How much do you think this couple spent this year?

Cherriesfloss · 16/08/2024 16:26

  • 2 weeks long haul holiday at Easter
  • 1 week European sun holiday in May
  • 2 week European holiday this summer
  • 1 week U.K. break this summer
  • 1 U.K. city break long weekend

For 2 adults. Travelling comfortably in a nice standard of accommodation, not budget but not lavish either. So eating out at nice enough places but not champagne & oysters for every meal!

How much do you think this has all cost in total?!

OP posts:
ApplesOrangesBananas · 16/08/2024 17:47

I mean you could be spending 10K or even less… or you could be spending 75k depending on where you stay..
are you flying economy or first? Sofa surfing or staying in the Ritz Carlton.. there are so many variables it’s impossible to answer this question.

gmgnts · 16/08/2024 17:48

They must be retired or running their own successful business! I reckon £15-20000

ComealongMartha · 16/08/2024 17:49

Maybe it’s a trick question and the couple in question are geese?

HonoraBridge · 16/08/2024 17:50

£8.5k - £10.5k

invisiblecat · 16/08/2024 17:50

If it were my relative and his wife I'd guess somewhere around £50 grand. But she is fairly high-maintenance.

Fluufer · 16/08/2024 17:50

Anything from £8k and up. Bit of a pointless question as there's so many variables. Lucky you and fuck the planet I guess.

PreFabBroadBean · 16/08/2024 17:51

Is this another boomer parents spending your inheritance thread? 😂

Apfelkuchen · 16/08/2024 17:51

£15k, plus or minus £4k

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 16/08/2024 17:52

Come on, op. No need to build the tension, we're only here to say silly shit. Just tell us about your bargain holidays so we can congratulate you.

Ps I caught him for you 🐎😆

Cantdoitallperfectly · 16/08/2024 17:55

25k

LilacCadillac · 16/08/2024 17:55

£9,999

Tiredandmenopausal · 16/08/2024 17:58

Had 5 holidays abroad in 2023. A total of just over 8½ weeks.

Split into 2 x 2 weeks longhaul ( US and Mexico), and the other 3 were: Greek Islands (10 nights), Cabo Verde (2 weeks), and Malta (1 week). For 2 people, all hotels were 5 star all inclusive (except the Greek one, which was a 3 star b&b) and we spent around £25,000.

IDontDrinkTea · 16/08/2024 18:00

Probably less than I’ve spent on nursery fees in the same time period

MounjaroUser · 16/08/2024 18:00

Too many variables, OP. Why, who's done all this?

Downstreamers · 16/08/2024 18:02

It could be any amount really. They could have avios/airline loyalty vouchers, a cancellation left over from Covid and therefore paid some time ago? Might they have won a trip?

M guess is that the OP is the resident parent and this is the extent of the EXH jaunts this year… or someone criticising her choice to send their child to a private school and they’ve spent the equivalent amount on trips…. Or the jaunts of a family at school/neighbour or someone owes the OP money and is not giving it back..oh, and the OP won’t be back either.

Add your theories here 😂

LittleBearPad · 16/08/2024 18:05

Impossible to say.

What class did they fly and how many stars were the hotels etc.

Premium economy added £6k to a recent holiday. Business would have been more etc.

Barney16 · 16/08/2024 18:08

25p?

Haha you are spot on @ComealongMartha !

Why do people post such inane questions?
I've seen worse on mumsnet but still.. 😄

  • 2 weeks long haul holiday at Easter - assuming WDW so £10,000
  • 1 week European sun holiday in May - Assuming Cyprus so £2500
  • 2 week European holiday this summer - Assuming Greece so £4000
  • 1 week U.K. break this summer - Assuming Bluestone in Wales £1500
  • 1 U.K. city break long weekend - Assuming Edinburgh so £500

Total - £18,500

A fun game! Give me another.

10K would be my guess, depends on when they booked etc. If you avoid school holidays you can get some amazing deals. We recently when to Rhodes and stayed in a 5 star all inclusive hotel it cost us £3200 for 4 ppl. Now we booked only 2 months before and we had to go in the may/june half term. If we did this same holiday during term time it would only cost us £2K. So that is the difference in prices. If they are savy and plan well they cam do loads of trips in the same price that ppl with children can do maybe 2 trips. We did Rhodes and one long haul to Asia this year. It cost us 10K.

worcesterpear · 16/08/2024 18:11

2 weeks at Easter - £3500
1 week in May - £900
2 weeks in summer - £1500
1 week UK - £700
UK city break - £150

So approx £6750, not including meals out and outings.

How much do you think this couple spent this year?
Cerealkiller4U · 16/08/2024 18:14

What? Why?

skgnome · 16/08/2024 18:15

Anything between 10 and 20 k
so many variables
how “nice” is a nice hotel - my nice hotel can be someone’s idea of basic accommodation or super nice
how savy are they to book - did they got a discount on the flights
destinations make a massive difference
even eating out? All inclusive? Do they have a kitchenette?
