How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

We're going to Carlisle, because our football team is playing there!

We will drive 20 miles to get on the fastest train line. £40 return on the train.

Premier Inn by the ground.

Maybe £20 to go to the cathedral, Hadrians Wall and museums.

We will take as much food as possible but might go out for an Indian meal on one of the nights.

Hopefully not more than £100 in total.

Staying in Cape Town - in Simon's Town

I have done it many times with a safari in the Pilanesburg or Garden Route or Jo.burg and all similar costs.

I am a bargain hunter so keep a watch on prices before I book.

£160 haven 4 nights in Filey, took all our own food, £100 spending money all in. Went in March, £260 total

£350 eurocamp 7 nights, £300 ferry return to France, £160 4 nights Parkdean in Poole, 2 nights free with family in august. Estimate £600 spending money again. £1400 approx

£113 half board 4 nights at butlins in October (sharing a room with my friend and her DC). Estimate £100 spending money all in including petrol. £220 approx

We have 3 teens. 2 weeks in Scotland (one staying with family, one self catering), £3000 for accomodation and travel, probably another £1K for food and activities.

Not quite summer as its mid-September. This year it's 6 nights in Southampton for British science festival. £130 air BnB, £100 train fare. £30 food shop when I get there. I take my bicycle to get about. Probably £150 spending money for the odd meal out/sausage roll/fun money/shopping. Most of my entertainment will be the festival itself which is free.

Oh and my neighbours look after the pets (I look after theirs in return).

We’ve just done this for the first time - absolutely preferred it to the usual week around a pool all inclusive. Hope you have a ball!

Ten days cruising to watch the total eclipse. Five people (2A3C) in two cabins, c£10k. No excursions booked we just rock up and explore - couple of lunches out, otherwise AI on the boat.

10 day road trip through Albania and North Macedonia, ferry to Corfu and 1 week self catered apartment. All costs- flights, hotels, hire car, ferry, travel insurance and dog sitter for £2200 total for 2 adults and a toddler in August. Will budget around 1k spending money. We usually do long haul as works out cheaper than Europe in peak months. Partner teacher so restricted by school holidays already!

Yes, I consider myself well paid however I aim for under 1k per person. So Ireland, character property (£1400) plus ferry (£600) plus food (same as I’d normally buy) plus a few days out that cost about £150. That’s for eight nights three people.

I also do a short break with my son and aim to spend £500 for about 3’nights. This year it was Cornwall by train via London. I think we may have gone slightly over but it was a fantastic trip.

i pay in cash up front for holidays. I would always budget something annually. I am a little constrained by pets and caring duties so can’t manage a full two weeks anyway. I am mid 50s and 10-15 years ago tje priority was nursery fees, 5-10 years ago I prioritised paying off the mortgage and now I prioritise my pension. Every 10-20k spend is another year working for me and I am knackered! So yeah, I am curious if people pay on credit card, whether they claim any benefits, whether they have a pension, paid off mortgage etc etc. or if this is truly disposable income available after all the serious stuff is dealt with. I am also very happy with the holidays we have taken as a family so I don’t feel we are missing out.

Also going to Scarborough for 2 nights for £250 plus petrol. Will spend the bare minimum there if we can.

We booked ours in January, paid a 10% deposit and paid the rest in June, so no credit card but we had a few months to put the money aside to pay for it and save up spending money. We also spent a lot less on food and drink than we would have in the UK, Ireland or in most of Europe and the hotel was a much better standard and better value for money.

2 adults, 5* AI to Mexico with reserved extra legroom seats, private transfer, in July £5200. Paid the same to go to Lanzarote last year. Mexico is good value compared to Europe. We’ll take £1k spending money for trips out but doubt we’ll spend it all.

I knew it would land badly. However, I am a multi millionaire, I have no debt, we make a lot of money. I would rather spend it than hoard it - better for the economy - or should I stop working and live off my wealth?

Travel employs local people and we try and be as eco as possible, part of the reason it costs so much.

£3k one week all inclusive in Spain next week. 2 adults and 2 older kids. Happy with the price we got as hotel has lovely reviews. We’ll eat out some nights and do excursions/beach trips.

Week in Norfolk cottage in June . me , partner , grown up son and my parents . £950 plus spends which I d guess were maybe £800 between all of us including Tesco delivery.

Week in canaries all inclusive in sept just me and partner . Just under £1500 , we ll be 90% reading by the pool and maybe one excursion so £200 spends

We camp in the UK. It’s a few hundred quid in peak season, there’s a pool and the kids love it. It’s also better for the environment not flying.
