Rainbow, Ds (14) is normally up early,in fact him and DDs are normally up before 9.30 most mornings. DD3 normally is the latest riser in this house, so when they choose to lie on, I let them because the peace is lovely. . But I do find in the last week before they are due to go back to school they all start to stay in bed. Its a pita trying to get them up then.

CC I think I'll stick to waking him between 10.30 and 11, unless I think he really needs more sleep or we need to get out early. I thinks its a shame for him to spend half his holidays in bed. I would love for my other DC to stay in bed beyond 7am!!

Maybe I am just of him being able to stay in bed till lunchtime!!

somethinganything · 28/07/2010 14:09

OK, I'm new - tell me how this works? You post your to dos and other people seeing them motivates you to actually do them? And without wishing to sound sarcastic does it work or do you find you lose time posting stuff?

I drastically need help keeping on top of things (see other thread re toddler/baby/housework etc) so wondering if this is for me.

PlumBumMum · 28/07/2010 14:19

something I find there are days when it really helps and there are dys mn distracts me,
sometimes I find it better to post my list the night before and then update at lunch time, but I would say my house is generally tidier and I have made some very good mn friends, but don't worry about having to keep up with our daily goings on!
But if something stays on a list for ages we can give you a little nudge

wastingaway · 28/07/2010 14:59

Hello somethinganything!

I've found it has really helped me since I started posting here. The house still isn't perfect, and I still hardly ever wash the pots at night, but it is soooo much better than it was.

As you can see there are different formats for lists, some of us have our ongoing lists here too, somedays I only post the few things I need to do next if I'm struggling, whatever works for you really.

Well, DS is definitely going in his buggy for a few days, just the walk to the supermarket took forever, stopping and starting, looking at stones and leaves, and then trying to go the wrong way on the way back, I thought my head was going to pop. So that has to qualify as the 'nature walk' I was hoping to do today as well.

Right, I need to crack on with afternoon jobs now!

  • coffee + check mail and online banking doing

Grot -

  • carpet - iron and kitchen roll the trodden in Babybel cases

  • sofa cover
  • tidy pantry

  • plan Christmas 2010, next - decide on gifts to make/buy, get cross-stitch framed - hand wash cross-stitch, Frame myself?
  • put mirror up above dressing table
  • buy external hard-drive
  • ring Dentist on Monday with code done choose best day to ?pop? in

foureleven · 28/07/2010 17:25

I know i'm probably missing a big in joke but are 'get up' 'get dressed' 'nap' 'lunch' etc really to do items...? The mind boggles.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/07/2010 17:26
wastingaway · 28/07/2010 17:47
Biscuit
foureleven · 28/07/2010 17:49

Twas the sigh for me Alibaba?

Sorry, I did say Im probably missing an in joke.

It's just that 99% of the stuff on peoples lists is stuff I thought you just did without thinking.

I'll be off.

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 17:49

I would say they were pretty essential really wouldn't you? I mean our local waitrose probably would rather not see me in my pants.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/07/2010 17:53

foureleven it was.

This thread is for those of us that struggle with the day-to-day. Ergo if I don't think about the basics they don't happen.

foureleven · 28/07/2010 17:57

Is that what a slattern is?

Alicetheinvisible · 28/07/2010 18:03

Foureleven - the thread was started by someone who was really struggling, so much so that getting out of bed, brushing her teeth and feeding her children was a huge achievement. Starting this thread helped her realise that actually if she managed these things she was not hopeless, she was getting stuff done, and seeing a list with things ticked off helped to motivate her and it has grown from there with other people joining who were also struggling. It may be that they are depressed, badly organised or struggling to fit in work with children etc, and by writing it all down they are getting into a routine which makes life easier. If you don't 'get it' then the thread obviously isn't for you

JustKeepSwimming · 28/07/2010 18:09

Thanks Alice, thats why i asked - I didnt get it. I get it now. Good luck everyone.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/07/2010 18:11

JKS - I was thinking the same, Alice said that so politely.

foureleven · 28/07/2010 18:12

There's no need to be like that Alibaba.

somethinganything · 28/07/2010 18:14

Quite. So, I do get it. And I definitely fall into the 'struggling to fit everything in' category so I'm going to have a crack at this slattern thing and see if it improves the state of my house/work/means my DDs eat something other than pasta or omelette every night... I shall be posting my first list this evening.

Thanks to plumbum and wastingaway for explaining all
