I flew today for the first time since lockdown and I think I can safely say that lockdown has definitely made people less considerate of others.

We had a kid with a slide whistle. Both parents had headphones on!!

And a father and son who kept play fighting behind us. Why do grown ass dads insist on riling up kids play fighting!

Mother putting their toddler on a potty on the spare seat recently vacated by passenger visiting the loo. On arriving back to her seat she was furious and asked to be moved.

Other mother had stripped toddler of all bottom half of clothes only leaving t shirt on toddler. Cabin crew were angry.

BA business where someone's PA asked me to swap seats so she could sit next to the over entitled exec sitting next to me.

I said no, main reason, he was right there, right next to me but make his PA ask me instead.

Fly 6 times a year.
Only lock down stopped us.
Just got back three days ago from Cyprus
It's the airports that are worse.
We usually fly from a very small airport.. but this time a bigger one.. my gosh the entitled people..
Leaving cases in way.
Shouting to each other.
Leaving rubbish on seats when sat near a bin.
Shoving and pushing in queues.
I'm in a wheelchair for special assistance and yet people still won't let me through.
Once on the plane ( with my crutches) there is a fight to get to the over head lockers .. because they want their cases right above their seats... so they move your stuff out of the way.
Some guy took my crutches out and put them like 10 seats away.. l asked him to put them back.. he said " well you won't need them until you get off the plane".
I said.. " well are you going to carry me to the loo then".
The cabin crew saw ..brought them back and had words with him.

The amount of litter left when we got off was insane!

Please note... I always booked seats on the plane when travelling with my small children!

It was an evening flight that got delayed. Mostly business travellers rather than tourists.
DD2 (then 5yo) had fallen asleep waiting for boarding. So I just let her sleep rather than standing and joining the queue until it was towards the end... we only had underseat bags anyway, so no worries about lockers. I carried DD2, DD1 (6yo) carried the small bags.

Got on board... to find our seats occupied by businessmen "because they needed to sit together to work". They were not happy about having to move... to two seats across the aisle from each other.

If sitting together was so important... why not book? My seat reservations had only cost a few pounds

The man who played his music loudly, without headphones on a flight departing at 2am from Kuala Lumpur. It’s possible that he thought because this was in business class that he was entitled to do as he wanted but it was so thoughtless and selfish, everyone in the cabin was trying to sleep. He did turn it off but then turned it on again, which was the point at which I complained to the crew and he was spoken to quite sharply. Absolute cretin.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 29/05/2024 18:01

Parents who give their children a tablet or a phone to watch TV on..... with the sound up without headphones!!!!!! Why??? This goes for trains and buses as well!

MaryFuckingFerguson · 29/05/2024 18:05

On a long flight recently. Woman behind me entertained herself FOR HOURS playing the games on the seat back screen. Aggressively. So I was constantly aware of every hard jab on the back of my seat. I wanted to kill her and the twat that thought these games are a good idea on a seat back.

I could actually write a paper on Selfish Idiots on Planes. I have encountered so many.

Bjorkdidit · 30/05/2024 09:50

The child who would not stop kicking the back of my seat. To be fair his dad did keep telling him to not kick the seat.

At one point I actually turned around, smiled at him and said 'please Alex, do what your dad says and stop kicking the seat' which shocked him a bit.

But then when we were getting him off, I actually heard his parents praising him 'for being such a good boy during the flight' Hmm.

I suppose I should be grateful that he wasn't running up and down the aisle screaming and banging into everyone, with C Beebies playing at full volume.

LittleTalkingMan · 04/06/2024 10:45

Flew back today and the couple in front of us reclined their seats as soon as the seatbelt sign went off. This was an especially tiny spaced flight and my husband is 6ft 4. We did ask them not to and they completely blanked us.

The family behind us took the biscuit though. The mum had two kids who kicked the back of our seats, flapped the table up and down. Then the little one whacked the back of my daughters chair with a Pringle tube repeatedly. The mum had very poor English skills and the two kids spoke English. They were completely blanking her requests to behave and the father who was sat across the aisle didn’t bat an eyelid at their behaviour. They were fed sweets for the entire 4 hour flight so were absolutely riled by the time we landed.

DD flying home 5 days post-op from major spinal surgery. First class seats, disabled assistance booked and airline aware. Parents behind allowed their child to kick her seat for the entire hour long flight, despite numerous requests from both me and the cabin crew to control their little darling. I would never allow my child to behave like that in a million years, never mind when it was causing someone in an obviously vulnerable position huge amounts of pain

This always This. Last time I flew a man in his 50s sat watching absolute crap on you tube with no headphones. Luckily I had mine but It was horrendous.

Slightly off topic, but the poor chap who died before we even left the gate, causing the flight to be delayed. Very sad indeed. Even the pilot said he’d never experienced it before.

MermaidEyes · 04/06/2024 11:27

Without doubt, the worst are always the kids screaming/tantruming/crying/kicking seats and generally misbehaving while their parents do fuck all. My kids always sat quietly at a young age, with toys or tablets. It's really not that hard beyond toddler age.
Last year there was a couple sat behind with 3 kids. Older two were keeping themselves entertained. Poor mum spent 4 whole hours trying to keep toddler quiet and distracted. Meanwhile, dad sat in the window seat, put his headphones on and went to sleep....
Oh, and mustn't forget the woman doing yoga in the middle of the aisle while cabin crew were constantly trying to get past.

Flight to South Africa a few years ago. So large plane, plenty of space for luggage in the overhead lockers. As I had BA Bronze membership we were entitled to earlier boarding, so had settled in our seats. Stuff I didn't need in my backpack above my seat.

South African family, with early-20s daughter boards towards the end of boarding, all with very large hand baggage/cases. By now, overhead lockers are pretty full. So the daughter takes my backpack and removes it from the locker to put somewhere else!

She was quite shocked when I told her to put it back. "But I've got nowhere to put my bag now!" was her response. I just ignored that and went back to my book.

mitogoshi · 04/06/2024 11:40

Kids kicking the back of the seat are annoying but I was also fed up by the guy who on a night flight pressed the audible call button at least every 20 minutes for more whiskey, then 2/3 of the way to the Middle East started singing to himself. Each time I drifted off I heard the bing sound and woke up, then the singing ... crew seemed unable or unwilling to tell him to stop. Particularly annoying as I had a 6 hour onward flight.

What is wrong with humans?

What is wrong with humans?

Unfortunately a huge number of them are inconsiderate arseholes and when you're cooped up in a tin box with them for several hours it becomes very apparent.

Gymmum82 · 04/06/2024 12:02

Mother who allowed her approx 2 year old to jump up and down on the seat repeatedly for over an hour like a trampoline. Even held his hands and encouraged him to do it

MangosteenSoda · 04/06/2024 12:07

A guy in the row behind us did the absolutely most smelliest fart I have ever encountered. We were gagging. His little boy dropped him right in it though when he announced excitedly, ‘that’s my daddy, my daddy made that smell’. It was then doubly awful because we were laughing, but trying oh so hard not to breathe.

TinyYellow · 04/06/2024 12:07

There’s nothing wrong with refining seats when the seatbelt sign goes off.

I get annoyed when people in front let their small children stand on the seat and stare at the person behind, especially when parents look at you as if you’re a monster for not wanting to engage with them.

Hoppinggreen · 04/06/2024 12:15

Recent flight back from Portugal.
Kid in front was a bit annoying but nothing major until he did a huge stinky poo in his nappy and instead of changing it both parents (who definitely knew) ignored it until the kid loudly announced it. Instead of changing him they spent 20 minutes arguing about whose turn it was up until the point the seatbelt sign came on and they couldn't do it until landing.
I have 2 DC of my own (now teens) so appreciate that poop smells but this was so bad poor DD was retching and DS was sniffing a roll on deo.

FUBAR77 · 04/06/2024 12:15

Man sat in the row two rows in front of us - STANK seriously reeked of the worst BO I have ever smelt, and just sat there with his hands behind his head in a ‘smell me more’ kind of way.
