How much do you think this couple spent this year?

  • 2 weeks long haul holiday at Easter
  • 1 week European sun holiday in May
  • 2 week European holiday this summer
  • 1 week U.K. break this summer
  • 1 U.K. city break long weekend

For 2 adults. Travelling comfortably in a nice standard of accommodation, not budget but not lavish either. So eating out at nice enough places but not champagne & oysters for every meal!

How much do you think this has all cost in total?!

Nosey but interesting thread nonetheless. I reckon £8000 with some planning and getting good deals. . Otherwise , if not budget conscious then could be about £12,000. Op needs to let us know and put us out of our misery!.

invisiblecat · 17/08/2024 18:28

OP still not returned to the thread then?

Quelle surprise. Hmm

BunnyLake · 17/08/2024 18:31

OP hadn’t bothered returning, seems a bit pointless to keep adding guesses.

Sillyname63 · 17/08/2024 19:18

We will never know🤷🙄

Nightjar33 · 17/08/2024 19:41

Depends if they go luxury or budget

littledragon99 · 17/08/2024 19:55

£12-15k

TheMerryTiger · 17/08/2024 20:10

I'm not sure the point of this ...

greykimono5 · 17/08/2024 20:14

Pointless thread if we’re never going to be enlightened!

Itislate · 17/08/2024 20:20

I hope they enjoyed it whatever it cost - are you worried that your parents are spending your inheritance 😂

deste · 17/08/2024 21:17

Unless they were travel agents!!!

JennyBG · 17/08/2024 21:26

I’ve absolutely no idea.
Why hasn’t OP responded after 10!! pages worth of replies
Does it matter, is it even any of our business?

Carebearsonmybed · 17/08/2024 21:33

£11k

Pipsquiggle · 17/08/2024 21:35

@Cherriesfloss are you coming back?

NAndJIsLockingDown · 16/08/2024 17:05

This looks pretty similar what we did pre-covid, except we stayed in 5*s and travelled first class.

Our total spend was usually around £50k, so I'd price your itinerary at around £20k.

The only way you could do all that for £50k, is if your First Class was on the train! The LH fortnight would be £30k alone. Long haul first roughly £8-10k each and nice 5* £7-800 a night.

shiningstar2 · 18/08/2024 08:47

We could do it for £10k but eating out every day rather than hotel would raise that a bit I would think. Also difficult as no indication of what they like doing. If they are paying for a lot of entrance fees ...art galleries/music/history that would up the price as well. If some of the holidays are mainly back based there isn't so much extra expenditure once they've paid for travel and accommodation.

Takoneko · 18/08/2024 09:42

@shiningstar2 I agree about eating out.

I don’t see how people coming up with figures in the £6-8k range can have accounted for the eating out that the OP talks about.

You might be able to get flights and accommodation for the £6-8k range just about but eating out is a significant cost.

I was in a European country this summer and a main meal out was about £30 each for a main meal and one drink. Lunch was about £10 each in light bite places. Breakfast was a few pounds each in the supermarket. If this couple did similar for 45 days that comes to £3870 for eating out. Maybe if they were in cheaper countries for some of the time they might be able to get the average down to £25 per day each but that’s still £2250.

Like you say attractions and activities can also really add up depending on what they like doing.

I don’t think we’re ever going to get the answer though so this speculation all feels frustratingly pointless now.

Retiredearly61 · 18/08/2024 12:19

It definitely is how long is a piece of string. We’ve just booked a winter sun holiday. Booking cheap flights and direct with hotel saved 318. Exact same dates and exact same hotel (will probably get a better positioned room by booking direct) Only difference was less luggage which we didn’t need.

Same with eating out , in June we had meals with drinks from 38 euro for two up to 100 Euro for two. If I want to make it cheaper I eat chicken rather than steak and drink beer rather than cocktails or wine.

We regularly do 5 separate weeks in Europe for a total of 8 grand including all spends and we always stay in nice accommodation.

PeachyPeachTrees · 18/08/2024 17:36

£15k?
OP do you know how much or wanting a guess?

YellowphantGrey · 18/08/2024 19:16

Was any of it during school holidays?
