How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

I used to think the same, that Japan is expensive but it’s really not 🙂 I go to SE Asia a lot too and I would say food is actually similar price, but better overall quality in Japan. Also, tipping is not expected at all. Taxis more expensive though, but public transport is great and runs bang on time.

Best thing I would say though is just how safe and scam-free it is - I’ve travelled a lot and it’s so refreshing to not have to be on your toes at all!

I think I just found the cheapest travel agency from the UK to go on a summer vacation.

I use overnight buses to get there and back and stay in a hostel, I'm doing it again at the end of August and cant wait.

Although to be fair we are in Scotland and probably get better value for our money as our school holidays are much earlier.

It’s IKOS, the one day car hire is the clue

it is a level above absolutely anywhere I have ever stayed. We have been twice and it’s a whole other experience, it’s a small fortune but if you can afford it it is worth every single penny twice over

Add the wine cellar where there’s a choice of thousands of wines and if they don’t have it on the menu they’ll find it

Well yes, it depends when you go. We are going tomorrow so that bumps the price up, as does being Deluxe there.

I’d love to go to an Ikos, I very much doubt any £5k holiday compares to an Ikos from what I’ve read!

We’ve almost been priced out by their yearly increase but decided to go for Odisia as our 40th birthday treat.

I can highly recommend Maxx Royal Belek. It’s of a similar standard, great for the kids, à la carte restaurants included and a small waterpark on site

Two adults to France for 10 days - 6 in Toulouse and 4 in Sete.

We did Cyprus all incl 4 adults in April £4000 for 7 nights. Beautiful 5* hotel.
10 nights all incl 2 adults in Turkey end of August £3,500.

£530 each - 11 nights, bed and breakfast, 3* adults only hotel in Lanzarote.
Booked as a package with Jet2, so it's included flights, baggage and transfers.
We're here now, go home on Monday.

Last year we did AI pretty nice in Cyprus, 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 teens - £7k for a week in May. It was absolutely beautiful but £7k. June, Lanzarote, 5 nights for 2 adults and 2 kids, £800 plus maybe another £800 in spends in total. SC, cheap as chips, and the kids had a far better time. They felt more relaxed, ate the Brits abroad grub, and the snob in me was mollified by decent tapas and very gorgeous views.

So we are decided until the little ones are older it will be Lanzagrotty all round. No point chucking Ks at it til they appreciate it more.

We aren’t going away this year as have a lot of other things on during the summer hols. Last year we went to the Caribbean, and paid £7000ish for 10 days in a remote villa with private pool overlooking an unspoilt beach. That £7k included all flights, ferries, luxury hire car, villa, food and drink (we ate out every other day for lunch I would estimate), and spending money. When we go skiing each year it is a similar cost, approx £7-8k for 5 of us.

Croatia, middle of august, 9 nights, 2 adults and 2 older teens. Private villa with pool. Approx £3k including flights. Probably spend another £2k whilst there. Booked it yonks ago - can’t wait!

2 adults. Adult only, dry nice beach resort for one week, bed and breakfast with own room pool, 3.5k, spending money about £1500.

Booked during Black Friday sales last year for 14 nights in Antigua for 3 adults and 1 16 yr old - all inclusive - early July. Cost was £6000.
