Emirates have upgraded my flight to Business from Premium Economy!

Just that! I am visiting my son in Dubai in January and have been upgraded. I am travelling on my own. Any tips on do's and don't in Business? I'm a bit nervous 😓 and a lovely surprise for my retirement ❤️

Business isn’t the same as economy. If she wants to fit in she’ll want to dress nicely and behave like everyone else will.

We fly Emirates business monthly and I can assure you not everyone behaves and there’s a wide range of dress styles.

I’m not sure who mentioned it upthread but not all Emirates upgrades entitles people to the chauffeur service or lounge access. Booking an Emirates business class special ticket doesn’t entitle you to seat selection, chauffeur drive or lounge access, the rest do.

What a lovely surprise @Cominghomesoon enjoy your flight 😀

Dress nicely - make sure you look tidy. Linen over leggings, for example.

Make sure your luggage isn’t tatty and is neat, make sure you can lift your bag into the overhead locker yourself.

Make sure you take everything you need and don’t beam with excitement when they offer you a drink. Just accept it and thank them.

Be lowkey. Don’t overindulge. This is just a normal experience for everyone around you. Make sure you have headphones and you’re quite etc.

Ignore this, I travel business many times a year and wear a Hollister or Primark sweatshirt with my favourite M&S thin jogging bottoms.
I have an assortment of luggage, most of it has seen better days and still beam away when I’m offered champagne before takeoff and the menu.

Linenpickle · 16/10/2025 18:04

Will you get to use the business class lounge?

Ansjovis · 16/10/2025 18:05

Don't fall for the rage bait, people.

I've never flown Emirates business but I have done a fair bit of business class flying. Most of the dos and don'ts of business travel are exactly the same as they are in economy - be considerate of your fellow passengers, be polite to the crew and don't wander around in your socks (yes the floors are still dirty).

Do you know what aircraft type you are on? Not all Emirates aircraft are created equally unfortunately, some still have a 2-3-2 configuration in business so if you're on one of those then I'd be checking your seat number to see where they've put you.

Load nonsense. Ex emirates first class hostie here!

Dress however you want to, relax, and enjoy. Eat as much or as little as you want, don't forget to open all the cabinets in your suite, as there are hidden help yourself bars and snack boxes for you. The crew will definitely look after you, and you can always ask for more of anything if you need it.

Haha hubby and I were upgraded on an overbooked Emirates flight. We had already had a long flight so probably looked like a couple of vagrants. Nobody cared what we looked like and it was one of the highlights of my entire life 😊 brilliant!!

Kittyberry · 16/10/2025 18:08

Lucky you! I hope you enjoy every expensive minute.

DH and I are going long haul at end of the year; booked 2 seats, one Business for me (!) and one premium economy for him (!) we will swap on the return flight .

I am wondering about swapping seats mid flight to allow the other to lie flat and sleep....I am thinking it is not OK as seats are allocated to just one specific passenger..also its disruptive to be swapping mid flight and disturbing those around you...DH disagrees...but I am sure I am correct.

Any views anyone?

PS Sorry to 'highjack' your post OP!!!!

I wander around in the socks provided.

Hope you get the A380, a good film menu, a free beauty bag and not too many drunk businessmen. Wear whatever you want (recommend comfy, have a nice sleep and be refreshed for a lovely trip to see your son.

It’s pretty early to have been given an upgrade by the airline. They would normally keep business class seat available to sell as long as possible. Maybe your son upgraded you?

Exactly. There's no way the airline has randomly upgraded you three months in advance out of the kindness of their hearts.

When were you last in business class? Most people wear joggers, leggings or lounge wear as they are going to relax and sleep.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/10/2025 18:23

What good news! I got 2 free upgrades to Business with BA recently. Long haul flights. It was great. Very relaxing. There's no need to dress smart. If I'm going to a hot country, and especially if flying overnight, I always wear thin joggers, a t-shirt and a lightweight long sleeve top.

Motnight · 16/10/2025 18:24

I love a thread with good news! Enjoy, Op!

Overthebow · 16/10/2025 18:28

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 16/10/2025 16:55

It’s absolutely not nonsense. You want to look the part. If you want to dress any other way, you can always turn down the upgrade!

What do you think ‘the part’ is? Who do you think is flying business? Whenever I’ve flown business most people are just in comfy travel clothes. There’s no need at all to dress in anything special. It’s just a plane seat, you spend most of your time sitting down and no one cares how you’re dressed.

Cominghomesoon · 16/10/2025 18:28

Hopefully it is a 380. My understanding is that it doesn't include airport lounge but that's OK! I will speak to my son to see if he arranged it😊

My username probably explains what I do for a job.

What bollocks. You are in your own little capsule and no one is the slightest bit interested what clothes you have on or if you beam when they hand you a glass of fizz. Unless you're Hyacinth Bucket of course

OnlyOnAFriday · 16/10/2025 18:36

Dd got upgraded from economy to business class on a transatlantic BA flight a bit ago, she didn’t know until she was at the airport. She would have been in her usual tracksuit. She said all the staff were lovely. However she doesn’t drink and didn’t like the seat much so think it was wasted on her.

SmallPotatoAdventCalendar · 16/10/2025 18:38

stackhead · 16/10/2025 16:32

It's just a seat on the plane :) It's the same do's and don'ts as being in public generally.

Enjoy the comfy seat!

Have you ever flown Business Class?

It absolutely isn't "just a seat on the plane - although I agree with your last point, unlike @NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands who seems to be existing in some sort of weird, parallel universe.

Obeseandashamed · 16/10/2025 18:42

Just enjoy it! No airs and graces to be had. We frequently travel in various carriages and whilst you do get some who wear blazers etc, you also get normal folk who just want to travel in comfort. My husband and father in law only ever travel business yet you wouldn’t pick them out if you didn’t know. Basic good manners and etiquette is all that is needed (in any class). Have a safe and fantastic flight ✈️

It's much more than that - it's absolutely brilliant! And the lounges are next level as well. Have the best time OP.

Chazbots · 16/10/2025 18:50

And tbf, having looked at Vuori leggings & a nice cardi recently, it's probably quite appropriate for posh travel.
