I love colourful houses/ decor.

I spend a lot of time on Instagram looking for inspiration, and there are some amazing houses out there.

Anyone here a fan of the bold, colourful and eclectic?

Sounds as though you are making real progress albeit maybe a bit slower than you would like, it’s not easy fitting it in around work & children though well done for what you have acheived.

Once upon a time in the previous century during my younger days ….

When I was walking around the Lake District and we stayed at a youth hostel / adventure centre, one of the staff told us about his purple house which was considered a local eyesore but was a listed building, which included it colour

This may be it, and there appears to have been a fire & rebuild. I suspect foul play

I love colour! We bought a new build last year - all our neighbours have the same grey kitchen, carpets and vertical blinds. Grey sofas, grey everything. My kitchen has pink and white toile de jouy curtains and blue velvet chairs. We have hand block printed curtains I made myself from fabric from Jaipur bought for a song on eBay in the living room, and a mosh mash of mid century furniture. Imagine a budget Oka - that's me!

Omfg those colourful rooms are bloody gorgeous. So uplifting and jolly. I really, really want to do something brave and colourful to mine now.

Same but I really struggle to style it nicely and it never looks quite right. I've decided to backpedal to mostly neutrals with a few bright rooms and just live vicariously through people with an actual sense of style 😂

Not sure if the cushion comment from @BowerOfBramble was aimed at me 😉😃

We have literally loads of cushions (downsized from a house double the size of this one and despite deep decluttering, still have way too many, lol!) - I think it was 70+ at the last count 🙄😂

Many are from Homesense/TK Maxx, some eBay finds and quite a lot were made by me from my huge stash of fabrics collected over the years 😁

My best cushion buy is an Anke Drechsel we found in Homesense. These can retail for £300+ 😮 They had one (silk velvet with magnolia blossom applique ❤️) for £155. I actually thought it was a typo as I wasn't aware of the brand at the time (2019?) and embarrassingly asked a member of staff if it was supposed to be £15 🤣 A few weeks later it was reduced to £76 (still a bit ridiculous, but I was in love!) so I treated myself!

I just keep looking and adding anything interesting that fits the vibe I'm going for...many are stored in our super king ottoman bed so I often shop my home when wanting to change things up a little....

Love your DC's rooms, @DavetheCat2001....I especially like the pink rabbit (?) on top of your DD's wardrobe! Need to get me one of those 😀

Haha that was a toy she was guven for her 1st birthday.. she used to sit on it 😍.

I love colour too. Here is my bedroom. The quilt is handsewn, took me a year. I also made the cushions and needlepoint ( although that's not finished in the photo).

@DavetheCat2001 Sophie Robinson has house of Hackney Artemis wallpaper in the pink colourway in her studio, it’s always the backdrop for her videos and features in the current tv series too.

There’s definitely room for more colour in that living room, imagine that gorgeous red wrapped around!

I can't be doing with the modern trends of sludgy coloured decor. Grey is the worst. But lots of muted browny green stuff is everywhere. I hate it.

I live in a house with purple bathrooms and an orange sitting room.

@hennybeans love that patchwork quilt! You're so clever..wish I could make something like that. I do have a few patchwork quilts, I have a thing for them!

I follow Sophie Robinson on Instagram and I love her house.

Strangely, I haven't really liked the houses she's done on her show very much. With the exception of the couple living near the river who choose a cobalt blue living with pink and yellow accents. That was stunning!

I suppose Sophie has to work to the taste of her clients when she decorates, whereas her house is her own taste which is what appeals to me.

@LemonViolet - do you think I should paint the other walls in my living room red too?

I have been toying with the idea for some time, and actually wish I'd been a bit more forceful with persuading OH at the time as I love the idea but he is worried it would look too dark and gloomy..I don't think it would, but it would be very in the face!

What do you think?

@Hebeee that green/purple/blue Persian style rug in your living room is a stunner - where did you get that from?

@DavetheCat2001 personally yes I think more red walls would be fab. There’s still a lot to white and wood in that room, I don’t think it would be overpowering at all.

Has anyone seen the Dulux 2022 “colour of the year” Bright Skies? It’s a really lovely blue. I’m thinking of doing our kitchen extension ceiling with it. DP is really unconvinced by the idea of ceilings being anything but white. But this one, the whole roof is going to be replaced in a few years so I think he doesn’t mind me experimenting so much! I want to pair it with a rich golden yellow on the walls. I think it will feel like the beach
