AirBnB - Bed no breakfast?!

Not sure whether IABU but I'm miffed! Stayed in an AirBnB last week and there was only B, no B! First time I've stayed in an AirBnB where this has happened.

We arrived 5pm too (unavoidable delays) so we're too late to head out and forage for breakfast foods, but thankfully I had packed a box of cereal from our kitchen at home so at least kids were happy. We were left 1pt of milk in the fridge. We were staying a whole 6 nights.

Is this the norm? It's literally in the name; I book an AirBnB and expect BnB. Or did I misunderstand?!

The name AirB&B doesn't guarantee breakfast (any more), no. Quite common not to have any provided, unless it's specified in the listing.

If you are staying in a bed and breakfast establishment then I'd probably expect breakfast but obviously I'd check beforehand if it was a deal breaker/necessity....it sounds like you're renting a holiday home?
(they left you a pint of milk) - did you think they'd pop in each day to cook you breakfast??

The pint of milk was a nice gesture from them so you could make a cuppa as soon as you arrived and before you've had a chance to go out to a shop.

(Were all the nearby shops all closed at 5pm?!)

despite the name air b&b is mostly a self catering affair now - I’d be astonished if breakfast was included.

Wow I've never even thought of having breakfast provided at an Airport BnB!

I’ve stayed in more than a dozen Airbnbs and never had breakfast; I thought it was just a catchy name someone had come up with?! 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

I use them loads and have never had breakfast, or expected it.

YABU. It's basically hiring a holiday home. Why would you expect breakfast unless you're staying in a hotel?

Like most, the name is a bit of a hang over from the original concept.

If you are hiring a cottage / lodge / room for a few nights it would be incredibly unlikely for the owner to be calling in to cook you breakfast. It is just a platform for people to rent out their property.

I would always take a box of essentials to any self catering place I stayed at.

Stay in better places; B&B is exactly that, bed and breakfast. Why use the term '...nb' if you're doing half a job?

If I remember rightly, AirBnB started out as people letting rooms in their homes, as a cheaper way for people to travel. I wouldn't expect breakfast now. I have stayed in a variety of places where amenities have ranged from tea and a pint of milk to a full breakfast hamper - but that was extra and prearranged.

Yes, this is your misunderstanding.

Self-catering is obviously different.

I've stayed in a few places and only one had coffee and tea and some milk powder. Airbnb 99% of the time is self catering

Who did you think was going to be cooking a breakfast for you?

I have only ever had self catering Airbnb. I can’t believe you’ve ever had breakfast.

How did you expect they'd know what you and your family would want for breakfast?
I presume the very clear Airbnb details didn't include full English? 🤣

I’ve never ever expected breakfast to be provided at an airbnb. It’s just a catchy name. It’s self-catering, unless stated specifically otherwise. YABU. Just run to the shop in the morning (or a supermarket in the eve), or even better, go out and explore and find somewhere to eat.

Quite surprised that some of you have never had breakfast in AirB&B - I have several times! But I do stay in a variety of places, from a room in somebody's house to self-catering holiday cottages so that's probably why.

One place not far from me put out a beautiful help yourself spread of fresh fruit, juices and cereals! Never had make me a cooked breakfast though. Tell a lie, maybe I've stayed in a pub via AirB&B that did cooked breakfasts. Apart from that, no.

Me too, only now am I going back through the cupboards mentally to see whether they left anything for breakfast 😂 The two latest ones we stayed at left milk but no food

An old fashioned bed and breakfast yes. But self catering airbnb? I've never had breakfast provided, at most a packet of biscuits and milk.

AirBnB is like Uber for holiday accommodation and like a lot of people use 'an Uber' when they mean a taxi, they say 'an Airbnb' when they mean a self catering apartment.

But in both cases, the supplier is usually an individual/small business, so there's no consistency as to what you'll get.

But I suppose that some hotels/B&Bs might advertise on AirBnb? But an actual B&B might be easier to find on booking.com.
