June know it's the fledgling flyers?

A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

How have I missed the Kensington buns when I've been on here for 18 months? Sound delicious, will maybe have a go at the weekend. This rainy weather is putting me in the mood for baking, it is chucking it down again here.

CHB - I see your overnight viewing caused a riot in Vancouver!

INSET day here tomorrow so we've all got that Friday feeling early, which is nice. Back later.

FrauCinders · 16/06/2011 17:56

I will go with

a jam tart ..Smile

no idea why

but they remind me of my childhood

and a
Sachertorte

for country location

LinzerTorte · 16/06/2011 18:17

I shall be a Viennese whirl, as I always seem to be whirling around achieving very little. (LinzerTorte was my third choice of name as both VienneseWhirl and SacherTorte had already been taken - but DH is from the Linz area so I suppose there is a sort of connection).

The DC should be in bed, but we've only just got back from a friend's and DD1 still has to revise for a test tomorrow and learn a song off by heart. Hmm DD2 now having a temper tantrum - could the evening get any worse? Oh, and DH will be back late tonight.

FrauCinders · 16/06/2011 18:31

Hi

Linzer, another late night for dh here too,

Clea the Collie and dh the vet are at a Party ...Confused
the dog has a better social life than me...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/06/2011 18:48

Well, perhaps I will be a Scotch pancake, that is my most frequently baked item, and I am half Scottish. Mmm, Brew anyone?

PositiveAttitude · 16/06/2011 19:15

DH says I would be a nutty fruit loaf!! Hmm Grin

Successful day on the baking front, not so successful with the brainstorming. Either not much brain to storm, or not much storm to stir my brain. Confused

SC Oh my goodness, what a worry for you. Hope the new pills do the trick and the ticker stops dancing about. Take it easy and all that!!

Another semi relaxed day planned for tomorrow, so see you then......

BartletForAmerica · 16/06/2011 19:29

Just a quick hello. The baby and I both have developed bad colds since last night, so he's off to bed, I'm going to finish my cup of tea and then go to bed too. The house needs a little tidy but nothing that my DH can't manage in 15 minutes when he gets home.

See you tomorrow.

Stillchuckingit · 16/06/2011 20:20

Oh dear Bartlett - hope you and baby ds recover soon. Sleep well.

[Waves Cinders' dog off for the evening down the garden path. Is that lipstick and a diamante leash she's wearing? Shock]

On that basis PA I shall change my selection to oatmeal crackers!!

Waves to VienneseWhirl Scotchpancake Jamtart/Sachertorte

Serves Wine all round ...or perhaps it should be Brew to go with the pastries.

I'm cream-crackered I'm afraid, so am just going to post the steps and hit the hay ...

Friday will be the last day in Zone 3, the bathroom plus one other room.

Your mission for tomorrow will appear here once the Flylady site updates itself. Mopping the bathroom floor and putting out major hotspot in dc room.

For more detail (sneak peak) look here

Friday is a day for paper-work and other miscellaneous chores.

G'night all

SC should you be worrying about us and our babysteps? Your brain is clearly not affected, I hope you are taking it easy though.

Well I think I am a haranguing meringue.

However I did manage
done
craft activity with dd
joined dh to play Scrabble with dd after supper
assembled spinach cannelloni (not lasagne) for Dh which he ate [yay!)
cooked chicken and pasta for children (not sticking with my family meals am IBlush which they ate [yay!)
dw, swept floor, bedtimes, stories etc etc

Rain is so peaceful, and so final isn't it?

Just heard about Teacher's strike on 30th at our school.

swanriver · 16/06/2011 21:24

Miscellaneous chores, now that does sound ominous...

And I fed the lawn, perfect timing, as it is now pouring after brief lull.
SC I think the lawn is too extensive or too unruly for guinea pigs, a goat might just do it. Not quite big enough to play footie in though.

ColdHeartedBitch · 16/06/2011 21:25

I dont even have to look at that link to be able to tell you it is the set a bed time step. B B B But its friday night, its late training night. My bed time is set on a friday night to 2am, but then i dont get in til about 1am and it takes a bit to wind down. Will try to do better with the mid week bedtimes.

have just put ds in bed and will be soon to follow. 2 threads to check, fb message, email and one text to send.

Who - me watching it didnt personally start the riot, i'd like to point out. Although it did start a very heated debate. Grin Goodness it was fun though.

Right must head to bed very shortly. Must fly tomo too so hoping to venture out of the naughty corner but for today i will go hide there. Night

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/06/2011 21:51

Evening again,

A productive evening - with no packed lunches to make and no hurry to get the DCs to bed, plus the sun streaming into the kitchen (in between showers) I managed a whole load of kitchen mission type activities (wiped counters, polished appliances, mopped floor, cleaned inside of patio doors, shined sink).

So, the kitchen and bathroom are sparkling, the rest of the house is a tip Blush. Never mind.

SC - oh dear, you take care and get some rest, fingers crossed it all sorts itself out soon.

Swan - I am not very good at sticking to family meals either, the DCs had pasta tonight, we had deluxe gorgonzola burgers from M&S.

CHB - no, I didn't think you nipped over to Vancouver in the middle of the night! You have reminded me I need to email a couple of friends, they are getting neglected in favour of you lot Smile.

Night all.

ColdHeartedBitch · 16/06/2011 21:56

Fuck, actually to disorganised to sleep. need a list:

School run
Wash ds' training kit
pack ds' stuff for contact wkend
empty car
back many cakes for sat
put all stuff for the night's drop off and training into car
ds drop off
late training
mischief
Pack stuff for sat's training camp
Sleep

and if i get time i need to paint my nails I hate it but it is required for the camp. me and girly never really were good friends.

droitwichmummy · 16/06/2011 22:02

I'm still here, still with my hand in its cast - not funny anymore but at least I am allowed to drive now although I'm not going far. Been to doctor's twice this week - x-ray on my hip yesterday and blood tests today so hopefully they will find out why my hip hurts. Going back in 2 weeks for the results by which time the cast should be off.

Not getting anymore than very basic stuff done as my hand starts aching but we've had food and clean clothes - anything else they will have to do for themselvesGrin

BlueEyeshadow · 16/06/2011 22:20

Quite a productive and stress-free day here! Achieved: hoovering, mopping - ha, have already done half tomorrow's mission then - bathroom cleaning, laundry, read lots of books to DS2, made a meal which didn't involve fishfingers and which the boys ate, made a stir-fry for me and DH with snap peas from the garden (yum!), cleaned kitchen, collected ebay buggy board and done a fair amount of work... And no big rows either.

It's an INSET day on the 30th here, although officially it's a day off for the county show. Fortunately it's a day the boys are at the CM anyway.

Really hope you feel better soon SC and Bartlet and that the w/e goes well CHB.

Can't think of any local cakes or biscuits. How boring!

feetheart · 17/06/2011 06:19

Got to be Bedfordshire Clanger

SC - hope last night was better. Racing ticker sounds very unpleasant.

VERY busy day today as Dsis turns up tomorrow and I haven't got a lovely clean, decluttered house at all - remember I needed a plan at start of month due to said visit and DSis taking after OCD stepfather. I had a plan, I just didn't implement it as other things got in the way! So

  • Sort out various bits for School Assoc
  • Morning routine PROPERLY for first time this month Blush
  • Complete house overhaul
  • Work - statements as too many people owe us money Angry
  • Father's Day crafts at school
  • Sort Father's Day stuff and distribute to classes
  • Packed teas
  • DD to dancing
  • Collapse

Have a good day everyone.

FrauCinders · 17/06/2011 07:42

Heads for naughty corner

got up

no hot water

baked scones

then ds said he was ill...

walked the dog to MILs

as hunky electician is here

and did the food shopping all by eighty thirty...

keels over...

scattyspice · 17/06/2011 08:07

Morning all.

I'll be a Stottie Smile.

SC hope they can sort you out soon.
PA Hope the future planning went well (that would scare me actually).
feetheart can you not give OCD sis a duster and let her get on with it?

I have been abit Awol again. Extra voluntary activities have all come at once.

Had a great night on wed though with the friends of the park people we had a meeting, then went to the pub, then went bat hunting in the park with a park ranger! We found a few bats so are organising a bat walk in the autumn (when it gets dark earlier). DS very excited about this.

This evening I am sorting jumble for the school fair with the PTA so catch up when i can.

BlueEyeshadow · 17/06/2011 09:00

I have done the filing and tidied my desk. That way, I can keep my back to the disaster area that's the rest of the office/spare room...

A bat walk sounds lovely scatty. There were a few swooping about when I was coming home last week. :)

Hope your busy day goes well feetheart. Hands Brew to Cinders in the naughty corner.

I'd better go and put the washing out.

swanriver · 17/06/2011 09:27

Feetheart second the OCD sister having to lump it! They can say hurtful things though...I know the feeling. My sis is not OCD at all, but for some reason says critical things when she comes to stay, like my mum [reflex perhaps?) Just cook her lovely food, give her a tin of biscuits and some Evian by her bed and a nice vase of flowers to show you appreciate her, and that will go far (having been to stay in untidy people's houses, I always thought this made me feel thoroughly welcome ifysim) You have a lot to do today already from that list!

Very coldy this morning, though sore throat easing off.
done
spellings with neurotic ds2 (I've worked out trick is to make a ridiculous game out of the sounds, then he remembers rather than running off screaming Blush
Scaletrix supervision (sons playing nicely for once together Shock
swimming bag ready last night
school trip slips x 2

Cancelled SIL and baby due to sore throat, will go on Monday, however, now slightly at a loose end...will seek gainful employment. There is plenty of mess to deal with, but can I be bothered? DH told me to go back to bed, shall I take him at his word Confused or was it just a trick....

feetheart · 17/06/2011 10:28

Sister will be fine with whatever she encounters.
This time it is me that wants things to look better.
DSis hasn't been here for a while and I REALLY wanted house to be much further on by now but I really, really struggle with DH and his inability to declutter stuff and the fact that this is his childhood home and still feels like that a lot of the time.
Apologies to those who have been around a while, you will have heard this rant before.

Lots of 'reallys'!

I want to be baking, but 15mins is up so ..........hoovering now!

swanriver · 17/06/2011 11:29

Feet DH had a wake-up call this morning on the decluttering when Ds2 announced he wanted to sell most of his toys Shock as he needed the money for some new scaletrix. I think DH just couldn't get his head round the fact that he was now more attached to the children's stuff than the children Grin

Sounds like you need to ply DH with wine and cake and do some brainstorming. I really struggle to get my dh to agree to do brainstorming but sometimes I can back him into a corner and agree to some changes.

Done
quite a lot of tidying, it seems to be getting easier to rescue the rooms Shock There seems to be a "place" for most things now. Well, except my paperwork...
