Do you return to the same holiday destination every year?

Does anyone else have one holiday destination they keep going back to?

I’m just wondering if this is quite common, or if we’re a bit unusual.

It’s not even that I think it’s the most beautiful or exciting place in the world. It’s more that we know it well, we enjoy it, and there’s something really comforting about going somewhere familiar. You know where everything is, you know which restaurants you like, you don’t spend the first few days getting your bearings, and it just feels easy.

Part of me wonders if we should be seeing more of the world instead of going back to the same place, but then I think holidays are meant to be relaxing and enjoyable, and familiarity is part of that for us.

Does anyone else have a place they return to year after year? Or are you the complete opposite and would never go to the same place twice?

Our place is Grenada.

We did for thirteen years!! It simply ticked every box and the kids loved going back each year.

We generally do to different places to learn and enjoy a new place each time. Though my asd child loves the same so he would love going to same place every year. Occasionally we have been back to places like Venice, 3 times Lapland twice, in summer and winter, Madeira twice but generally not. We do similar themed holidays though like wildlife or swimming / snorkelling based.

We have a holiday home in France and go for a couple of weeks each year with all 3 late teens. We also have 3 separate week long holidays for just me and DH and 2 of these will be cruises somewhere. The other 1 is often Cyprus or Spain AI. None of our holidays cost a fortune but I won't cook on holiday and we eat out each day.

Are you autistic? Sounds like you like routine and familiarity.

I have personally never been interested in that. I want to see a very wide range of locations and can’t imagine anything worse than going to one place twice. It would feel like a waste to me. But each to their own and that’s ok.

As I've got older I gravitate to one place each year but also go to at least one other place - sometimes it's somewhere new, sometimes somewhere I've visited years before and enjoyed.

I don't think going to the same place and hotel is that unusual. Each to their own.

BestIsWest · 06/08/2026 20:42

There’s something really nice about liking a place so much that you want to go back and see more of it. There have been a few places we’ve loved over the years and have returned to over and over. We went on a short break to Amsterdam a few years ago and something clicked with us and we’ve been back to the Netherlands four or five times now.

MyDuvetDay · 06/08/2026 20:42

Yes - our holiday home

Huskysledging · 06/08/2026 20:45

We used to be go different. Now we have decided to alternate in summer one year Scotland and the following year Norway & Iceland. In the winter we alternate when abroad in the summer in winter we go Norfolk, or Dorset one year and the following year somewhere warmer abroad which changes just a week in the sun.

cuckoolodger · 06/08/2026 20:49

I love going to new places and trying new itineraries but we tend to go back to Corfu every year or two . It’s just an easy, affordable holiday and we love it as it has everything we need. We have been 8 times and have friends there.

bigfatmeerkat · 06/08/2026 20:57

I used to be in the “the world is huge, I want to see it all” camp, but after many holidays being ill for the first 3 days due to unfiltered water/ ice cubes i tend to stick to places i am relatively sure ill be ok. I’ve been to a few hotels where there are groups of 60+ yr old folks that come back year after year and are greeted like old friends, so can understand why they do it

PinkTonic · 06/08/2026 20:57

We go somewhere new every year but we also have a place we return to annually as well.

Gosh, why don’t you go places with a filtration system for the ice and drink bottled water? Wouldn’t you do that after rhe finest time you were ill?

Every summee for the past several years we have spent 5 days on on island, with a group of people we largely only see there (some exceptions)
It is simple accommodation, devices strictly banned, outdoors type of holiday.
We all just swim, read, kayak, go for walks, paint, chat, play card or board games. There are dinner crews so you cook dinner once during the stay for the whole group. Children roam around in groups, teenagers do their own things
It is just incredibly relaxing. I love the easy predictable nature. You can spend the afternoon on a kayak or read under the tree or have a deep conversation with someone or spend days sleeping.
It is not our only holiday, but we all enjoy it as much as some much more luxurious or exciting holidays

Where is this? Is sounds like heaven

Twoweeksinaugust · 06/08/2026 21:38

We go back to the same place every year, my dc are still very young, we like the resort, it feels safe, holidays are so bloody stressful anyway with young children, we try a different hotel every year based on what we have seen and fancied the year before.
We do supplement this with UK breaks to different places, Euro Disney etc, but for the main summer holiday it's always Mallorca. We'll branch out a bit once dc are older, but not yet.

Mrscharlieeeee · 06/08/2026 21:40

Yes, Orlando. Generally October half term so we’re there for Halloween but we’ll go somewhere different in summer.

Pericombobulations · 06/08/2026 21:58

Yes, because I love the place (Cornwall - I'm that boring). We know the area well, where everything is, but also because its relaxing. I never feel we HAVE to go somewhere as we are likely to have been before and can just relax and take each day as it comes. If we want a lazy day, we have it, if we want to explore further we do.

I have explored a lot of the UK, but there are still areas within the UK to explore further. There are places abroad on my bucket list but suspect I will never get there now (am now disabled). So be it. I hear from friends the downsides (and upsides) of travelling abroad and for the most part, it doesnt make me jealous, just confirms I do what makes me happy, and DH doesnt care as long as it has WiFi.

I suspect a lot of the travellers havent gone round much of the UK so they miss the value of it. But each to their own, do what makes you and the people you travel with happy. Thats the only thing that really matters. My dad saw most of the world when he was in the RAF, and yet when he retired, all he wanted to do was visit Cornwall and Scotland.

Smartiepants79 · 06/08/2026 22:03

We have a place we have holidayed in regularly. Places we have been to maybe twice and then lots of new places. This only happens as we are often lucky enough to go away more than once a year and some of it is shared holidays with family and in the uk.

PenandPip · 06/08/2026 11:07

We have a home in Spain and I spend 6 weeks there in the summer. Kids are teenagers and the last two years they have came over with their Dad for two to three weeks. I love my home in Spain, I know everywhere and it's a home from home but with the sun and a pool.

We always go to Lake Como for Easter and Liverpool in January. October we tend to try somewhere different.

I like the familiarity of our regular destinations and then enjoy something different once a year for a week.

I wasn’t expecting Liverpool in January! I’m just being nosy but what takes you to Liverpool every January? Must be family?

NormasArse · 06/08/2026 22:13

We have two places that we go for last minute breaks- one of them is great for hiking in winter (temperate climate), and the other is a short flight and we just enjoy it for long weekends. We also have a caravan in the uk, so spend a lot of time in that area.

We do like to visit somewhere new each year too though.

PHB65 · 06/08/2026 22:18

We go to Mallorca twice a year, same town, same hotel, we love it. We know the restaurants ( all inclusive is my idea of hell ), we know which are good which are not so good, who’s better for fish, who’s better for (insert food of choice).
We love the beach, the seas amazing.
we do have other places we want to visit but they’ll be extras not instead of, especially America, after the orange shitgibbon has gone, also Iceland.

FredaMountfitchet · 06/08/2026 22:19

There is a place we visit every year for a week . We do have other holidays but this one is always arranged first .
It’s somewhere we love and probably visited around 20 times .

LemonSnail · 06/08/2026 22:40

I’ve been to almost 70 countries but have been to Greece, Turkey and Italy about 15 times each and Florida 8 times.

They do and I do drink bottled water. But there is salad washed in unfiltered water, glasses washed in the same water…I’d love to trust the hotel to use filtered water for everything but I know that doesn’t always happen. My husband is usually fine so I guess we all react differently

BendyDickCumbInMySnatch · 06/08/2026 22:49

Yes pretty much every year since I was 5 years old we go to Ibiza I'm now 55

Ordonot · 06/08/2026 22:56

Never the same place twice
