I'm curious, how much did your summer holiday cost this year?

How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

Very little.
We live abroad so spend 3 weeks of the 6 with my in-laws and 2 weeks with my parents (whom we see more often). It’s a 2-day journey to get to my in-laws so we pay to charge the car up for the journey and for a hotel night on the way down (plus food/snacks). Then the same on the way back up to go to my parents.
While at each location we obviously help out with food shopping and have occasional days out.
Getting back home can be done in a day from my parents’ place, so no hotel room needed there…just the ferry.
During the final week, our youngest son goes to daycare (included in the package/contract anyway) and our eldest goes to his normal after-school club’s holiday activities (not included in the contract but we were able to ‘pay’ for it with credits from days we had cancelled elsewhere in the year). During that time I just do all the admin stuff (haircuts, dentists appts, school clothes shopping etc) and get ready for the new school year. There’s a food festival locally so will probably go to that.
Our summer hold have been like this since our kids (7 and 3) were born. They don’t have everyday F2F contact with their grandparents so we prioritise them in the holidays. It does mean summers get a bit repetitive but it’s low-cost, they’re happy to have us, we’re happy to be there, and we know the kids won’t have their grandparents forever.

We have a 6 berth 20 year old touring caravan. Bought it last year as we’d had enough of camping!
So we (me, DH, DS -11 and DD - 6) have a weeks holiday booked for August to stay in Crantock in Cornwall. Pitch fee is £470, then just food, fuel and days out on top (usually Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Lappa Valley).

Two Adults & Two Secondary School Children

£7k for holiday from TUI in August School Holidays ( so a premium price, but as I tell my kids … education is the most important thing in life so couldn’t take them in term time)

I have budgeted £1.5k for excursions (We want to make the most of the Island - we always go somewhere different each year, so no chance of a return)

budgeting £1k for extras, Cocktails on the beach, shopping, fancy ice creams, meals and drinks during excursions and holiday gifts etc…

plus security fast track passes etc…

so all in close to £10k

£2k for a week in Rome, including flights and hotel (breakfast included). Near the Vatican. 2 adults. I have £1k for spending. All trips paid for already.

8 nights in a hotel in Sardinia, used Avios for flights, about 3.5 - 4 K (2 adults)
7 nights in France, partially staying with friends - don’t know how expensive (DH)
5 nights in the Highlands - not very expensive (DH)
3 nights in the West Country - just paid for some food, restaurants and travel (2 adults)
9 nights accidental holiday (I did not realise the booking went through and they haven’t taken any money, only found out when I received the welcome email) - probably shouldn’t say where or I will out myself. It’s a step up from late night shopping.
Later in the year have a long weekend for a family celebration and a break for Christmas.
Would like to fit in a week in Crete but not sure if we will have time due to the accidental booking.

5 ppl 3 adult 2 children £2500 two weeks in Spain in Aug . Staying in apartments . not one for all inclusive prop take £1000-£2000 spending money

Loubissou · Today 19:35

Mostly here so I can come back for inspiration later as we finally have spare money for proper holidays.

We have always done budget mobile home type holidays in France, spent about £2500 for 4 of us including ferry and spending money for a week.

This year we have just done a week in Cornwall for about £4500 including spending money. Admittedly in a place that could have held 12, and we were only 3. But it was a historic building with acres of private estate.

much cheaper than booking separately. Booked on their sale. It’s B&B. We haven’t set a budget for meals and outings. We’re going for 10 nights.

Wow...is the price reduction due to fear of safety in Egypt?

WillTheRealDeanGaffneyPleaseStandUp · Today 19:59

Me and 15 year old. 11 days travelling around Europe.

About £2000 trains
About £1000 in hotels
Aiming for less than £1500 spending money, hopefully closer to £1000

It was originally meant to be much longer which was why the trains are so expensive but circumstances mean that hasn't worked out. All in all, we've wasted a lot of money but at least the holiday wasn't cancelled.

ThisRedMoose · Today 20:00

We've just had a week in Corfu (mid July), 2 adults for around £850 including SC accommodation, flights, transfers, booked seats and around £650 spending money which covered breakfast and evening meal out, drinks, ice creams, snacks and gifts

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · Today 20:01

We have just paid £2.5k for a 4 bed, sleeps 8, property, generally very well furnished/equipped, with a good sized garden, close to the Northumberland coast.

For me and dh plus his Dbro, dd and 3 x Gdcs.

Largely eating in, beach picnics, barbecues, etc. - the weather has been unexpectedly fantastic!
