Family rooms allocated with ignorance

Maybe naive but when booking a family room in a hotel with 2 twins under 2 and room for 2 travel cots you would surely expect a room with bath and not shower? You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots. An offer of 'renting' a baby bath added insult to injury to deal with 2 babies and fill it from a shower...Sadly a full hotel and no alternative and unapologetic over a stay cut short and no discount. So it may should silly but double check the room will have a bath when booking stays. I so want to let rip on Trip Advisor but dont want to be blacklisted to stay again minus grandchildren as a very unique resort.

Did you really cut your stay short because it didn't have a bath 😱 you can wash them in other ways!

RiderofRohan · 31/12/2023 07:11

It's not the hotels fault you didn't read the room description or pick up that phone to ask. Be an adult and own your own mistake. Learn from it and move on.

TerfTalking · 31/12/2023 07:14

Like a pp said, take them in the shower with you. If really tiny put them in the sink.

StampOnTheGround · 31/12/2023 07:16

Abroad hotels have always only had a shower, it's actually much quicker than a bath.

I've never stayed in a UK hotel with DS, always our own place and it has had a bath but I wouldn't expect hotels to have one and also couldn't care less if they did or didn't.

YABU.

Sodndashitall · 31/12/2023 07:18

My niece hates baths with a passion (she's 2) and only really likes showers.
If something is important ... check it ! Why on earth do you think it's hotel staff responsibility?! They didn't build the hotel. The rooms were all pre allocated presumably as they weren't able to switch you another so YABVU!

MsSquiz · 31/12/2023 07:20

What is the problem with filling a baby bath in the shower? We did that in turkey when our youngest was 6 months and it worked fine...

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 31/12/2023 07:26

@Thepossibility this is genius and I wish I'd thought of it two children ago!

MaidOfSteel · 31/12/2023 07:27

Calling the staff idiots is appalling. I hope you weren't rude to them in person. This was your mistake.

Getamoveon36 · 31/12/2023 07:28

I would not expect a bath. YABU.

Hercisback · 31/12/2023 07:34

This will blow your mind OP but my kids have showered from birth.

Your mistake.

Sirzy · 31/12/2023 07:34

You expected money back because you didn’t check if the room had a bath? Surely if something is that important you check?

LinnieM · 31/12/2023 07:36

If you need a bath, you either request a room with a bath (if that’s an option) or you make sure the room details states that there is a bath.

Expecting them to go, ‘oh look, there’s two toddlers, we need to give them a room with a bath’ and calling then idiots because they haven’t done that is strange

Sweethearte · 31/12/2023 07:38

Yabu, i would not expect a bath at all and could wash the kids in a shower. You want a bath? Check before you book.

IncompleteSenten · 31/12/2023 07:38

The only thing I'd expect is that I'd need to check.

quisensoucie · 31/12/2023 07:38

Was this a Premier Inn? They can't tell the difference between a double bed and twin beds

Tooearlytothink · 31/12/2023 07:39

Blumarine · 31/12/2023 06:34

You must be quite old? Nobody baths babies any more nowadays. Mine have gone in the shower since birth, I just held them under the warm water. I wouldn’t expect or want a bath in a hotel.

What an utterly bizarre comment. Our 4mo dd has a bath every evening & most of our friends with babies bath theirs too. My friend who is a nanny also baths her charges.

cheerfulsunday · 31/12/2023 07:39

You can't ask for a discount because you didn't have a bath 😂 you obviously should have checked. If they are 6mo+ then can't they just sit in the shower?

However, suggesting you rent a baby bath is a very weird offer from the hotel, that should be free, a bit like borrowing charger!

Caspianberg · 31/12/2023 07:42

No I wouldn’t expect a bath. Hotels are mainly showers nowadays. They are more water efficient for costs and environmental, and take up less space.

We rent a ‘family friendly’ cottage out. It has one large wall in shower. No bath. We offer a free baby bath for under 2s, but no one has ever taken up the offer and uses the shower.

My own toddler has showered since birth 95% of the time. He only has a bath occasionally for playing. It’s more of a faff and takes ages

Redglitter · 31/12/2023 07:43

OP hasnt been back. I dont think this thread went how she expected

Definitelylivedin · 31/12/2023 07:44

How rude of you to call the staff idiots just because you didn't specify your requirements.

StampOnTheGround · 31/12/2023 07:50

OP won't be back as she's realised she's the 'idiot' after these responses. That was so rude calling them idiots, I hadn't noticed that bit initially, I hope you kept these tj

Thoughts to yourself and didn't mention it to them!

I can't remember ever staying in a hotel room with a bath, it's certainly not the norm. Can your nearly 2 year olds not stand in the shower? I think if you need a bath the onus is on you to check the hotel have them, and request one on booking.

I’m surprised at people saying this. All Premier Inns, Travelodges, Hiltons and every other hotel I’ve stayed in over the past few years have had a bath. Not great for me as I have a disability and would prefer a shower but I rarely get a separate one.

Viviennemary · 31/12/2023 07:59

I do think it's annoying when a room has a shower only. But these days you do have to check. I dont think hotels can be expected to anticipate needs. Some smaller houses and flats have no baths and only a shower.
