How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

Ours was £400 for flights, £2500 for accommodations (3 separate places including a 5 star AI resort for 4 days at the end), and £1000 spending money. This was in Madeira and we loved it. Spent a bit more than usual as it was our 10 year anniversary since we started dating 😊.

Next year will be a camping holiday & center parcs!

3K AI Cancun Mexico to celebrate my 60th and my DD 40th. I took £1K for spends but didn’t need it as AI was fabulous- usual buffet but also separate AI restaurants Italian, Mexican and Sushi. It was a luxury holiday for just the two of us for a week it was bliss

We’ve got a week in a remote Welsh cottage booked for £2800. But I paid for it a year ago, therefore it is free. We will eat out a bit and do some excursions so hopefully spend less that £1k on that

Cyprus 10 nights 4* hotel AI 2 adults 2 children £4600 (was across May half term)

We booked a very last minute holiday due to having a baby a few weeks ago and waiting until his passport arrives . Family of 6 , just booked a private Vila in the Algarve 12 days £2400 plus £1600 transport plus spending money I think about £2000 as it’s cheap to eat out in Portugal .

Cornwall for a week, £3k. Greece for a week £4K and then a festival at £1.5k. Soon mounts up! And of course have got to pay for food and activities in Cornwall and food at the festival.

Not everyone is affected by the cost of living crisis, and why should they live like they are?

Four star AI in Turkey with water park, two adults, one three year old - £1500 for everything.
Amazed by the prices of some of these holidays.

Without totally derailing the thread how is self catering in an exotic location? Are the supermarkets easy to navigate? I'm going to go to sri lanka but was only considering hotels till i saw this!

3.5k inc flights for 2 adults 2 kids, all inclusive, 4 star in Paphos for a week. Fly 1st August from Manchester.

3 weeks. Kenya. Family of 4. Visiting friends so minimal outgoings when we’re there. Flights were just shy of £10k (premium economy). Probably £12k all in.

Greysky, we always made sure our Airbnbs were near to restaurants and cafes. It just needs a bit of research on Google Maps, Trip Advisor and now AI. We'd get breakfast from a local supermarket (bread, cereals, fruit) and lunch and dinner would be from local places. Globalisation has meant that you can always get a flat white and a sourdough loaf in any country now. :) My kids had a Happy Meal in Costa Rica last year.

Re Sri Lanka, I'm not sure yet as I need to start researching! I'm sure there'll be supermarkets and amazing local food for very reasonable prices.

Oh, and I'd say that supermarkets are very easy to navigate. The international language of tourism is English and unless you go off the beaten track most people are used to clueless tourists (aka me).

1500 pounds for a week in June 4* AI for 2 adults and toddler and spent very little when we were there.

Interesting, I’m just back from skiathos and found that restaurant prices where a lot cheaper than our last holiday in Tenerife.. much nicer too.

Around £2250 door to door. Family of four, 2.5 weeks' doing mainly outdoors stuff (lots of hiking, swimming and paddleboarding), Highlands and Islands. Covers fuel, accommodation (camping, motels en route), meals at camp and out, various paid-for activities and some spending money for the kids.

Sorry, one more thing. I just Googled and there are lots of Airbnbs in Sri Lanka with many bijou cafes posting all their fancy dishes on Insta. 😄

£4150 for five of us, two adults and three teens, for a 7 night package hol to a lovely hotel in the Canaries, room and breakfast. Probably £1800 spending money, so £6k all in.

We're going to Normandy early October for 9 nights, it's about 800 euro for the ferry and the same for accommodation, spending money to be determined. We're in a holiday gîte style place so will be shopping in the local supermarket and eating out most nights. Two adults and one dog. We've done this the last couple of years in northern/northwest France and really enjoyed it.

The £1200 spend for Spain for 3 in August is reasonable then??? 5 nights. Just got stung by holiday company as they couldn’t book the accommodation we wanted so looking for another deal around this price

Interesting. I hadn't thought of our Norway holiday in June as particularly cheap, but in comparison to most of these, it certainly was!

To be fair, we do take a few holidays a year rather than spend a lot on one holiday. We probably spent more on our Easter holiday (2 weeks by train all the way to Morocco staying in a mix of hotels and airbnbs, lots of eating out, just 2 adults for that one) and I'm also travelling solo for two weeks in Georgia and Armenia in September, but I'm doing that reasonably cheaply. Independent travel and fairly inexpensive guesthouses at £20-£40 a night

2 adults B&B in Kefalonia in August £2300. Expect to spend another £1000 or so on meals out, boat trip, airport parking, Cattery, etc

We’re taking our son to Haven for 5 days in August, £550 - the last week in August is cheaper in Scotland so cashed in on that.

Just myself and my partner have got 7 days in September booked, AI Tunisia - £1100.
