How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.

Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

About €20k this year

£1600 in August for a week in Portugal. Incl flights (Ryanair) and hotel on a b&b board. 2 x adults

Booked with tui and got a blue light discount and got some money off as went into an actual travel agent shop and didn’t book online.

3 nights (4 long days) in Ibiza. All inclusive 3 star hotel. Just me and 1 child. £880.

Approximately £5,000 for 2 in a 4* hotel half board in Lake Garda at the end of June/beginning July. This included around £1500 spending, flights, private transfers to the hotel and parking at the airport.

Famiky of 2 adults 2 teens.

9 days lake garda in August. About £900 on flights, £450 on car hire but petrol will be more, call it £500, then €2500 on a holiday park. Plus food and day trips. About £5k at least .

BA companion voucher and Avios points used toward PE flights which brought the cost down a lot.

It did feel quite cheap, the Canaries were definitely the cheapest options coming up. But it does the job so that the children get to swim everyday and go out for dinner every night. They love a week doing that as well as a week hiking and biking (probably in the rain) in the uk.

Mad money for camping, yes! Although if it's 5 star....🤔then maybe it's worth it?

£1100 for 4 nights in an apartment in Austrian alps, includes a summer card so public transport and loads of activities will have no cost.

flights for 3 were £58 plus some avios
then whatever for food and spending - so I’m budgeting about £2k all in to include cattery costs.

Last year was £13k all in going to SE Asia so a bit less!

My sister went to a 10k all inclusive for a family member’s wedding last year. The main difference she said was the food. There were 6 different restaurants and all were included. Not the buffet is included and you pay extra for à la carte. All drinks including champagne were included (they were there for a wedding so much champagne was drunk). The other thing was that all rooms were suites and there were fewer guests for the size of hotel so the pool was never overcrowded and there were enough loungers for everyone. The service was brilliant and everything was immaculate. Also there were no supplements for the hotel run activities such as paddle boarding. She said she wouldn’t do it every year but for a special occasion it was fantastic.

I’ve been before during peak times (April cherry blossom season) so curious as well how August will be - a lot of message boards say it will be too hot. But we’re going to go to Hokkaido in the north where it should be cooler. Japan is such a cheap destination when you’re there (and to be honest flights can be too - £550 possible if you go via China) - a katsu curry and drink is under £5! Hotels in August are cheaper too.

£250 camp site ,no idea on food spends

One week on beach in flat on complex with pool with car in Spain for free. Second week push the boat out ending up being £4k. Plus flights and spending £6k? Don’t know how people get these cheap deals I would worry about ending up in a grim hotel. Everytime we’ve stayed somewhere cheap it’s been pretty ropey.

Wow, this gives me food for thought. I always thought that Japan would be crazy money. Like Norway or Iceland for eating out. We tend to do long haul and budget around £6k for flights and accommodation. And we usually go to SE Asia so meals and taxis are cheaper than heading west. I think Japan will be joining Sri Lanka on the shortlist for next summer.

The service is next level. You barely have to make eye contact with staff around the pool and they’re asking what you would like

we've never not got 4 sun beds together by a pool or on the beach, regardless of the time of day

nothing is too much trouble. We’ve had poorly kids when we’ve been away and staff have driven us to the local medical centre, provided extra bedding/taken away vomit covered sheets within 30 mins of calling reception. They follow up daily and ask if they can do anything else. They will also provide food from a different restaurant to the one you’re in if you request it

all staff are excellent with the children. You’re not made to feel like they should be quiet in the à la carte restaurants and they have separate areas for families or adults only.

the only extras to pay for are boat hire, babysitters and spa treatments

A week camping ~ £250 for 2 adults plus a bit of spending money for food.

Also doing another trip in this country - a week in a cottage for £900, for 3 adults. Tickets for shows ~ £160 so far. Then will mostly self cater but will eat out a bit.
