I flew today for the first time since lockdown and I think I can safely say that lockdown has definitely made people less considerate of others.

We had a kid with a slide whistle. Both parents had headphones on!!

And a father and son who kept play fighting behind us. Why do grown ass dads insist on riling up kids play fighting!

I had the total perfect hand of nightmare travellers last time I flew (it was Ryan air tbf, but that was the only option from the small rural airport nearest to our holiday accommodation.
i had the arguing couple, the screaming, filled nappy baby, the toddler watching peppa pig without earphones, and then quite sadly a lovely young lad who was leaving his mum from a different very civilised country and coming to live with his dad in the shittiest area of our local big city. Poor sod.

Mother who allowed her approx 2 year old to jump up and down on the seat repeatedly for over an hour like a trampoline. Even held his hands and encouraged him to do it

This child has no chance in life 🤦🏼‍♀️

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 04/06/2024 19:51

I don't think you can expect people not to recline.

If it's such an issue for you then pay for an extra legroom seat or upgrade.

Blueberry40 · 04/06/2024 19:54

I’ll never forget one particular flight, wedged between one man who clearly had some quite extreme digestive issues and was farting non stop and another who spent the entire flight scrolling through porn on his phone. It was pure hell!

I'd have hoped the seats were far enough apart in first that you couldn't kick the seat in front!!

How terrible for your dd. I'd have been tempted to get up and kick the kid. Or he could have moved to behind you so he was kicking the back of your seat instead??

Unfortunately this was only a short British Airways domestic flight - the only real difference between first and economy is a little curtain and a tray in the middle seat space 🤣 Very glad to say that we weren’t the ones paying for it!

FloralMonster · 04/06/2024 20:25

A woman sat in front of me, extra leg room, no seats in front of her, I was in a middle seat behind her sat inbetween two big guys.
The woman in front decides to recline her seat back, fine…. but she didn’t put it back up when the food came round. I was a lot younger (early 20s) & didn’t say anything at first, but eventually plucked up the courage to ask her if she could put her seat up whilst I was eating - she just gave me a dirty look , put some headphones on and ignored me.

I felt a bit embarrassed so just left it….
I did, however ‘accidentally’ bang the back of her chair a few times as well as bump the back of the headrest when I got up to use the toilet, she was sleeping at the time & it woke her up.

Petty but satisfying all the same.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/06/2024 20:26

The woman who contorted and clipped her toenails sat at her seat - bits flying everywhere (ages ago when nail clippers were allowed).

costahotchocolatesaremyweakness · 04/06/2024 20:43

My 8 week old baby who farted incessantly on a 6 hour flight. Both loud and smelly. I swear everyone thought we were just cropdusting the whole plane. Horrendous and mortifying. No more broccoli while breastfeeding after that!

Sago1 · 04/06/2024 20:43

The two twenty somethings who sat in front of on a flight back from Italy, one of them had shit himself.
Not sure which one, they were both clearly hanging.
The smell was dreadful, a poor Italian lady was sat next to them.

FakeMiddleton · 04/06/2024 21:17

I was but a country mouse of a teenager and flying London to Singapore on my own. For some nuts reason, the check in lady parked me between two adult men. They were also quite large. Fine she doesn't know their physical size.

Anyhoo, there was I, on my period, stuck in the centre seat on a night flight, too timid to go to the bathroom and wake one guy up and also panicking I was leaking through...on a 13 hour flight.

Not all men and blah blah blah, but wtf parks a teenage girl travelling solo between two men on a night flight?!

The woman who thought it OK to read a broad sheet newspaper by resting it on my head on the seat in front of her. Ashamed to say that after asking her to stop it twice, when she did it for the third time, I reached up, pulled it forward and screwed it up.

Superb😂

Recent 4hr flights. Both ways, the dirty women, yes 2 different women, sat behind us thought it was acceptable to put their dirty bare feet between our seats.

dirty dirty bitches

I had that on a flight back from Turkey with a crustie couple sat in the row behind me. The boyfriend sat in the middle seat while the girlfriend in the window seat placed her head on his lap and then propped her feet up in the gap between my head rest and the window. Her feet were disgustingly smelly and dirty and inches from my face. They were there for about three seconds.

Judellie · 04/06/2024 21:40

Glad I don't fly very much reading these! WHY would you take your shoes off on the plane fgs.
We were literally taxiing to take off from Schipol on Sunday, the cbin crew had been instructed to take their seats, and some drunk bloke stood up and set off down the aisle!
The cabin crew man literally boomed 'Sir, Please take your seat. Sir, sit DOWN!"

GettingStuffed · 04/06/2024 21:55

NotMeNoNo · 04/06/2024 12:38

DH is very tall - 6ft 6. Flying JFK to UK we could not get an exit row for him so tried front row of economy hoping it might have a smidgin more legroom. Unfortunately economy plus person in front insisted on reclining their seat fully so it was literally crushing DH knees. He ended up standing in the aisle and then swapping with me as the person refused to adjust their seat and cabin crew would not intervene. I think reclining seat is an option not a right if you are actually hurting or endangering the person behind you. Delta Airlines, never again.

We had something similar when we were going from JFK to Barbados. My son was at the time around 6'4" and a no8 so built like a brick outhouse, the bloke in front reclined onto DS' knees so DS shoved his knees into the back of the seat, the bloke eventually put his seat into sitting position for a bit and then reclined again so once again DS kneed the back of the chair. The bloke then turned around obviously to say something until he saw the size of DS and that was the last time he reclined.

On most planes this wouldn't have been a problem but I've never flown in such small legroom seats. My knees just about touched the seat in front.

Parents who give their children a tablet or a phone to watch TV on..... with the sound up without headphones!!!!!! Why??? This goes for trains and buses as well!

And restaurants, too. So bloody selfish and entitled. No, I don't want to listen to Peppa Pig on repeat whilst I'm paying to eat here.

ElinorDashwood68 · 04/06/2024 22:18

On a night flight returning to the UK from the US. Soon after take off I noticed the business man in the seat in front took off his shoes and placed them in my footwell so I couldn't stretch out properly.

I was livid so just kicked them into the aisle. By the time we landed his shoes were no where to be seen. I just glared at him!

DecafCanEffOff · 04/06/2024 22:46

Flight from Germany to Serbia on Ryanair. A couple changed their baby’s nappy IN THEIR SEATS. They used two tray tables as a makeshift changing table. The smell was unreal - people were choking and retching - and I have always antibacterial wiped my seat and tray table ever since.

Flew back today and the couple in front of us reclined their seats as soon as the seatbelt sign went off. This was an especially tiny spaced flight and my husband is 6ft 4. We did ask them not to and they completely blanked us.

The family behind us took the biscuit though. The mum had two kids who kicked the back of our seats, flapped the table up and down. Then the little one whacked the back of my daughters chair with a Pringle tube repeatedly. The mum had very poor English skills and the two kids spoke English. They were completely blanking her requests to behave and the father who was sat across the aisle didn’t bat an eyelid at their behaviour. They were fed sweets for the entire 4 hour flight so were absolutely riled by the time we landed.

I think There’s nothing wrong with reclining seats when the seatbelt sign goes off especially if its long haul flight. If you are tall please booked seats with extra legroom.

Femme2804 · 04/06/2024 23:02

I dont understand complaining about reclining seat. I am frequent ultra long haul flight. My hometown its 18 hours flight from UK and i go back home once or twice a year. Everyone recline their seat except for mealtimes. I really dont have any idea people find it annoying to recline seat. I cant imagine 18 hours flight with straight as hell airplane seats 😅

Switcher · 04/06/2024 23:10

I have no idea what the issue is with reclining seats. Blame the airline for the tiny amount of room but if the seat reclines, why can't I recline it. Everyone else can also recline it. Or pay 3k in business.

myladybelle · 04/06/2024 23:24

ohtowinthelottery · 04/06/2024 15:52

Flight to Lanzarote last year. Young couple and toddler in the seats opposite side of aisle to us in a row of 3. They changed the toddler's nappy on the seats no less than 5 times in a 4 hour flight. Why fgs? Nappies should be changed in the toilets, but why so many times in that timescale?

DH (6ft 4) has also suffered from the selfish, seat reclining passenger. Midday 2 1/2 hr flight and DH spent most of it pushing the seat in front upright every time the woman tried to recline it. She either didn't speak English or pretended not to, but she couldn't have failed to understand why DH didn't want his knees crushed either way!

Actually your DH is awful

Danioyellow · 04/06/2024 23:25

An idiot with a heart condition who needed to take time critical medication every x amount of hours. He packed his life preserving medication in his suitcase which was put in the hold. Now I know he’d done this on purpose and not accidentally as we were staying at the same hotel with him and his wife in Tenerife, and we HEARD the conversation on the transfer bus between him and his wife whether he should keep the medication on him. After being kicked out of our rooms at 10am, sat in the hotel just waiting for the bus that was at 6pm, an almost 2 hour transfer and arriving at the airport for our flights 4 hours early, plus the 4 and a half hour flight finally landing in Manchester around 5am with a toddler and a baby. We were told we weren’t allowed off the plane as this man was having a medial episode due to not taking his medication, and we needed to keep the aisle clear for the paramedics to arrive and treat him and get him off first. I don’t even know what time we were eventually let off. Now I know he didn’t mean to have a heart attack, but he was practically asking for that to happen 🤦🏼‍♀️

shittestusernameever · 04/06/2024 23:26

I feel awful for saying this and I've never said it out loud

I was on the way back from turkey and I was wedged between two large men. One was extremely hairy and very sweaty. They lifted the arm rests up to make it more comfortable for each other so I was a sandwich.

The hairy man's arm hairs kept touching me, tickling my arm. They also smelt of body odour and day old booze and fags (if you know the smell) awful!

They were so nice that I feel guilty even writing this but that's the worst flight I have ever been on.

Guavafish1 · 04/06/2024 23:31

British Airways

Irrate middle class behaviour due to chair reclining.

momager1 · 04/06/2024 23:33

I fly on 6-8 flights a year..all budget airlines from dominican republic to toronto and back. I always pay extra and book an aisle seat because of a bowel surgery that means if i need to get to the bathroom, I need it right away and do not want to disturb anyone. Last flight 7 weeks ago.. a gentleman was in the middle seat and asked If I would change with his girlfriend, only two rows away.. I asked what seat. Had it been aisle I would have changed no problem. It was window. I said no. I explained why I needed and paid to preselect aisle. He was an ass to me the rest of the trip. Uggh. Thank god for headphones.
