Carpet isn’t to my taste, sorry. Why not something more neutral?

Daisydoesnt · 29/01/2022 10:54

I like them both individually but not together I'm afraid. The paint colour has got too much grey in it to go with that fabric swatch, IMO. Can you find another plaid that is more muted, less vibrant?

Sexnotgender · 29/01/2022 10:55

Really not a fan of the carpet and I don’t think the paint goes at all. The carpet feels very old fashioned hotel style.

Chewbecca · 29/01/2022 10:55

I like the fact that it will tolerate spills etc.!

As well as people not wiping their feet properly on the way in, I have a terrible habit of spilling tea on the way upstairs but my current patterned carpet shows nothing. Am reluctant to go plain!

I think I knew they didn't work together - just needed to be told!

You don’t need to go plain. Just maybe more muted? Or change the paint colour.

Dumblebum · 29/01/2022 11:01

I like the paint colour but I don’t like the carpet, sorry.

Kshhuxnxk · 29/01/2022 11:01

I think you might get fed yo of the carpet quickly. I feel your pain though - we never take our shoes off, folks up and down all day including dogs. Still looks brand new 3 years in
and it's a simple plain brown carpet which doesn't sound very nice but actually looks nice and warm.

FrangipaniBlue · 29/01/2022 11:02

The ain't is the wrong tome of green it just clashes.

I'd go warmer like a cream colour with that carpet.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 29/01/2022 11:02

I like the carpet but wouldn't have tartan (or any pattern with horizontal or vertical lines) on stairs as I think it would be hard to see where the stair edges are.

FrangipaniBlue · 29/01/2022 11:04

@Hollyhocksarenotmessy

I like the carpet but wouldn't have tartan (or any pattern with horizontal or vertical lines) on stairs as I think it would be hard to see where the stair edges are.
and if the stairs aren't quite level the lines in the tartan will sit wonky!

Our stairs are open plan in our living room so we put tartan in the main space then chose a plain carpet in the same colour as one of the tartan squares to go on the stairs and along the landing.

Cup with a lid??

A carpet like this would hide a lot and go much better with a muted green paint

PurplePikachu · 29/01/2022 11:12

Having stripes or checks on stairs is a really bad idea, you will trip! It’s much harder to see where the stair edges are.

Also I think that carpet is too loud.

Chewbecca · 29/01/2022 11:13

Minipie - which carpet did you link to pls? Doesn't go to a specific carpet. I like a brintons.

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 29/01/2022 11:16

We have stripes on the stairs now! I am prone to tripping up but never have on the stairs so that's surprising.

I could do a cup with a lid but don't trust everyone to be tidy.

This carpet is DH's favourite. Probably because it looks like an old fashioned hotel 😁

The house is 1920s but kind of cottage-y style, we're looking for more classic than current.

minipie · 29/01/2022 11:27

It was a brintons - will see if I can find the name

minipie · 29/01/2022 11:30

It’s called Royal Trellis, comes in Willow Green or Hunter Green (or various other colours). Just a small diamond pattern.

statetrooperstacey · 29/01/2022 11:48

I like the carpet op, I think it looks like Labrador’s and open fires, and wellies lined up in the hallway, and sounds like a ticking clock with a low radio playing behind a door . Does that sound like your vibe? And yes it will hide everything.

statetrooperstacey · 29/01/2022 11:50

How about a pink tone ?

Thiswayorthatway · 29/01/2022 11:53

Would the carpet work as a runner on the stairs with natural wood bannister?

Katshouldnotswim · 29/01/2022 11:53

The green really jarrs for me, it’s not quite right. There are a million combinations of F&B paint if you want to go with them I can think and they will suit it much better ( need to find my chart really )

Carpet will look fab if as a our that’s your style. A friend has a similar in the blue grey and it looks fab with natural wood and slate.

Most people on here are into grey and neutrals - don’t let any comment out you off, it will look fab ( if the green is right )

Stookeen · 29/01/2022 11:55

What about painting the stairs and having a striped runner?

We had this one in our old house, and painted the stairs grey.

Viviennemary · 29/01/2022 11:59

Its dire. It just doesnt go at all. Not at all keen on the carpet but if you like it fair enough. But not with that paint colour. I do like the paint colour though.

positivevibesonly22 · 29/01/2022 11:59

I think I'd go for something from this palette. I think that that carpet in the kind of house you have described will look nice too. Definitely neutral paint to pick out the line element of the carpet though I reckon 🤔

Chewbecca · 29/01/2022 12:33

Yes! We have no labs or wellies but that IS the vibe. Not plain or grey or neutral we want it to be warm, friendly, comfortable.

Runner = too much hard work, just want to get the paint done & replace carpet. And I fear it would be harder to keep clean.

I need to find the paint colour that looks best with the carpet. Rest of house is entirely f&B so would rather stick to them.

Suggestions welcome!
