I have just changed my lounge grey carpet for a lovely oak floor but something just doesn’t look right . My sofas are mid charcoal leather and silver grey chenille curtains. Any suggestions/ help needed.

I think your rug is too small & should sit under the fit of your furniture. I think add a collection of floor plants together in a bunch, in different heights. Also, can you add a light coloured throw?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 13/01/2023 16:27

It is because your ( very lovely) wooden floor is a warm colour, and everything else is cold ( grey). So they don’t go together.

Maybe if you could replace the rug with one that had some grey in it but also some warm colours it would tie things together better? And a warmer paint colour on at least one wall ( chimney breasts take picking out well as they are already a feature).

As I can’t change the sofas do you think the grey curtains look too bland

It's the rug and the curtains. I would change the curtains for a cream or oatmeal, more like the pouffe.
The rug needs to be bigger and either with some colour or a neutral.
With the wooden floor natural textures would be good so maybe the curtains in linen, a jute rug, a chunky knitted throw for the sofa.

coralgeo · 13/01/2023 23:48

Also if you want to go the full hog I would swap the chrome curtain pole for wooden and change the metal wall hanging for something else - it's nice but silver and grey aren't your friend here

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 13/01/2023 23:52

Agree, it’s the rug. Too small and dull. The shape of the room make it difficult to get the rug right though as your fireplace is on an angle. A large round rug might fit, it needs to go under the sofas. Preferably one with colour/pattern/texture. Maybe something like this www.wayfair.co.uk/rugs/pdp/rosalind-wheeler-tekonsha-tufted-wool-greyivory-rug-lakm1308.html?piid=16541437

Yes. How about some patterned curtains in a nice warm colour?

KnickerlessParsons · 13/01/2023 23:55

And did you get your knitted pouffe from Aldi? 😁
I have a similar navy one.

Monty27 · 14/01/2023 05:47

The room needs an injection of colour. And the sofa needs aligning with the window

Holmfirthrita · 14/01/2023 08:31

Great ideas curtains for sure I have seen some called triangle in dunelm in either navy and neutral or ochre or neutral what do you think

Crikey I'd hate to post a photo of my lounge! I think it looks fine. Your flooring is lovely by the way.

RobertsRadio · 14/01/2023 12:05

The warmth of your (lovely) floor and the coolness of the grey furniture really don't work together. The one colour that does work and injects one tiny note of warmth is the gold/ochre coloured cushion. That is the sort of colour you need, to inject some warmth and will really work with the warm tones of your floor.

I would go with ochre or pumpkin colours and patterns for your curtains, cushions and rug. I would also consider new covers for your sofas in a neutral shade like a sand colour which will go beautifully with ochre or pumpkin colours in your curtains and cushions and with the honey tones in your floor.

MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard · 14/01/2023 12:13

If you put the loose cushions on the floor individually you'll see what the problem is - as pp's have said, it's warm vs cool. I think in the second pic you can also see that your fireplace is cool which is adding to the problem. Some new throws/cushions/curtains will warm things up - habitat has some gorgeous things for not much ££. I'd also change the curtain poles but I'd prioritise new rug and new cushions if you're not wanting to splash too much cash.

Holmfirthrita · 16/01/2023 11:33

I have changed my cushions what do you think?? I already had these does it improve the look I have removed the dark grey ones?

I would get rid of the rug and put throws on the sofas to cover up the grey. As PP have said, it’s the mix of warm and cool tones that makes it look off. A patterned rug would work.

Princesspollyyy · 16/01/2023 11:42

The grey sofas don't go with that flooring.

Holmfirthrita · 16/01/2023 12:22

Thanks for comments if I wanted brown leather sofas would that work better here with the floor

Not sure how you feel about pattered rugs, but I have this one and it has warm tones and grey in, so might pull it all together?
rug

Holmfirthrita · 16/01/2023 12:51

I really like that and funny enough I had looked at that as an option . There is a natural or one with ochre. Which one do you think will go . Also would the same size be ok in a patterned one?

OP posts:
Ohgodthepain · 16/01/2023 12:55

It looks much better with the new cushions , add the Dunelm rug and it will look lovely

Holmfirthrita · 16/01/2023 12:56

Natural or ochre dunelm rug ??? Love both but unsure of colour match
thx

Holmfirthrita · 16/01/2023 12:58

Also. Same size as I’ve got or larger as patterned don’t want to swamp the room

OP posts:
coralgeo · 16/01/2023 14:53

Much larger than you've currently got.

Yes brown leather sofas would work much better with the colour of flooring.

The grey just doesn't match the brown in any way shape or form, no matter what other accessories you style them with.
