Emirates have upgraded my flight to Business from Premium Economy!

Just that! I am visiting my son in Dubai in January and have been upgraded. I am travelling on my own. Any tips on do's and don't in Business? I'm a bit nervous 😓 and a lovely surprise for my retirement ❤️

OP posts:

Don't beam with excitement when they offer you a drink? Do you think the OP has no idea at all?

OP, just enjoy the experience - I'm really jealous! Have a look on YouTube to see if anyone's posted about their experience.

I have no idea what you're talking about. There is no part to play and no dress code.

Business isn’t the same as economy. If she wants to fit in she’ll want to dress nicely and behave like everyone else will.

honeylulu · 16/10/2025 17:10

I'm really happy and excited for you OP. I would love this to happen to me and it never has. I know some people say it's just a seat and I used to think the same but now I'm older and stiffer and achier, the extra room and comfort does seem more valuable!

Just relax and enjoy. Leave plenty of time to enjoy the lounge too.

Don't worry about dressing up, be comfy that's the main thing.

Dress nicely - make sure you look tidy. Linen over leggings, for example.

Make sure your luggage isn’t tatty and is neat, make sure you can lift your bag into the overhead locker yourself.

Make sure you take everything you need and don’t beam with excitement when they offer you a drink. Just accept it and thank them.

Be lowkey. Don’t overindulge. This is just a normal experience for everyone around you. Make sure you have headphones and you’re quite etc.

What on earth are you talking about?! What do you think will happen if OP's luggage is tatty?

We got upgraded 20 years ago to NYC via BA if we flew from another airport, wasn’t just out party either there was loads of us in trackies and normal flying comfies. We had champagne and all the food, lay down on the bed was amazing. I was also early 20s and first long haul, so another world.

@Cominghomesoon Just enjoy it. You don’t have to make any changes. Most people fly are clean and wear clean clothes and take luggage that isn’t falling apart whatever seat they are in.

What on earth are you talking about ‘fit in’?

You are being ridiculous everyone is telling you so even an air steward. No one cares. Let people live and be excited. I doubt very much anyone will bat an eye lid if she is in comfies and drinks the champagne! People aren’t all stiff upper lip and designer gear just because they can fly in more expensive seats

babasaclover · 16/10/2025 16:40

You should have access to their business class lounge in the airport too. Make sure to make use of that and enjoy!

Yep check out how much time you are allowed in the lounge and turn up asap. We get free lounge passes and are allowed every 3 hours pre flight. You better believe I am there 3 hours in advance.

TheNinjaWife · 16/10/2025 17:18

We have recently taken 4 business class flights with Emirates, we had an excellent experience. I especially love the A380 with the stand up bar. The crew were super friendly and even gave us a tour of the plane. Absolutely lovely food.
I have flown with Emirates business before but even there economy is good especially if you pick a quieter cabin 2 seats together. Also in business class the seat set up on the 777 is similar to the A380 now. Completely flat bed now.

I think the days of dressing up to the nines for flights has pretty much gone unless you're hoping for an upgrade on the day (or on some airlines if you are on staff travel..😬)..

Even up in First quite a few folks rock up in jeans or what looks like smart track suit bottoms these days....

the 1960's is calling, they want to know when you will be back

TheNinjaWife · 16/10/2025 17:25

their not there!
In regards to dress just wear something comfortable. This time I wore a shirt dress and leggings. They give you slippers so you can where whatever shoes you want.
I really don’t like flying, however I’d fly anywhere with Emirates business. DH has flown first for business before, that’s on my bucket list. To have a shower on a plane. Although in business if transiting through Dubai you do have the use of shower facilities in the lounge which we used on the way home.

Happened to me once. It was great.

Well aware of that having used Emirates BC for this route to connect to SE Asia more times than I can remember thanks to my employer's travel policy. Thanks for the pointless and incorrect etiquette tips though.

HolidayHappy123 · 16/10/2025 17:32

Don't take any notice of posters telling you how you should dress or what your luggage should look like. Anything goes. Just do what you are comfortable with.

Read some reviews so you know what you have to look forward to. You can start with this: Review: Emirates Business Class Airbus A380 (JFK-MXP) - One Mile at a Time.

Enjoy!

Don't forget if you're flying business OP, emirates will collect you to and from the airport up to an hour from the airport - if you live nearby, it's a godsend!

Unlikely for an upgrade.

notimagain · 16/10/2025 17:35

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 16/10/2025 17:25

Yes, and they’re the people who have been upgraded, not the ones who should be there!

Not really, often as not in First it was the HNW full umpty thousand pound fare payer and loyalty card holders who rocked up in smart but casual...

HolidayHappy123 · 16/10/2025 17:37

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 16/10/2025 16:55

It’s absolutely not nonsense. You want to look the part. If you want to dress any other way, you can always turn down the upgrade!

Absolute bollocks. I fly business and first regularly and usually wear a hoodie with sweatpants or jeans and trainers. That's what most people wear.

Blimey, if I've paid for business or First & want to turn up in my joggers, I absolutely will. I fit in everywhere but never really change what I wear.

Whiff of Bucket and PLU here...

Ignore all of this, OP. Take it from those of us on this thread who actually do use business class regularly, all of what this poster has said is nonsense.

Be as excited as you want, and have a lovely flight. And definitely get to the airport a little earlier so you can have a relax in the lounge before the flight. Some offer mini massages!

Of course it is nonsense. You can wear what you like (within standard airline travel rules)

you just keep digging down - have you even been on a plane?

MaiAamWaliHun · 16/10/2025 17:44

Just wear what you are comfortable in. Take advantage of the free food and drink in the first class lounge, go early to enjoy. Beam all you want when given nice things! Feel free to ask staff if you are unsure about something, they will be happy to explain stuff if you just say 'I've never flown first before'. Enjoy it!

Nandina · 16/10/2025 17:46

How lovely. Enjoy it!
