If you changed the blue on fireplace you could have a brick red or rust to add warmth, maybe a rug with toning colours too.

Turnitoffnonagain · 26/09/2024 12:54

Rust/terracotta would provide a good contrast to the blue. You could probably find a multi coloured rug to tie it all together, Dunelm has some with coloured squares.

Cherrycupcake24 · 26/09/2024 12:59

@Kastri I only painted it blue yesterday 😂🙈

I personally dislike rust/terracota and think it only works well in period properties, everywhere else it’s like the 90s called.

you have gone for very cold blue toned colours. So need to add some warmth. People often make that mistake.

i have far too many of the insect/animal heligan cushions from voyage, you need a few to warm up the sofa and kind of hide it. However with half a dozen scatter cushions and a great throw and a warm rug, you can work wonders. Don’t go matchy matchy, or mustard,

I don't like the blue and the grey. Too cold

If the blue has to stay, change the sofa/cover the sofa to/with a warmer colour

Add cushions accordingly

Cherrycupcake24 · 26/09/2024 13:16

Oh crap! I picked the blue thinking it was a warming colour 😩😩😩

Ooooo no!
.
I love that room, though. It looks very chic 😍

WetBandits · 26/09/2024 13:22

I’d go quite bold with that - mustard yellow. Can you find a giant throw that will cover the sofa, or those clingy sofa covers?

A nice mustard colour would look nice as would a bold pink.

The total opposite ,oh dear! Personally I think that particular blue is very hard to live with/ tie in with other colours.

As you asked I would change the blue to a sage green and go for some huge natural coloured throws and cover the sofa completely.

lessertenantry · 26/09/2024 13:32

The blue could be a little warmer as that’s a cool toned one and painting over in a warmer shade of blue would help, but I think you could still work in some warmth with jewel colours and textures. Like this pic. It does partly rely on the darker brick (or faux brick!) wall though.

How about a purple/ plum coloured throw to cover the sofa? Mix in some checked and woolly cushions?

White and fluffy

Bubblesallaround · 26/09/2024 13:36

I would get a big cream throw to cover the sofa. Then mustard and teal/bluey green cushions.

MissyB1 · 26/09/2024 13:37

As pp suggested gold colours would work (would tie in with your mirror frame), and look.for a rug with gold in too.

Staunchlystarling · 26/09/2024 13:40

I’m afraid you’ve picked a cold blue, Same as the sofa, which also has cold blue undertones, you need something with a warm undertone, hence why the room looks hard.

please don’t do mustard, it’s such a lazy suggestion, every single time someone posts grey or blue on here people go ooh mustard. 😂

AzureSheep · 26/09/2024 13:45

something like these peacock cushions from next would work - they’ve got some pink and red in them too, so you could pick some other cushions / throws / rugs with those colour which will warm it up a bit.

Also think about lampshades / table lamps and the type of light bulb you use.

Edit - clearly these aren’t peacocks, but it’s sort of peacock colours 🙈😂

I think she needs to move away from matchy matchy really, just adding more blue, a few cushions lots of warm colours, will brighten it up.

AltitudeCheck · 26/09/2024 14:07

I think the navy plus the white wall and the sofa are all smooth surfaces and not very cosy. I would go for throws or blankets in a really textured fabrics and and either natural warm brown shades, or vibrant jewel colours. I like both the looks in the pic attached.
