Does anyone want to get excited together about upcoming Holidays?

I am so excited, but don't really have anyone (apart from DH) to get excited with. It feels too much like gloating, as friends don't have any upcoming trips. But I am so excited!! We are going to the Caribbean in 2 weeks time. We have booked first class train travel to Manchester Airport, we have an Executive room with lounge access and a runway view at the Radisson Blu, and we have Premium Seats on the flight.

I'm self employed and I have only had about 5 days off since February, so I really need this break. I've got all my holiday clothes out, ready to pack. I got some lovely Monsoon dresses off Vinted for a fraction of the original price.

Anyone else going away soon?

Ohhhh yes please. DH and I are taking the kids to spend Xmas in Grindelwald. I am ridiculously excited about it, about being able to give them a magical time. Neither of them have ever really seen proper snow, let alone experienced a white Christmas.

I love Switzerland and am very envious of your trip.

Titasaducksarse · 15/11/2025 11:04

I live for my holidays and planning, discussing and getting excited is part of it.

I don't have anything planned, however I've just got back from India which was amazing. Then, this morning all I've done is look at Corfu for June (it's the only place in the world that we are repeat travellers to...we have a little resort we love and try to go annually but didn't this year).

mamagogo1 · 15/11/2025 11:08

I’m jealous op, I love holidays! I’m lucky to go on a few trips though this year all but one in uk as over did it last year (got married)

jsy44 · 15/11/2025 18:42

A cruise can be whatever you want it to be. Do some research and decide what you want to do on each port. No need to do the ship's (usually very expensive) excursions. Just get off and walk, or taxi to those glorious Caribbean beaches. My mum died last year, aged 96. I'd give anything to be able to go on holiday with her again...

jsy44 · 15/11/2025 18:46

I'm sad that my Jamaican holiday won't be happening. Cancelled yesterday and due to travel on 24th....now got to hunt for replacement. Can't complain when I think of the terrible situation the Jamaicans are enduring though.

Also they sound shite. As do the people in them. Ooh mine has a view of St Paul’s, yah yah, well mine has a view of the Thames 🥱

Fancy going to the break out area, it’s lovely and we can sit bitching on the internet at a woman who just wanted to share her excitement. Pathetic 🤣

Exactly this . I can’t believe what a silly tone this thread took after someone just posted excited for her holiday .

My next holiday is to the UK for Christmas and I'm really excited 😁 Can't wait for the cold weather and Christmas lights 🧑‍🎄🥶

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 15/11/2025 22:28

I am single and the children have flown the nest, I don't have anyone i can get all excited for !! I'm debating going on a cruise on Monday!

Crushed23 · 16/11/2025 20:02

I’m getting all my grooming done today ahead or my Caribbean trip next Saturday. 😎 Feels strange getting a pedicure in what feels like the depths of winter here. Can’t wait to escape the cold, I’m NOT a winter person.

3beastiesandme · 16/11/2025 20:10

I have 3 booked short breaks next year- a snowy one with my beasties, my bestie and her beasties, a 2 night cruise with another girlfriend and a long weekend in Greece next September with my mum and sister. Feeling very spoilt but having had years of not being able to afford to go away, I’m now making the most of it!

For some reason I’m not excited about our upcoming holiday. Dh and I are going with my elderly parents on a cruise, I do like the boat but it’s 17 days round the Caribbean, all the islands look the same and I know I’ll be bored ridged. Also I’ve tried so hard to lose weight and it’s going well.. I don’t need the temptation of buffets. We’re doing it for my parents.. df is 94 and this will be his last big trip. A lot of money for something I’m not looking forward to!

Ah try and enjoy it for your parents, last big holiday for your dad is just a bit sad.. you will get lots more holidays so definitely this one is for him. Hopefully it will be wonderful and you’ll all enjoy yourselves. Just pile your plate high with meat and veg/eggs/fruit on the buffet!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 16/11/2025 20:38

Gosh, there are some very exotic-sounding holidays on this thread! I am going a little closer to home, but it is still a 670+ mile trek to a specific Scottish island next summer. I have always wanted to visit all of the islands, but the distance and my work pattern make fitting trips in a bit difficult! Throw in unpredictable weather, and I may find myself stranded on the island, attempting to get phone signal to say that I cannot be in work on Monday morning.

I will see sheep and puffins, and hopefully, learn a new skill relating to an existing hobby. It will be my first holiday in 4+ years! It will be my second solo trip further afield, and my first ever flying on my own. I'm going to have to buy a suitcase and everything and thank goodness that my passport expires a couple of weeks after my trip!

I would also like to arrange another trip to do something very niche that I have wanted to do for years, but the locations are few and far between in the UK!

toastandegg · 16/11/2025 21:28

Mine isn’t for a couple of months but I absolutely adore travel and do lots of it so tend not to bring it up or post photos on socials as I don’t want to appear like I’m gloating - but yes I am super excited

OhDear111 · 17/11/2025 08:48

@cupfinalchaos The islands are different! It’s the ship that stays the same! Where are you going? I’m assuming not 17 islands?!! Having said that, you will be herded if you are on a huge cruise ship so exploring is limited. What will DF do at each port?

@3beastiesandme
Where are you going on your 2 night cruise ?

@TheeNotoriousPIG
just noticing what you say about your passport expiring a couple of weeks after your trip - are you flying within the UK, or from outside and have you checked that is OK? I don’t know rules for coming to UK but I know when we travel to other places you often have to have extra weeks or months left before renewing.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 18/11/2025 20:13

My next two breaks are to Chester in December and Spain in February. I am hoping Chester will be nice and Christmassy - as long as we don’t get too much rain.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 19/11/2025 10:57

@ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy I am within the UK (I haven't braved a trip further afield yet). If all else fails, I can swim, so perhaps I'll pack my swimming cap for a trip to and from the Scottish mainland, just in case 😂

I'd prefer to drive, but flying will save me so much time!

It is a “Saturday night fever” themed cruise to France. Literally over night on the ferry both ways for some much needed girl time and cheese!

Are you on your holiday now, OP? How’s it going?! Post pictures if you can. :)

I fly to the Caribbean tomorrow, but haven’t had chance to get excited yet as work has been so busy. Got to do all my packing and holiday admin tomorrow.

OneAquaGoose · 21/11/2025 21:47

Some gorgeous holidays here! We’re off to Mauritius in February for DH’s big birthday. First long haul / tropical with both DC.

LadyFlumpalot · 29/11/2025 20:45

I’m starting to become insufferable with daily snow updates to DH. I’ve been watching the webcams at Grindelwald and they have had SO MUCH SNOW. I know I still have three weeks so it may all melt… but fingers crossed it stays cold!
