Does anyone want to get excited together about upcoming Holidays?

I am so excited, but don't really have anyone (apart from DH) to get excited with. It feels too much like gloating, as friends don't have any upcoming trips. But I am so excited!! We are going to the Caribbean in 2 weeks time. We have booked first class train travel to Manchester Airport, we have an Executive room with lounge access and a runway view at the Radisson Blu, and we have Premium Seats on the flight.

I'm self employed and I have only had about 5 days off since February, so I really need this break. I've got all my holiday clothes out, ready to pack. I got some lovely Monsoon dresses off Vinted for a fraction of the original price.

Anyone else going away soon?

That sounds amazing. I have some holidays booked but they're a while away so right now don't feel very excited...I definitely would be 2 weeks before though!!! I hope you have the best time 🥂

How lovely!

It's crap isn't it? When you have something nice but don't feel that you can talk about it because you don't want to piss on anyone's chips.

Where abouts are you staying? Do you have any fabulous excursions booked?

I love holidays.

Flameup · 01/11/2025 09:40

Have you checked your hotel is still standing??

Flameup · 01/11/2025 09:42

I can’t imagine a friend thinking I was “gloating” when I expressed excitement about a forthcoming big holiday 😵‍💫

We're going to Dominican Republic. No excursions booked, we are going to simply bob around the pool, get cocktails at the swim up bar, make new friends, dress up for dinner, dance the nights away.....

DR was thankfully not affected by Melissa

I just don't want to drone on about it, when they don't have anything coming up. And tbf, I hardly see anyone, as I work 7 days a week.

Why would you drone on about it?!

Do you have close friends / family?

Thickasabrick89 · 01/11/2025 09:49

I'm going away to Thailand for a month in December with my husband and 4 year old but I've also kept it on the down low as most people have finished their big summer holiday trips for the year by now.

Silly really but I'm brimming with excitement on the inside

OMG that sounds amazing! I've never been to Thailand but it's defo on the bucket list. How amazing to go for a month. Are you in an AirBnB? We are doing India in March though.

I think you need to get back to the office and start seeing people op because talking about holidays isn’t gloating or droning on (unless that is actually what you would do?!) it’s just chewing the fat in the break out area before a meeting kind of thing.

“Break out area” makes me feel a bit sick 🤢 what the fuck is that? Sounds like a horrible windowless room with a water cooler for all the precious souls who need recovery time after an hours work.

OP it sounds great. Especially the splurging on the train and the lounge then feeling smug cause your dress is off vinted 🤣 love that

How weird… take it you haven’t worked in an a large corporate environment recently!

it’s an area that it set aside from meetings that have been arranged on the spot ie… let’s talk about this further, but no meeting room available.

Overdonecabbage · 01/11/2025 14:21

And the break out area in my office has floor to ceiling windows with a view over the Thames!

ConnieHeart · 01/11/2025 14:27

How weird. You really think that others don't have anything nice to look forward to? Just because I haven't got a holiday booked it doesn't mean I don't have nice things going on in my life. Saying that, im not someone who looks forward to things as such, I'm more of a live in the moment type person

ErwinsCat · 01/11/2025 15:07

I'm hoping to book some winter sun soon, and feeling mega excited and that's before I book it! It's nice to have things to look forward to, and equally fine if that's not your thing.

My biggest thought is how can I pack for a week in a hand luggage sized bag (I know I could just pay extra for a hold bag). I realise how ridiculous I sound, I'm clearly out of practice!

fruitypancake · 01/11/2025 15:14

This sounds incredible OP , what life is all about ! I hope you have the most wonderful time xx

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 01/11/2025 15:23

Not as soon as you but very excited for our holiday to Antigua at Easter

cupfinalchaos · 01/11/2025 15:41

For some reason I’m not excited about our upcoming holiday. Dh and I are going with my elderly parents on a cruise, I do like the boat but it’s 17 days round the Caribbean, all the islands look the same and I know I’ll be bored ridged. Also I’ve tried so hard to lose weight and it’s going well.. I don’t need the temptation of buffets. We’re doing it for my parents.. df is 94 and this will be his last big trip. A lot of money for something I’m not looking forward to!

LadyFlumpalot · 01/11/2025 15:45

Ohhhh yes please. DH and I are taking the kids to spend Xmas in Grindelwald. I am ridiculously excited about it, about being able to give them a magical time. Neither of them have ever really seen proper snow, let alone experienced a white Christmas.

Mine has views on St. Pauls. We have a small roof terrace and beautiful sofas, a great kitchen and all drinks provided plus lunch once a week.

It’s a lovely area
I suspect the PP is may public sector or hasn’t worked in a nice office… ever

Why would I work in a nice office? You do know that there are many more jobs than ones with “break out areas”? And that some people don’t need to work 😊

NConthe · 01/11/2025 18:46

Also they sound shite. As do the people in them. Ooh mine has a view of St Paul’s, yah yah, well mine has a view of the Thames 🥱

Fancy going to the break out area, it’s lovely and we can sit bitching on the internet at a woman who just wanted to share her excitement. Pathetic 🤣

I don’t get your point?

you seemed bamboozled by the concept of a break out area that wasn’t a windowless grey hole. Break out areas are very commonplace In large office environments and nice ones aren’t as you think they are.

so reasonable assumption that you don’t have experience of working in an office with a nice break out area?
