October's Fledgling Fliers: Seasons of Mists and Mellow Flyfulness

elliepac · 30/09/2011 21:08

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Up early due to stinking cold and not being able to breath easily lying down. Hmm

So I have attacked the ironing pile with gusto and it is diminished down to a reasonable amount.

A bit of a busy day (when is it not?) so not sure how much else I will get done today. I am suspecting not a lot!

HAve a good Sunday everyone and enjoy the sunshine. Lovely yesterday sunbathing at the castle! The hottest it was yesterday is the nighttime temperature in the coolest month where we will be next year! Shock Love it!! Grin

elliepac · 02/10/2011 07:56

Morning all! I didn't get back on yesterday so I am here this morning with your babystep and your round-up. ALthough as madwoman says it is the beginning of the month so it may take me some time. It may be lunchtim as you read this. The time is 07.23. Ready, Steady, Go!

madwoman was at guider training thingy's, fighting monsters in the kitchen and doing her first babystep. No apology needed Smile

A very pregnant biblio joined us. Welcome to the FLedglings Smile. Does this mean we get another thread baby? How exciting! Shas has been nesting this week and therefore putting me to shame in the decluttering department. Hope you enjoy the thread Smile.

makingchanges had a frustrating day driving around Lincolnshire...maybe she drove near me? SHe also had a successful interview, wooohooo. Well Done!

nicknacks had a list completing kind of day and joined me in a moan about grocery shopping. I, however, can't send my DH shopping. HE volunteers bless him but if he does he comes back with 10 different types of doughnut but nothing to make a meal with Grin.

toffee duly marked her place. Big waves to her Smile

ouch dispensed advice on models of cells, put ice on her leg and is dead. Typical day in ouchland really Grin

rowingboat was dreaming of sunnier climes, had some droopy washing and had some happy tomatoes. All whilst waiting for mushrooms on the ceiling. I hope she keeps them as happy as her tomatoes Grin. SHe's at work today but did a fine job yesterday so she has earnt a day off!

sr has dropped her balls...how very careless of her Grin. However, having read the list of things she had to do, I suspect I may have dropped those balls too. Well Done for keeping on track despite all the stuff for the DC's!

sc was gleaning advice on fish pie and then contemplating ownership of fish. Any fishes that find themselves in her house had better watch out Grin. Fwiw we have had about 4 goldfish every single one of them has died in relatively quick time. No more fishes for us!

linzer has been visiting waterfalls and walking in the woods Envy. I visited Tesco and walked around the garden...it's just not the same somehow Grin.

blue has a functioning kitchen! And a pizza setting on her oven Envy. She also had a rather successful day. Well done her Smile.

coostoonettle is wearing a frock Grin. SHe is also defuzzing legs and taking children out for the day. Her very kind DH has bathed DC's for her. Well Done him Wink.

dwm went out and enjoyed a lovely family fun day but did manage to do the DW before she went!

pa aimed to start the month with gusto and ironing!

whoknows is aiming to keep her inspirational September into October

DTG popped by to say hi. If she is still lurking...we love you Grin.

PhewI think I need to go back to bed. Grin

Today's babystep is controversial. The principle behind this is that if you get dressed you are motivated to start the day and get flying. As thread leader I suggest you try this. As a human being, I never follow this and find, for some bizarre reason, I am most productive in my pj's. Go figure Grin.

Family Fly day today. Enjoy!

substantiallycompromised · 02/10/2011 09:15

Morning all

Thanks for links and round-up Ellie (extremely virtuous of you at 7.23 am of a Sunday morning!)

A warm welcome to Bilbilio and respect for flying in late stage pregnancy. Think I was firmly embedded in my sofa at that point. Take it steady!

Glorious day again here!

Virtually a repeat of yesterdays list (which I did complete bar French study). There's just more of the same today. Also did my steps yesterday (10, 047 to be precise!) Rather suprised at how easy it was - as I only did 25 mins extra walking than usual - worried now I am doing something wrong but have checked pedometer and it's definitely working correctly.

To do:
tidy up again
more washing/more laundry sorting
more hwk supervision
more October planning
more office laundry
exercise
French study
ironing and sorting of ironing
wash more sofa covers and net curtains
2 emails
Sunday lunch/supper roast chicken with trimmings
afternoon/evening routine inc. finding uniform etc
compose letter in French to headmistress

Hope your cold clears up soon PA. I must admit - I think Cambodian temps would defeat me (esp. humidity)

Arf at Rowingboat's potential beer swigging on exercise bike

Ouch MC bite sounds painful. Hope you are OK today. Well done re: interview - hope it all works out.

Thanks Swan - that's what dh said about the fish pie (cheese sauce if unsmoked and vice versa). I told him he can make it next time Smile Crumble topping sounds good.

Dh has taken dd out for 40 mins or so to watch the Bxls marathon so I had better go and profit from some peace and quiet.

Sorry no more personals but mahoosive waves to everyone. Enjoy your Sundays. Have a good feeling about this month!

NickNacks · 02/10/2011 09:22

Lucky me! I slept until 8.45am. DH is still in bed but that's allowed as his shift didn't finish until midnight so I've no idea what time he made it to bed. Boys came down to watch TV without waking the house (they like to ask first but i'd rather they didn't and left me to sleep) and DD is still snoozing her little head off. She went down at 7pm so this ear infection must really be taking it out of her.

Todays list

Exchange DD's coat and possible buy some trousers for me.
Iron and lay out tomorrows clothes.
Cook dinner.
Long bath and spend a bit of time 'grooming'. House looks great but the body has suffered!
Read some more of my book.
Homework with DS1.
Find some trunks for DS2.
Sundays wash (our bed).
Order school tie.
Start the Xmas lists.

Could add plenty more but it's Sunday, DH is working again this afternoon and I'll moan I didn't get a weekend if i do too much.

See you later! Have a great day everyone.

VirtualCinders · 02/10/2011 09:24

Downs mop

ponders on lunch,

and clips on peg to clean out rabbit,,

elliepac · 02/10/2011 09:46

Soooo what am I going to do today? Am currently watching Tinkerbell with DD but really should get moving.

Washing on done
clothes away
General tidy

And i think that's about it for today. Am going to try and persuade DH to go out for lunch. Cba to cookGrin.

Back later!

OP posts:
bilblio · 02/10/2011 10:54

Morning all and thanks for the welcome. Slept quite well, except for 4 loo trips, it's normally only 1 or 2, but I drank gallons yesterday. I also woke at 6am with BH and period type pains. DD woke a little after me so I sorted out her breakfast then had a nap on the sofa.

Today's list....erm
Sweep up in the kitchen (it needs a mop too but it's easier when DD is at school.)
Dig out the chore list from last time and pin it up where DH can see it. Maybe on his computer monitor. :o
Change DD's bedding.
Homework & reading with DD. She has to draw a picture of our house and family.
Oh and get ready for tomorrow, I'm going on a course for work. I know, I'm mad, but it looked interesting and it's free

I managed to get to the bottom of the laundry bin last week so hopefully a wash a day will be enough now (until LO arrives.) However DD spilt her cereal all over a blanket this morning so that's already been through the wash and is drying on the line.

Ellie The getting dressed rule really worked for me when I was on Mat leave last time, it was probably the best habit I got into. Shiney sink I'm not so bothered about although it is nice, but once I'm dressed I feel productive. No shoes though. I hate shoes.

Makingchanges · 02/10/2011 11:36

Morning all

Well DH and me have had a long and honest chat this morning, about his health, my job (or lack of) his parents and the amount of time we spend together. I actually feel better for it.

DH has gone out to a meeting and I have put a load of washing on. Other things to do today.

  • DD's homework - including a note to teacher about the messages she is leaving in dds reading folder Angry
  • Another 2 loads of washing
  • A good attack of ironing pile
  • Menu plan as didn't get time to do this in the week
  • S&S bathroom and en-suite
  • Pop to shop for bread for DD ([Sad] I want some)
  • Go out somewhere this afternoon
  • Out for lunch - I also don't feel like Cooking Ellie and as so far this weekend has involved my in-laws, I think DH owes me a nice meal.

Right better get the housework done whilst DH is out. I may be back later, unless X Factor gets all my attention again

OuchPassVodka · 02/10/2011 12:09

Afternoon.

I am destroyed. Too hot, too many going back to beds last night, too many changes of ds' bedding, too many bruises, too many sore muscles, too much to do. Plus someone had the great idea to sign me up for an aerobics class that is not permissible to back out of. Thanks coach Hmm.

Someone remind me before the next museum trip that a nearly 4 stone child is too heavy to be carried when they have a melt down and refuse to walk.

Today:
ds reading
ds treat for excellent behaviour this morning.
Sort out kit bags for training tomo
sort out school stuff for tomo
aerobics class.
early night
wash ds' bedding
remake ds' bed
Early night.

LinzerTorte · 02/10/2011 12:11

After our day out yesterday, had been hoping to get on top of things at home today - only DH decided that we should all go out to the park as it's such a lovely sunny day. So we took the DC on their bikes, had coffee next to the lake, collected conkers and then spent rather longer at the playground than we'd planned as we bumped into friends there.

Back to the chaos now. I really must get on top of the washing at the very least. I am determined to have the house looking presentable again by this evening.

Welcome biblio. Smile I remember you from the Farmville thread (I used to be aberita back then), before I decided I could no longer continue to completely neglect the housework and the DC and retired from farming. Grin

Waves to everyone else; hope everyone's having a lovely Sunday and enjoying the sunshine.

Toffeefudgecake · 02/10/2011 13:00

Had a lovely day out enjoying the sunshine in the woods yesterday, with friends, then spent all night sitting up with DS2, who was sick eight times during the night! Poor lamb. Had to put the washing machine on at 5am as I was running out of clean sheets. DS promised that he hadn't eaten anything he shouldn't have in the woods, so I suppose it must be a bug. I staggered back to bed at 7am, when DH got up, and slept through till 11. Woke to find DS chatting and playing happily with DH.

No plans today, for which I'm grateful.

Hope you all have a happy, sunny Sunday.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/10/2011 16:19

Oh no Ouch and Toffee hope tonight is better for both of you.

Another beautiful day here, went swimming this morning followed by a picnic lunch and then hired a rowing boat on a nearby lake which the DCs really enjoyed. House looks somewhat dishevelled, to say the least, but never mind.

coostoonettle · 02/10/2011 18:03

Sounds like most people had a lovely day.

I took dc to beach but left early due to feeling awfully coldy and fluey. Have been in bed since in my nightdress (frock for bed too)!
Thankfully dmil decided best not to risk catching something and Sunday dinner was postponed to next week.

Dh got dinner al la takeaway and is now bathing dc whilst I lie in bed.

Hoping he will manage school uniform ironing and packed lunch making before he goes out on his boat tonight.

I'm going to sign out and close my eyes. Hope toffee dd is better and I'm sorry but I forgot who else was I'll and can't scroll through on my phone.

Hope to be back to normal tomorrow. Night all Brew

OuchPassVodka · 02/10/2011 18:06

We have rain. I am in pain. It's too early to shove ds into bed. I hate my coach.

coostoonettle · 02/10/2011 18:07

ouch hope you feel better.

OuchPassVodka · 02/10/2011 18:12

Probably won't until they get this stupid wisedom tooth out. Going to have to pester the dentist tomo. please remind me.

Makingchanges · 02/10/2011 18:25

ouch and nettie and toffee's ds hope you are all better. To others I am glad that we have had lots of outdoor fun snd enjoyed the lovely weather - our houses can wait for one day to enjoy family fun!!

Dh took me and dd out for sunday lunch at dds fave pub (as has games machines) and then we went to the large park in the next town which has a fair and a crazy golf. I love crazy golf but was rubbish and lost SadGrin unfortunately i then had a lovely ice-cream and had to go to bed for half an hour as felt ill (i'm not sure there is yeast in ice-cream) i'm fine now and just about to be nasty mummy and instigate homework then bath and bed for dd and tea and snuggles in front if x factor for me and dh. Only managed washing on list but it will all wait for tomorrow.

Have a good evening everyone

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/10/2011 19:16

Evening,

Been out to the pub for supper with the DCS, turned out some friends had had the same idea so we all ate together and the DCs ran riot played nicely in the garden. So that was nice and saves on cooking / washing up.

Just trying to get going with the Sunday evening routine, book bags, dinner money etc, it does seem to come round quickly.

Bilblio - don't think I've said hello yet, welcome to the thread. I have just noticed on another thread that you are a fellow devotee of the Be-Ro cook book Smile - I love that book!

MC glad you are feeling better

Nettie - hope you feel better soon

NickNacks · 02/10/2011 19:38

Oh I'm so jealous, some of you seem to have had some lovely days out with the family! Bike rides, beach trips, rowing boats..... I bought paint for the kitchen on my wildly exciting Sunday!

I hope everyone who is ill, or in dental pain (the worst kind of pain!) including the DC's feel better soon. Thanks to all.

Evening all!

I have achieved sod all today Grin. I have spent the day in pj's althoughjust changed into clean ones after a bathWink. I have put some washing away, cooked dinner, kept the place tidy, shined sink and failed miserably to do today's babystep Grin. I hope you will forgive me if I don't round-up tonight as I NEED to watch X-Factor in great detail and am unable to multi-task whilst doing this.

I shall post steps in a sec. Like nicknacks I am very Envy of the days many of you have had. Sounds absolutely divine. I have had a chilled out day but nothing exciting.

Back in a mo with steps.

OP posts:
elliepac · 02/10/2011 19:53

**

Today's babystep is an easy one. We must simply do what we have already done. At least I know I have got to get dressed to shoes tomorrow Grin.

This week we are in the Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room

The mission for tomorrow will be here.

Happy flying everyone!

OP posts:
bilblio · 02/10/2011 20:41

Well I've spent today feeling generally rubbish, there seems to be a theme, I hope the rest of you feel better tomorrow.
I caught a cold about 3 weeks ago which brought on my asthma and has ended up as a chest infection. After 2 trips to the Dr and childbirth imminent they decided to hit it hard. I've just finished a course of steroids and I'm on day 5 of antibiotics. I was feeling a bit better, but the humidity today has made me feel rubbish again. But at least it's raining now. Hurrah!!!
Sorry to all of you enjoying the sun, but I've been hating it.

But I did get some stuff done:
Sweep up in the kitchen - done
Dig out the chore list from last time and pin it up where DH can see it. - Done
Change DD's bedding. - Not done
Homework & reading with DD. - Done
Oh and get ready for tomorrow. - Almost done

I also decluttered a corner of the living room, threw away 3 years worth of phone books and made room for the babies play mat.
Oh and I polished up my antique sewing machine I've been meaning to do it for months, the fish tank is on it so it gets a bit splashed when I do water changes.

Right just time to check the kitchen and get sorted for tomorrow before Downton Abbey starts.

bilblio · 02/10/2011 20:49

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes Yep, Be-ro is the ultimate cook book. I've got many, many baking books, I browse through them looking for something new, and inevitably end up back with Be-ro. I've got 2 versions, one about 10 years old, and one about 50. They're almost identical except for the odd recipe.

LinzerTorte Yep I also gave up farming in favour of having a life. :o Although farmtown occasionally sucks me in, and I'm playing the Sims but rapidly losing interest in that too. I don't want to get addicted to anything with a new baby due, but I'm getting bored with maternity leave already (after a week.) Hopefully I'll have the energy to keep cleaning until LO arrives rather than getting sucked into daft games again. :)
