How many long haul trips a year do you take?

For leisure, not work. We are thinking of doing three this year and then a few hops over to Europe.

None.

Clearinguptheclutter · 23/06/2025 09:14

None since 2012. Mostly for a combination of financial reasons and not wanting to deal with kids on long haul and the accompanying likely jet lag- no thanks!

will probably do the occasional long haul trip in the future

but I judge anyone who chooses to fly long haul multiple times a year for leisure, sorry

ever
plan one in my life

dont do short flights either - I make time to get places ethically but that’s because I have a child and I am scared for her future and will do what I can to protect it

ExtensivelyDecorating · 23/06/2025 09:15

None. It's been years since we've been outside Europe.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 23/06/2025 09:16

None. Flying is causing damage to out planet. Do better for our children.

Darker · 23/06/2025 09:17

Try to avoid flying for environmental reasons. Plenty of beautiful places close to home.

TeamGeriatric · 23/06/2025 09:18

Pre-kids most years we would do at least 2, annual leave allowance permitting. The kids don't really enjoy flying, both get motion sickness even now they are 10+, so usually we stick to Europe except when we go to visit family. There seems to be a mental barrier with travel sickness when it comes to the 4 hour mark, I have a few trips outside of Europe in mind for next year, as it's a significant birthday, and they will just have to endure. We tend to spend at least 20 days abroad per year.

To be clear the last bit is for environmental reasons

Anzena · 23/06/2025 09:21

Been there, done that when I was younger and able to do it lol 😊

Not any more. Far too much to see in Europe, it's got everything I want now that I've ticked all the usual boxes in other continents. But now I'm older I couldn't do the jetlag and the boring 12 hour or so flights + connections anymore.

Even with Europe it can take nearly the whole day point to point anyway. That's more than enough for me!

Theyreeatingthedogs · 23/06/2025 09:22

1 max. This year 1. Last year 0. 2023 1, 2022 1.

Shenmen · 23/06/2025 09:24

0.2 times a year I avoid flying as it's so bad for planet. I will go once every 5 years to see family in Vietnam.

minipie · 23/06/2025 09:29

Once a year roughly speaking

G5000 · 23/06/2025 09:29

For holidays usually one long-haul per year, otherwise will stick to Europe. But mostly as I don't want to fly 12 hours for less than 2 weeks, so if I want to also take European holidays, my work holiday allowance is not enough for more.

Normansglasseye · 23/06/2025 09:35

None. The last time I travelled abroad was to visit Florida in 1994, I haven't been abroad since. No interest in flying if I'm honest.

Plan to go to Europe when finances are better but for many years we have been taking our touring caravan around the UK and visited some beautiful places. It suits us fine.

Ollybob · 23/06/2025 09:40

Never, Turkey is the furthest I've ever been and that was for a family wedding, only ever been abroad 3 times.

3KidsPlusDdog · 23/06/2025 09:43

Never. I’ve never been outside of Europe.

We do fly to different European countries, twice a year or so

HelenCurlyBrown · 23/06/2025 09:46

Usually at least 2. We’ve been to the Caribbean this year and we’re going to Florida in a few weeks.

ObliviousCoalmine · 23/06/2025 09:46

None. I’ve done three in the last 20 years.

WhisperingTree · 23/06/2025 09:46

Once a year. But maybe have to do it twice this year because of work.

dnadiscoveryquery · 23/06/2025 09:46

Strath brag?

None now. Three in my life. (Two of which were a year each)

OldieButBaddie · 23/06/2025 09:47

What is the point of this question? Do you think 3 is too many?

atoo · 23/06/2025 09:49

At most one per year, usually zero.

TeenLifeMum · 23/06/2025 09:50

What is your holiday budget per year? Sorry to be nosey but we do one holiday abroad a year and long haul roughly every 3 years. Our week in Greece is £7k this summer (family of 5) so the number of holidays you’re suggesting sounds like the lifestyle of a multimillionaire to me.
