Your Weight should be included in baggage allowance - Discuss!

I have heard it mentioned that the cost of air fairs has gone up due to the general overall increase in weight of passengers!

Now, I know that if you want to take an extra bag on board you pay a fortune for the additional fuel reqd etc, so do you think it fair that a skinny person gets the same baggage allowance as a larger one? Would you be prepared to get on the scales with your luggage if it meant the average sized people could carry more luggage?

I am NOT being Size-ist, just would like thoughts.

(I will not get into the argument of if you spill over one seat so someone cannot sit next to you, should you pay for 2)

we have 3 seats so i will let dd age 8 sit next to me

I have never flown (and have no intention of doing so either) but have to say that if I did and if I had an enormous amount of luggage, I would be pi$$ed off if they tried to charge me for excess (I weigh 7st) purely on principle.

Don't think there should be any sort of change to the way they charge as long as they are willing to be flexible with the rules when someone argumentative like me comes along who refuses to pay.

Sure Gwenick, but I was meaning to make a simile between petite sizes and bigger sizes. I'm tall, my sister is petite, if we pack the same things for the same number of days I end up with a bigger bag.

Still don't understand why people 'need' to take excessive amount of luggage [frown emoticon] especially on 2 or 3 week holidays!

We have to drive so DH can bring back excessive amount of French Wine in the boot. For that reason we are not allowed excess baggage in the boot!

you forget - I've seen it - knotted hanky and a stick should suffice

I have an idea, if our weight should be included as part of the luggage, why not fly cargo? we may end up travelling for less money!
