ellie for leading us through October- you've done a wonderful job!

See you all tomorrow on the fresh new thread!!

NettleShopOfHorrors · 31/10/2011 21:28

Evening all.

Thread titles escape me at the moment. I am reeling as just had police round as rather lovely trick or treaters tried to kick the door in. Barstools [hangry]

Anyway my Frocktober challenge will be finished tonight, well in a few minutes when i go and slump in bed. I thanks everyone for your support, donations and listening to me whittle on. I have raised a total of £512.62 in a month for Cancer Research UK. I am so chuffed. [hgrin] What seemed like a silly idea has really taken off and been so well supported. But is it with great glee i hang up my tights and retire in favour of trainers and jeans. [hgrin]

Today i managed to strip two beds and remake and do some tidying and some washing. No meal planning and had a chinese for dinner, naughty me.

Ive been faffing around all night on computer trying to sort out pictures of my challenge for fecebook and am now worn out.

darkness how about "November Fledgingly flyers; bang goes the dust and bang goes the clutter."

"With a Fizz-Buzz of fireworks and a Swish-Swipe, we Fledglings Fling-boogie our way through November"

Hope you all have a good night apologies for the lack of personals.
