I love colourful houses/ decor.

I spend a lot of time on Instagram looking for inspiration, and there are some amazing houses out there.

Anyone here a fan of the bold, colourful and eclectic?

Me too. I hate the grey/beige that's been in fashion for the last few years.

LemonViolet · 16/02/2022 19:23

Or worse……greige!!!!

What even IS that!

(Disclaimer……respect personal taste etc….if you like greige then you’d probably hate my style in return!)

dontcallmelen · 16/02/2022 19:46

Ooh enjoying all the colourful rooms
Yy Dave would be inclined to paint the whole room Red.
I’m toying with the idea of colour on the bathroom ceiling as it’s slanted & has two velux windows so it’s very bright space.

DavetheCat2001 · 16/02/2022 19:47

I've never considered painting ceilings in a different colour!

Actually I think my kitchen ceiling would be great in a different colour

CrappyXmasMarket · 16/02/2022 21:59

Apologies for the rubbish phone pics @DavetheCat2001 but you get the idea. Bonus shot of the study we decorated at the weekend, because I love those yellow velvet curtains Blush

Love that rainbow plant pot in your hall @DavetheCat2001 where did you get that from?

I just placed an order for some paint to collect tomorrow for projects Grin salmon pink and damson purple. I have 3 days off so hoping to get paint happy!

Purple is for my study. Walls are already orange, I want to do a paisley design in purple over the top of the orange along the wall behind my piano. Got the stencil at the ready.

Salmon pink I want to add to the living room. Slightly controversial ever-expanding palette in here, but it’s a big bright room and can take it. So far most walls are teal (Dulux turquoise copper) with some navy (sapphire splendour), I have some pattern wallpaper with a navy background to go at one end, and the same pattern with a salmon pink background at the other. Hence the thinking of introducing salmon pink to one wall! Why not hey? I feel kinda safe sharing on this thread, I got ripped to shreds on here at the weekend for posting a random abstract mural thing I’ve done in here in the same colours (deleted the thread as found the whole experience very unpleasant).

I have this cushion - they say peach I say salmon pink - it picks up the design from the wallpaper and shows the pink and teal work together IMHO!

Dulux nordic sky.

Got to confess, DH picks all the paint colours and I just go with it. The first room we did in the house was the sitting room. I really wasn't sure about the orange but he was convinced. Turned out well so he's in charge of all decor now!

dontcallmelen · 17/02/2022 09:50

So enjoying all the colours, especially on a grey morning.
LemonViolet the weekend project sounds fabulous , the cushion is definitely salmon.
Really sorry that you were upset by a previous thread💐
Here is my downstairs loo.

Hebee your house is beautiful. You have some stunning carpets / flooring- would be terrible for someone with visual impairment or dementia, but they are so gorgeous!

DavetheCat I love your first DC's bedroom. The rainbow rug and duvet cover especially, and the walls tie in with them really well.

hennybeans I'm in awe of how much work you've put in to your bed. And am jealous of the cushions.

I'm also blown away by the pictures of your mum's house. If I tried to decorate like that, it would just look a mess. But hers all works together so perfectly. Maybe because all the rainbow colours are the same type of... tones? If that's the word? ... and the forms of the patterns balance each other out. That is a real talent to put that all together- and presumably to make a lot of the quilts, art etc!
I think those rooms would probably be my partner's ideal decor, but neither of us would be able to achieve it.

Bergamotte · 18/02/2022 15:09

dontcallmelen strong colour on a slanted bathroom ceiling sounds great. I love attic rooms with funny-shaped ceilings. Even better when they have dormer windows so have an even funnier shape.

CrappyXmasMarket those curtains are glorious!

LemonViolet I saw your previous thread but was too tired to comment on it at the time. I absolutely ADORE your teal / dark turquoise walls. (wish I could paint my room that colour) and I really love how you had painted the skirting board the same. You had little bits of a rich purple which I thought went absolutely beautifully with the teal.
Do you have pictures of the wallpapers?

I like the sound of the sound of the paisley stencils. For some reason I really like paisley pattern, but can never find fabric with quite the right colour combinations.

DappledThings · 18/02/2022 20:01

Love all these photos.

White/magnolia/cream/griege walls are really depressing. I have an off-white hall/stairs/landing. It's the only bit of wall we have that isn't a proper colour and I'm trying to decide what to change it to.

White bedding is the worst.

Bloballbovish · 18/02/2022 20:06

Love this thread! Our house is tired looking now and I want to start giving it an overhaul. Nearly all the rooms have coloured walls, which was a departure from the magnolia and beige that dominated house decor when we first decorated. Hate the grey trend. We have red walls, terracotta, purple, yellow.

@DavetheCat2001 can I ask, in your kids playroom is the yellow shelving Kallax? And if so did you paint it yourself? I've got two boxes of KKallaxaready to assemble and I'm wondering whether to keep it white or not.

And general question - where the hell can I get coloured carpet?! We have hard floors downstairs but carpet upstairs and the local carpet shops are so dreary. When I did the kids rooms I found sparkling hot pink which is great for them but I'm not sure it'll work on the stairs. Everything else seems to be cream, grey or beige.

Project weekend day 1…..well I have a purple radiator and some skirting in my study that I am very pleased with: I like the purple and orange together. I’ve got through about half the paisley stencilling. It is more…..rustic looking than I expected!!! But I’ll do the whole thing and think about it. I think perhaps it will look like handmade block work printing style in the end. It really doesn’t matter if it looks a bit odd tbh, it’s only my room, and the whole room needs completely taking back and replastering at some point when we get to the upstairs part of doing up the house, which will be in a few years.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 18/02/2022 21:34

I love you all! We moved house a year and a half ago and the whole thing is magnolia (the seller obviously did the whole thing one colour to make it bland, it's a 1970s house so was probably more interesting over the years) but I can't for the life of me commit to anything. It was easier in our last two houses but I can't seem to find my way with this one. Hopefully this thread will help me find my colourful mojo!

dontcallmelen · 21/02/2022 10:53

@LemonViolet
How is the project coming along?

ColouringPencils · 21/02/2022 11:05

I love these rooms! Hennybeans' mum's house - wow!
@hennybeans do you know the paint colour of your orange wall behind the bed? @DavetheCat2001 do you know the paint colour of the green wall in your daughter's room?

Well. Didn’t quite finish all the stencilling 2 or 3 more panels to do. But I like it! Went a bit crazy on Saturday night and decided to replace the carpet too, it was old and stinky, so did that yesterday. Room feels lovely now! Was playing piano in there last night and it was lovely and cosy and felt peaceful to me, I know most people wouldn’t find orange and purple peaceful! It’s a bit small to photograph easily and still a mess (not “styled”) but here are some mid-progress shots from the weekend. The paisley pattern is too fiddly for a decent stencil in strong colours I think. Would be fine if you were sponging on a light-on-light, or did it painstakingly with a tiny brush. I did neither Grin.

Maybe I’ll photograph it properly when it’s all completely done. Waiting for one more piece of furniture as well tho and want to recover the piano stool.

Hennybeans, your quilt is beautiful and your mother's rooms are just so fantastic - I just spent 10 minutes looking at all the details. How lovely to be surrounded by beautiful things which you've made.

We're in the middle of moving to a fairly new house (every other place we've lived has been over a hundred years old), and it needs some colour. I love that it doesn't have dry rot, wet rot, woodworm, need rewiring, walls that need repointing and isn't covered in woodchip, but it does need some oomphing up and all the silver grey curtains replacing .....

strawberrysunrise · 21/02/2022 12:51

Ooh love that colour combo Lemon!

@ColouringPencils the colour is Arsenic by F&B. It looks more greeny in some lighrs and blueish in others.

I love it so much I have painted a few bits of furniture in it too as had wood paint from my daughters bedroom door to use up 💙💚

@Bloballbovish the Kallax is yellow.. I bought it on FB marketplace a while back.

I imagine you could paint it with acrylic paint though?

strawberrysunrise · 21/02/2022 13:01

Trying to add a few more pics of my DD's room as I just love it, but the app not playing ball.
