Morning everyone,

I didn't know if pmpy would get on today and I didn't want the thread to run out of space for our chat housework musings so thought I would create another one.

Hope you don't mind pmpy!

Morning all,

I didn't get much flying done at the weekend but as we were out most of the time, it didn't bother me too much (for once). Had a lovely day yesterday - we went to the Technical Museum in Vienna in the morning (always a favourite with the DC) and then I took the DDs ice skating in the afternoon.

missjulie Hope you had a better night's sleep last night; so sorry to read about your DD's sleep problems. DD1 was an awful sleeper for about the first three months (she hardly slept, neither day nor night), so I khow what you must be going through.

longtime Hello and welcome. Smile I'm actually trying to trace an old friend of mine who used to live in Brussels as I was decluttering my letters at the weekend, discovered some from her and thought what a shame it was that we'd lost touch. She used to work at the English school in Brussels, but has left Belgium now I think.

PMPY Hope you're feeling a bit better this morning.

Back later with a list!

elliepac · 21/02/2011 05:57

Morning all. Back to work today so dd predictably chooses today to wake up at 5 when i will have no chance of getting any rest. Grrrrrr. To make it worse dh is not at work today and didnt even think of getti g up with her. Double grrrrrrrr.

Welcome longtime Smile.

Am off now to sulk into a very strong coffee Grin.

Poor ellie, hope the coffee helped, and that your day got better. Hope work goes ok.

Thanks linzer, last night was ok ish, she went to sleep 3.30am ish, i went to bed, she woke (typical!), but fell back to sleep shortly after! Phew!

Got up at 7.20am, as SO much to do today!

Done so far:
Rubbish out, me had breakfast, tidied kitchen, brushed floors, mopped kitchen and bathroom. Dry washing away, more into tumble dryer. Cat fed. Emails replied to.

That's it for now, going to finish my Brew, then get a move on!!!

Not going to way DD until about 10ish, that way i can get some stuff done before the visitors arrive around 11 ish. She needs the sleep anyway, if she stays asleep until then, she will have had just under 6 hours or so.

Hope everyone has a good day.

xx

missjulie · 21/02/2011 08:23

That was meant to say 'wake', not 'way'!!!
See that coffee hasn't kicked in yet!!

swanriver · 21/02/2011 09:12

Done
so far - 2 lunchboxes
and dcs all dressed and breakfasted
also dd has a friend round already Grin

Ellie
tomorrow he's on duty whether he goes to work or not - be determined
enjoy work! Just looking at all my old history books, and wondering whether to try and tackle "history" again - I was soo bad at it. Will start with Victorian politics.

swanriver · 21/02/2011 09:13

to explain, both my parents are historians (of a sort) so have loads of learned tomes which I have never read, but keep meaning to.

Toffeefudgecake · 21/02/2011 09:19

MissJ - sorry to hear you are going though the hell of sleep deprivation. I had it twice, but found it worse with DS1 who didn't sleep day or night, it seemed. As a newborn, DS2 would only sleep on my chest, so I had to sleep sitting up in bed - but at least I could get some sleep that way, even if it wasn't comfortable. I used to find a daytime nap could get me through it, but that depended on child sleeping and no other commitments, of course. It's a phase that will pass, but it doesn't feel like that at the time. Hope today goes all right. Your list is amazing, particularly considering your lack of sleep.

Ellie - sorry for your early awakening Sad. Hope work goes ok today.

Longtime - welcome. I usually try to do my morning routine before logging on to MN, otherwise, as you suspect, it can be a distraction. On the other hand, I do find posting a list and feeling that I need to tick things off is a good motivation.

Swan - that sounds like a lovely weekend. I agree with you re boys and dogs. Mine need regular exercise!

PMPY - thanks for the links. Hope you managed to get some rest last night. Any more Braxton Hicks or has it all gone quiet again?

Linzer - sounds like a lovely weekend Smile.

We are staying with my mum at the moment, so I am enjoying a welcome holiday from cooking and Flying. Today DH and I are finally going to see 'The King's Speech', leaving the boys with my mum and stepdad. Might even fit in some clothes shopping too.

Have a good day everyone.

LinzerTorte · 21/02/2011 10:01

Evening routine

ellie Grr at your DH not getting up with DD. Luckily DS (usually the only one to get up early here) insists that DH - and not me - gets up with him, so there are no discussions here. Grin

missjulie Hope DD slept long enough to let you get on with things. Have a lovely time with your visitors (is it your parents?). Smile

swan I have far too many books on my to-read pile (actually several shelves); nothing too learned though, so I have no excuses. And I really must make a start on my Italian course (also on the bookcase) before July.

Toffee Enjoy The King's Speech - am very Envy. I keep checking the website of the cinema near my ILs that shows films in their original version (I refuse to watch anything dubbed), but it only goes up to Thursday - I'm really hoping that it will still be on at the weekend. I'd also like to see I Want Sex Hmm (better known in the UK as Made in Dagenham) but it looks like it might be finishing on Wednesday (and I don't know if I could cope with the excitement of going to the cinema twice in one weekend).

swanriver · 21/02/2011 10:03

Dropped boys at sports club - have several new grey hairs dealing with scooters/goalie gloves/changing rooms etc Grin

Dd is off to a party later with her friend, so they are playing atm.

solistis
clear up lunchbox chaos
breakfast away
washing away
washing up away
unload dw
flowers in vase

then try to get them started on time machine project if that is not an impossible dream

take them to party - find glasses so I can drive

come home and read book/sew/tidy some more till 2.30pm then pick up girls
then pick up boys at 4.15, entertain dd's friend till 5.30 then tea for all

more detailed list later if I can come up with one

swanriver · 21/02/2011 10:04

Hello Toffee and Longtime
MissJ have a great day with gps, what sort of cake is it?

swanriver · 21/02/2011 10:10

Linzer LOL at the German translation of Made in Dagenham!!!!
Last time I read any learned tomes was when we went to Berlin a year and half ago, and the flat we were staying in was stuffed with interesting books about Weimar/causes of 2nd world war. And it felt so exciting to read them in BERLIN ifysim..

Are you going on holiday to Italy in July? Or hoping to add it to impressive translation range?

systemsaddict · 21/02/2011 10:13

Now I get it!

My boss and his wife came to see us at home on Sunday so of course (although they are lovely and wouldn't have expected anything special) we spent a long time (and it did take a long time) tidying the house. I was so fed up with the state of the place I removed nearly ALL the toys from the living room and put them in the kids' rooms. They now only have downstairs: one aquadraw mat, a box of duplo, one magnadoodle, some pens and paper and colouring books, and a plastic teaset. Anything that comes down will have to go back up at the end of the day.

You know what? As usual, they trashed the room playing ... but all I had to do was put a few bricks back in the box and put the cushions back on the sofa and it was tidy again!

This is decluttering, isn't it? Less stuff around = quicker to tidy up. Bit of an epiphany for me. I've only been trying to master this stuff for 12 years ...

swanriver · 21/02/2011 10:14

Dh also is the one to get up with kids here, a throwback from time I used to feed littlies in bed, and he took oldest down to breakfast (eight years ago [shock)

LinzerTorte · 21/02/2011 10:34

swan We're going on holiday to Italy in July - it will be the fifth year we've been and I come back with good intentions of learning Italian in time for our next visit every year. I bought an Italian course a couple of months ago, which is a start I suppose (but it's still unopened).

If we do get to see Made in Dagenham, we shall definitely have to give my ILs (and the DC) the English title. Proper UK title, I mean - We Want Sex is obviously also English. Grin

LongtimeinBrussels · 21/02/2011 10:35

Hmm, not such a good start. Had to go to the dentist straight after dropping dd off at school this morning and then on to the Thai Embassy for a visa for my ds but there was something wrong with the form and as I didn't have ds with me they couldn't process it so that was a wasted journey. Have only just got back so have done NOTHING in the house this morning. Added to that I'll have to go back off to the Thai Embassy this afternoon. Off to pick dd up from school now so I'll have to unload the dishwasher when she gets back!

LongtimeinBrussels · 21/02/2011 10:49

Can I cheat and do a list now?

Help dd go over the names of 49 European countries and their capitals for a Geography test this morning done
Go to dentist done
Go to Thai Embassy part 1 done
Unload and reload dishwasher done
Pick dd up from school
Get shopping
Vacuum in living room
Eat lunch and fold up washing while watching Desperate Housewives
Take dd back to school
Go to Thai Embassy part 2
Make a start on that HUGE pile of ironing
Finish making notes on the Vectors chapter.

After school will be taken up with helping a friend's dd with her maths and my dd with whatever she's got to learn for whatever test she's got tomorrow!

Oh and what about dinner? Dh is a great cook though so if he's back early enough and I'm still busy doing homeworky things he'll do it Grin.

Stillchuckingit · 21/02/2011 11:19

Hello lovely Flyers and welcome to LongtimeinBrussels

Very lazy half-term start to the day. DH sorted out DC's breakfast whilst I woke up. Since then DC have been creating Playmobil/puppy world in DD's bedroom. Are currently in the bath with Playmobil/puppy underwater diving world - I have just been in and added more hot water as they are showing no sign of getting out yet :)

This week is THE BIRTHDAY WEEK in our house - DD's is tomorrow (how did my baby get to be 8? Shock) and DH's is on Weds. So busy day trying to sort out cakes etc today.

  • Make yummy choc fudge icing for DD's cake - choc dolphin anyone?
  • Make DD's cake
  • Make pineapple sorbet as requested for DD's birthday
  • Wrap DD's presents
  • Wrap DH's presents - done
  • Book meal for DH and I on Weds
  • Make pizza dough for tomorrow

  • Sort out glass paints and glass bits
  • Cards etc for DD and DH
  • Tidy up downstairs

  • Dinner from freezer
  • Collapse in heap

There aren't enough hours in the day are there?

Off to fish wrinkly DC out of the bath :o

swanriver · 21/02/2011 12:13

Systems I posted but it disapparated, just to say, fantastic! Yes it does work!

Had a most annoying time, NOT FINDING MY GLASSES. have temporary pair on which keep falling off my nose, and aren't suitable for safe driving so had to taxi two little girls to cinema [sigh] and had felt most cross.
Vaguely remember spare ones might be in my makeup bag which I decluttered in master bedroom and hid somewhere...off to look

kind friend dropped me home from cinema which is in the middle of a warehouse industrial park so no tube or bus that near. Afternoon will be in tatters if I can't drive to pick them up !

swanriver · 21/02/2011 12:21

Found them Grin was just beginning to despair and go crosseyed. Invisibly tucked into a bookcase, on first floor, where I had obviously decided to take my clothes off last night Confused rather than next to my bed which is on second floor. Phew.
There is no spare pair, I must have taken them to Ireland.

swanriver · 21/02/2011 12:22

Feet I like the waterworld Smile

osella · 21/02/2011 12:36

osella · 21/02/2011 14:10

Can anyone tell me what area we are supposed to be concentrating on today?

LinzerTorte · 21/02/2011 14:45

Hi osella and welcome. Smile

We're focusing on the master bedroom this week (although you can just stick to the babysteps for the time being if you want). If you scroll back up to pushmepullyou's post at 22.10 yesterday, you'll find links to today's babystep and mission. You may want to concentrate on decluttering (ideally 15 minutes a day) before you start the missions, though.

The system is explained in more detail in pmpy's OP in part 1 of this thread here.
