Does anyone want to get excited together about upcoming Holidays?

I am so excited, but don't really have anyone (apart from DH) to get excited with. It feels too much like gloating, as friends don't have any upcoming trips. But I am so excited!! We are going to the Caribbean in 2 weeks time. We have booked first class train travel to Manchester Airport, we have an Executive room with lounge access and a runway view at the Radisson Blu, and we have Premium Seats on the flight.

I'm self employed and I have only had about 5 days off since February, so I really need this break. I've got all my holiday clothes out, ready to pack. I got some lovely Monsoon dresses off Vinted for a fraction of the original price.

Anyone else going away soon?

Also they sound shite. As do the people in them. Ooh mine has a view of St Paul’s, yah yah, well mine has a view of the Thames 🥱

Fancy going to the break out area, it’s lovely and we can sit bitching on the internet at a woman who just wanted to share her excitement. Pathetic 🤣

😆

you really haven’t ever worked in a plush office environment with nice facilities and colleague you respect and enjoy their company have you?!

momtoboys · 01/11/2025 18:48

We are going on a two week cruise in January. Our first cruise in the Caribbean. I'm not certain I am a "cruise person" but I guess we will find out! Oh, and we booked 1st class plane tickets to get to our ship.

You sound really…. Highly strung? @NConthe

Have you got a nice holiday planned? I hope so 💐

Overdonecabbage · 01/11/2025 18:46

I don’t get your point?

you seemed bamboozled by the concept of a break out area that wasn’t a windowless grey hole. Break out areas are very commonplace In large office environments and nice ones aren’t as you think they are.

so reasonable assumption that you don’t have experience of working in an office with a nice break out area?

No, I hate the terminology. I said the phrase makes me feel a bit ill, and the vision it conjured up.

Office speak and buzz words and all that, makes me cringe. “Break out areas” did not exist last time I had any need to go near an office. Thankfully.

Haha, so bitchy for someone who’s clearly sitting waiting for replies. Honestly. Not sure you understand what “highly strung” means love but yes, plenty of holidays planned.

I’ve worked with plenty of people I love, but do tend to swerve the materialistic snobby types if that’s what you mean. Why would anyone want to work in a “plush office environment”? Cmon, it sounds dull as fuck. Especially with all the jargon, reminds me of David Brent 😅

Haha, are you this weird in the break out area?

There are lots of phrases I don’t like, pretty normal I think

Ohhhh yes please. DH and I are taking the kids to spend Xmas in Grindelwald. I am ridiculously excited about it, about being able to give them a magical time. Neither of them have ever really seen proper snow, let alone experienced a white Christmas.

Now this I'd love! Something totaly different! My kids are young adults but I think any age could get on board with that plan.

JimsBeam · 01/11/2025 19:02

We are going to Disneyland Paris next month. Our first day in the park is Boxing Day but we are leaving Christmas Day night. The kids don’t know and are going to find out on Christmas Day morning and I am so excited for their reaction.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 01/11/2025 19:14

We've recently moved, & the last 3-4 months have been very stressful for many reasons.
Still haven't got everything sorted out, but we are going away next week & the rest of the chaos can wait.

A cruise on the Douro river.

Everything done for us, waited on hand-and-foot, only decisions to make are what to eat & what wine to have with it.

MissAmbrosia · 01/11/2025 19:26

I'd love to do the Douro cruise. Have it on my to do list. My next holiday is very small scale - we are going home to Dover. But I have booked to stay in Dover Castle via English Heritage. I have been there so many times, since I was a small child. The idea of actually staying there is so amazing. It's closed the entire time we are there, so we will get the grounds to ourselves.

So excited - we are doing similar this year with our young adult kids - off to the Austrian Tyrol for 5 nights over xmas. First time ever going away for xmas - we have never been a skiing family - not sure if we will this time (or if it is worth it) but have a place with half board so will likely be out walking, going up the ski lift, and then coming back to eat!

Curlybrunette · 02/11/2025 10:57

Your holiday sounds fabulous OP, we went to the Dominican a few years ago (Punta Cana) and did a trip which involved a speed boat ride, a different boat (not sure what type, it was a bit bigger and slower) where we could get off and snorkel, the boat took us to a different little island with a lovely beach.

Then we got on a different boat (lots of boats that day!), it was a river boat and we sailed up a river into a rainforest. we walked through the forest and had lunch.

That all sounds exhausting but it was only about 6 hours I think and it was a really fun day.

Not sure if you're into lots of boats and a rainforest but I would recommend it if you are.

I know what you mean about sounding like you're gloating. I work with lovely people but we are fortunate enough to do quite a lot of trips (nights away/weekend trips/1 or 2 abroad holidays a year) and I feel like I'd sound like a show off if I talked about them all. I tend not to mention it and if someone asks if I'm doing anything with my time off I will say what I'm doing, but not mention it first usually.

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/11/2025 11:01

We are going to Gran Canaria from 11th December till after Christmas! I bloody hate Christmas so we shall be escaping all the crap. Can't wait!

Curlybrunette · 02/11/2025 11:04

@Thickasabrick89 your trip sounds great, have you been to Thailand before? Are you travelling around or having 1 base for the 4 weeks?

We're planning Thailand for next November, I think our current plan is 3 nights in Bangkok, 3 nights, Elephant Camp, 3 nights Phuket, 3 nights Krabi (not necessarily in that order).

Crushed23 · 03/11/2025 03:15

I’m going to the Caribbean at the end of the month and also can’t wait. I have done a lot of travel this year but none of it has been relaxing really (road trips, festivals, city breaks, hiking trips). This will be the first trip where I’m hopefully going to do nothing but relax for a week. 🙌

For some reason I’m not excited about our upcoming holiday. Dh and I are going with my elderly parents on a cruise, I do like the boat but it’s 17 days round the Caribbean, all the islands look the same and I know I’ll be bored ridged. Also I’ve tried so hard to lose weight and it’s going well.. I don’t need the temptation of buffets. We’re doing it for my parents.. df is 94 and this will be his last big trip. A lot of money for something I’m not looking forward to!

I hope your parents are paying for you! Or at least a large contribution. It's not reasonable for anyone to make someone go on holiday they won't enjoy and expect them to pay for it too.
