Do you return to the same holiday destination every year?

Does anyone else have one holiday destination they keep going back to?

I’m just wondering if this is quite common, or if we’re a bit unusual.

It’s not even that I think it’s the most beautiful or exciting place in the world. It’s more that we know it well, we enjoy it, and there’s something really comforting about going somewhere familiar. You know where everything is, you know which restaurants you like, you don’t spend the first few days getting your bearings, and it just feels easy.

Part of me wonders if we should be seeing more of the world instead of going back to the same place, but then I think holidays are meant to be relaxing and enjoyable, and familiarity is part of that for us.

Does anyone else have a place they return to year after year? Or are you the complete opposite and would never go to the same place twice?

Our place is Grenada.

We went on one of those cheap Sun holidays to Kessingland in Suffolk near Southwold when ds was a toddler & fell in love with both the holiday park & Southwold. We ended up going 3 times in 2 years taking my parents once & in laws another time, we stayed in the same caravan as it was set up perfectly for a toddler & the beach at Southwold was great for building sandcastles & paddling in the surf. I loved being able to wander around the shops that were set up for all the well off Londoners who visited, it was wall to wall Boden.

The other place I have returned to many times is Filey, it's my happy place, I was taken there for my first holiday aged 2 & have had so many holidays there since, I know the place like the back of my hand, the best places to eat & drink, it's not over commercialised with loads of seaside tat shops & amusement arcades & has hardly changed from when I went age 2 58 years ago. I have promised ds & dsil that all being well I am taking them there next summer, I have found the most amazing luxury clifftop bungalow with a deck that has the most wonderful views over the bay & it's own steps down to the beach.

We go back to CenterParcs Woburn every year. Like you we love the familiarity of it. We can take the dog, it’s wheelchair accessible, the staff are nice etc. we are lucky though as we also manage a holiday abroad each year as well. I think there is value in seeing more of the world than just one place BUT it depends how you feel about travel, how stressed it makes you etc. As a wheelchair user, if my choice was a flight to get abroad then I’m not going.

Am I the only one who does think the OP means Spain and not the Caribbean? Not that they've come back but.....

I thought Caribbean, my neighbours love it there and have been at least three times since I’ve known them.

Ooh, enjoy!

We never holiday in the same place twice. The only exceptions have been Cuba, Marbella and We visit Bruges once a year. Out main summer family holiday we go somewhere different every year

Interesting, Cuba was lovely but one place I wouldn't ever return.

Shinyhappyapple · 08/08/2026 12:40

We have places we have returned to many times over, but it’s the general area rather than the same hotel as we always book rentals. We frequently go to the South of Spain in the winter, we used to do a week over the New Year every other year when DS was younger, DH and I now go for a longer time in February, sometimes it will be a new area and we’ll be visiting different places, other times it’s just an opportunity to get a bit of out of season sunshine.

Then we normally do a week in September to somewhere different but sunny eg Portugal, Italy, a city break and a few UK short breaks.

The extra holidays have only been in the last few years though.

See, it's 100% on my return to list but to do the east this time as we toured central and west last trip.

Ive friends who returned to Las Vegas after going about 15 years before to 'see how it had changed'. I found that an odd trip to redo in all honesty as they're not gamblers, drinkers or interested in big hotels etc and not particularly well travelled that they've seen a lot of the world.

I think she means the Caribbean as I assume it’s somewhere with beaches where they go to relax (not that I’ve ever been there). Granada in Spain is a city, a beautiful city certainly but I think if someone enjoys the history and culture of Granada, Spain, they would want explore other historical cities whereas you could maybe have the view that one tropical beach looks like another. (Apologies to Grenada if I’m misrepresenting it!)

I was always a 'never return' type of person (apart from Venice but only for short breaks) but my husband brought with him.into our relationship a time share in Gran Canaria (I wasnt a huge canaries fan either) however, having been there every year for the past 4 or 5 years I have to admit I love going back to 'our apartment' and not spending the first part of the holiday trying to suss where everything is and working out decent places to eat etc. We already know and its just straight into relax mode. I love it. I wouldnt want it to be our only holiday and we do a few city breaks or another longer holiday each year but as our total down time week its the best!

Edited

Now that would suit me as it would be my ‘somewhere to go in the winter just to see some sun’ break.

Shinyhappyapple · 08/08/2026 13:07

As I think of it, we visited Butlins at Minehead for 6 years running when DS was in Primary school. We did other places too but for a UK break it was great to know that there was always something to do in the rain.

We went to the same place in Cirnwall every summer because it ticked all our boxes and our girls loved it but we would go to different places other weeks in the year. Some were a hit, others were a miss. I do think that familiarity can be very reassuring - our children were adopted and anxious about trying new places.

Girlintheframe · 06/08/2026 10:44

No I would never want to return to the same place twice when there is so much of the world to see.

Exactly this! I can see why some people might do it but it sounds very boring to me. If I had infinite time and money then I can see that having a holiday home in a beautiful part of the world would be idyllic but unfortunately work and financial constraints mean we can only do one 'big' holiday a year and I wouldn't dream of going somewhere I'd already been.

lebin · 09/08/2026 08:23

I’ve never been to the same place twice. I have places I want to go back to, either because I loved it so much the first time or because I didn’t get to do everything I wanted to but there are also so many new places I want to visit too! If I had a bigger budget I’d probably have a regular holiday spot like you and a few holidays to new places every year - that would be the dream!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 09/08/2026 08:26

I go to a uk caravan park I like most years but when going abroad will always go somewhere different to explore.

Despite living in Cornwall we decamp to another place in Cornwall for a couple of weeks ever year. Family tradition and we work it around work and things. But we know the area well and it’s dog friendly beaches and where the pubs are. And because of how beaches and tides work it is different every year. It is also my happy place …

I know someone who owns a touring caravan park and he told me that a surprising number of people who stay there live less than ten miles away. Some come from the next village.

Oh 100% !! the first caravan my parents owned never left the county under their ownership. They just liked pitching up a few miles down the road and not having to worry about getting home and spending the day exploring somewhere new.

mishmashmess · 15/08/2026 14:37

We used to go to Soller and Deia in Mallorca a lot, but it has got so much more crowded in recent years that we won't be going again. There are a lot of anti-tourist protests there and I can understand why. So we're staying away so we're not part of the problem.
