How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

You see them advertised on jet2! I be like who in the gods name is spending that on one holiday. Don’t have that sort of cash but would I hell be sitting on a jet2 flight getting my seat kicked by some brat of a child and paying that money 🤣

£1,030 on flights, transfers, accommodation and an overnight train journey for 2 adults. 2 nights in Rome and five nights in Taormina, Sicily. Lovely hotels. Approximately £800 for spending money each. This was early May and booked in January. Lots of sightseeing, a boat trip and had a brilliant time. I brought back €10 😄

4* hotel 1 week Menorca. Apartment. Breakfast inc. £2200

7 nights in Portugal, B&B apartment, 4 adults - £2400 + around £1500 spending money, which will pretty much all be spent on eating and drinking - we’ll do pool, beach, a bit of exploring but we’re out the other side of dc (20 and 17) needing entertainment - they’re not really into ‘activities,’ they just need feeding and watering…a lot! We all love eating out so we’ll do a lot of that.

£400 4 nights self catering 2 friends and one dog in Peak District in August. Accommodation sleeps 6 though! Lots of facilities on site including swimming pool and sauna. Food will be weekly groceries for us but have budgeted £50 pp per day for either lunch or dinner out.

£445 4 nights in Cornwall in August

I just added it up and for two adults, a toddler and a baby we spent £1420 for a week self catering in north Wales in July. That includes petrol to get there, a two bedroom holiday cottage and all food, drink, activities, parking etc. while we were there.

Two weeks ago we spent 5 days in a chalet in Devon.
£150 plus £200 spending/food money

Early September we're spending a week in Cornwall in a house £300 plus £300 spending/food money

Booked Sun holidays so accommodation allocated on arrival.

My mind is blown that some people spend tens of thousands on a holiday.

£2100 4 adults 2 children all inc water park in hotel, sunny beach Bulgaria. We went in june It was fantastic.

Why not? Any plans to change that?

When my Daughter was little, her favourite holiday was at a caravan park, so much so that when we got back she walked into our house and she cried that it wasnt a caravan. She had an absolute blast.

Just over £6k package holiday half board 5* hotel for 7 nights, popular Greek Island. Early August.

Family of four including older teenagers, two rooms.

Airport parking and spending money/drinks at hotel etc will add another £500-800ish.

Great holidays with the children were in caravans. Haverford West and Devon. Lovely memories.

9 nights in June to Costa Brava coast (2adults 4 kids) £3800 including spending money

7 nights end of August in Spain £858 for flights, eurocamp and car hire plus spending money probably £8/900 for the week. So £1700ish total.

camping start of August about £250 for 4 nights to Devon - about £400 spending money

£450 for ferry and Netherlands eurocamp in October half term 1 week plus about £800 for petrol and spending money (could do this on less if we don’t eat out!)

£600 for a weekend trip just me and partner to Italy end of Sept this includes flights, accommodation and £300 spending money.

Northern Europe for 10 days.

I would estimate £3500 all in...more than I budgeted for!

13500 for 10 days older kids - 4 adults and 1 teen in Antalya turkey. Definitely a lot more than a couple of years ago

3 weeks Sri Lanka for three. 7-8000 pounds

For us we’re lucky enough that we’re now bringing in more money in our late 40s/early 50s and don’t have any childcare costs as they’re teenagers. Not quite the famous mumsnet six-figure salaries although one of us is not that far off.

Also realised with teenagers that holidays are worth investing in for the quality time together (obviously quality time can be done cheaply too). We don’t spend much in other areas that don’t matter as much to us, eg fancy cars or clothes.

When we earned less and had nursery fees/wraparound care etc to pay for, our holidays were far cheaper!

Not quite summer but we managed to get lucky on the May half term week in the first heatwave at Haven, Burnham on Sea (first holiday since 2008), 2 adults, 1 child (10), 3 bed static mobile home with play passes included, .booked a year in advance - £315 - next year already booked! 😂

£780 airbnb in Devon for a week for 2 adults 2 kids. Plus spending money and food for a week. Probably close to £1800, all in.

Pre-kids, our holidays were a lot more exciting! Love my kids but, ahhhh, good times.

£6k to Greece all include. 2 adults, 3 children

2 adults and 2 teens to Croatia for 2 weeks.

About £500 for flights but used some airmiles.

About £5,000 on variety of accommodation. A couple of apartments and a villa.

Will probably be about £750 for car hire and around £200 for ferries.

Around £1,500 for activities such as a boat day, rafting, zip-lining, beach club beds etc

I don’t budget for spending money, we will spend what we spend but will be eating out for all our meals other than breakfast.

Generally, I think our holidays tend to cost around £10k per holiday, all in.
