Family rooms allocated with ignorance

Maybe naive but when booking a family room in a hotel with 2 twins under 2 and room for 2 travel cots you would surely expect a room with bath and not shower? You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots. An offer of 'renting' a baby bath added insult to injury to deal with 2 babies and fill it from a shower...Sadly a full hotel and no alternative and unapologetic over a stay cut short and no discount. So it may should silly but double check the room will have a bath when booking stays. I so want to let rip on Trip Advisor but dont want to be blacklisted to stay again minus grandchildren as a very unique resort.

Lots of hotels these days have showers in the bathroom instead of baths. You’ve made the mistake not checking the room type before you’ve booked. It’s not the hotel’s fault so why you think they should offer you discount and apologise is beyond belief. You want to “let rip” on Tripadvisor because if your own mistake? Very odd!

CanOfGerms · 31/12/2023 04:24

I’d hazard a guess that most hotels and homes worldwide have showers not baths, for families or otherwise.

FiveShelties · 31/12/2023 04:31

If you want a bath, then surely that is your responsibility to check there is one. Baths are pretty rare now, much more likely to get a shower in most hotels.

HoppingPavlova · 31/12/2023 04:32

Why is this a big deal? You say ‘twins under 2yo’ so presumably they can reliably sit up? We used to wash ours by plonking them on the floor of the shower when we showered as much easier than the faff of a bath, that was a special occasion in our house. You can still give them little bath toys to play with in the shower and it amuses them while you shower. I certainly wouldn’t get upset and wrote a bad review of a place that didn’t have a bath!

Singsonggsu · 31/12/2023 04:40

YABU OP. You should never assume or expect anything. I think it’s very unreasonable of you to say the hotel staff are idiots. If a room with a bath is a non negotiable for you then you need to make it very clear in your booking. Did you make it clear? If not, you’ll make yourself look like an idiot if you publicly complain/leave a bad review because you messed up your booking.

CuriousGeorge80 · 31/12/2023 04:43

Was it outside the UK? If so, it’s very common to not have a bath in a hotel room.

LenaLamont · 31/12/2023 04:44

Sorry, OP, that’s on you. It’s very common to only have showers, so it’s a detail you should have checked if it was important to you.

MrsJamin · 31/12/2023 04:48

I don't see why this is such a big deal, honestly. Kids don't need loads of baths, you can hold them in the shower to wash them if they're particularly dirty?

BFG2023 · 31/12/2023 04:53

Agree its up to the booker to check facilities, and your outrage is misplaced.

We didn't have a bath for the first 3 years of having DS. When he was very tiny we washed him in the sink, and then sat him in the shower tray when he was able to sit.

pizzaHeart · 31/12/2023 04:54

How was the room described at the moment of booking?
if it was “bath or shower “ you were unreasonable to expect a bath but if it was described as “having a bath” it would be a logical expectation.
I wouldn’t call hotel staff idiots, they just allocate available rooms and it’s difficult to assume about everything as everyone has different needs. It’s like you shouldn’t assume that disabled person means using wheelchair and the same principle- you shouldn’t assume that every 2 y.o prefers bath to shower.

MrSand · 31/12/2023 04:58

Yes, you do sound silly. I wouldn't have expected or wanted a bath.

BFG2023 · 31/12/2023 04:59

Did you actually leave early because of the bath situation, or for another reason? Because that seems quite a disproportionate action to take.

Ladyj84 · 31/12/2023 05:00

Are you joking, the majority of hotels have showers. It's up to you to check if the room will have a bath. Never had a problem with our twins and single we always take our own baby bath with us

Goldensunnydays81 · 31/12/2023 05:07

We didn’t even have a a bath at home until ds was over a year old most of the time just took him in the shower with us occasionally put his baby bath in the bottom of the shower! Even once we did get a bath he rarely had them! So don’t really think it is such a big deal.

Passingthethyme · 31/12/2023 05:09

Agree with PP. The rooms I've had with baths have been in extremely expensive 5 star resorts, definitely not aimed at families! Sorry OP, you're out of touch (and definitely should've done your research!)

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 31/12/2023 05:09

I have a child under 2 - but honestly most days taking her into the shower with me is faster and easier. 100% your fault for A) not checking the room had a bath B) contacting the hotel and politely requesting a bath

If you need to be angry then walk up to a mirror as it’s that person’s fault

NumberTheory · 31/12/2023 05:17

While I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have a shower instead of a bath, charging for the baby bath, instead of just offering, it is really poor.

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 31/12/2023 05:25

If you decided to cut your stay short over there being no bath that's on you. Unless there's some medical issue lots of people can and do shower with young kids. If I want anything specific I check the listing to see if the room has what I need. You can buy collapsible baby baths for travelling and put it on the floor of the shower.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/12/2023 05:29

My DC under 2 showers more often than bathes.

I would never assume that there was a bath rather than a shower.

Unfortunately, OP, the answer is yes, you were naive. Live and learn.

Itwasafterallallaboutme · 31/12/2023 05:31

All older Premier Inns have baths. I understand that you might prefer a higher class of establishment, but I am disabled so we nearly always stay in Premier Inns as there is nearly always a standard of cleanliness and comfortableness that they don't fall below!

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/12/2023 05:32

I think having a bath in a hotel bathroom is the exception now. I'm always surprised to find one.

amylou8 · 31/12/2023 05:36

I can't remember ever staying in a hotel room with a bath, it's certainly not the norm. Can your nearly 2 year olds not stand in the shower? I think if you need a bath the onus is on you to check the hotel have them, and request one on booking.

BlackberrySky · 31/12/2023 05:37

We always stayed in self catering apartments when mine were young, partly so we could be guaranteed a bath. As PP have said, many hotels don't have baths at all, so you really can't assume they will.

AGoingConcern · 31/12/2023 05:44

This was user error. We all forget or don't think to check things like this from time to time but raging about the staff for not psychically anticipating your family's specific needs isn't reasonable.

Many families don't care if there's a bath or shower for a holiday stay and some (like myself) need or want a shower not a tub/shower combo. It's my responsibility to make sure that my reservation includes a shower for my accessibility needs, including communicating directly with the hotel/resort if needs be.

WaltzingWaters · 31/12/2023 05:48

Certainly not the norm to have a bath in a hotel room, actually often quite the luxury add on these days. I’d always check if that’s important to you. Just by saying you have two children under 2 with you certainly doesn’t entitle you to a room with a bath unless that’s specifically what you’ve booked.

You can also just shower the children. If they’re old enough to sit up safely just sit them in the shower, if not, hold them. Admittedly not very easy if there are two babies/toddlers and only one adult (if that were the case). Or take a baby bath with you. I’ve done this when on a longer trip and I’ve known there won’t be a bath.

But sorry, this was on you, not the hotels fault.
