Family rooms allocated with ignorance

Maybe naive but when booking a family room in a hotel with 2 twins under 2 and room for 2 travel cots you would surely expect a room with bath and not shower? You live and learn that sometimes you deal with idiots. An offer of 'renting' a baby bath added insult to injury to deal with 2 babies and fill it from a shower...Sadly a full hotel and no alternative and unapologetic over a stay cut short and no discount. So it may should silly but double check the room will have a bath when booking stays. I so want to let rip on Trip Advisor but dont want to be blacklisted to stay again minus grandchildren as a very unique resort.

When mine were absolutely tiny I would bring my own tub anyway (we drive to all of our holidays when the kids were tiny tiny). Now that they’re older I still check whether a tub is provided. Both of mine didn’t like water in their eyes till they’re quite a bit older so a shower with a fixed shower head is not an option

I can’t imagine cutting a break short because you refuse to pay to rent a tub though…. Surely the tub rental was only very cheap compared to the accommodation costs

Lokipokey1 · 31/12/2023 08:05

I really hope the OP was not as rude TO the staff as she was ABOUT them!

TurquoiseSeasAndSilverSand · 31/12/2023 08:07

I thought the same. Never had a hotel room that didn't have a bath with a shower over. Another example of Mumsnet seemingly existing in another universe.
I hate baths normally, but after a day walking and sight seeing its quite nice to have a soak when I get back to the hotel, but I've never had to request a room with a bath.

Riverlee · 31/12/2023 08:07

When you book a room, doesn’t it give its description?

BendingSpoons · 31/12/2023 08:10

I does seem logical to offer a bath but hardly a deal breaker. We mostly showered with our kids when they were small even though we had a bath, same as you would at swimming. Although I appreciate a bit harder with 2. I understand the annoyance but surely this is something you can work around? It was a bit cheeky they presumably wanted you to pay for the baby bath though.

Xmasbaby11 · 31/12/2023 08:11

We've always had a bath (with a shower overhead) in our hotel bathroom if we have a family room - this is largely Premier Inn. I can't remember if it was stated or if we just assumed.

It's annoying but I think just a lesson to clarify what you're getting before your stay.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 31/12/2023 08:12

Yabu, unless the listing and photos stated I should expect a bath.

Lots of people have children and no bath.

A baby bath would fill pretty quickly from a decent shower.

tokesqueen · 31/12/2023 08:17

Use the shower then. No biggie.
You don't sound like one of lifes copers OP.

AloneIsGood · 31/12/2023 08:19

When we stayed in an apartment with a one year old and no bath, we had a generous sized kitchen sink. Just washed it out well and bathed them in there. Worked very well and was a really good height for bathing them.

QuillBill · 31/12/2023 08:20

It's not silly to check for a feature in a hotel room that you feel you absolutely need.

TinyYellow · 31/12/2023 08:20

Yes, it was naive and ignorant of you to assume that jut because you’d booked travel vita you’d automatically be given a room with a bath. This is 100% on you. Honestly, it doesn’t take a genius to think about your room requirements and then check that the place you’re booking matches them.

Denimdenimdenim · 31/12/2023 08:22

At the hotels I've stayed at this year it's mostly showers. If you pay for a grander room then a bath is usually advertised as a bonus to the room package.

Sorry, OP. I understand the frustration but it's definitely the norm.

InTheRainOnATrain · 31/12/2023 08:24

Lots of kids shower. Lots of hotel rooms have big walk in showers rather than baths. If you specifically want a bath then you need to ask for it; you cannot expect the hotel to be psychic. if it’s a beach resort I would always shower mine as it’s the best way to get the sand off. If it’s skiing I’d probably request a bath, for myself as much as the kids! Unless the description of the hotel room specifically stated ‘bath’ you’re completely in the wrong I’m afraid. Especially as they offered a baby bath for rent so did their best to help.

Pocodaku · 31/12/2023 08:24

Showers are much more common than baths in hotel rooms. I don’t think you can blame the hotel for this; you should have checked if this was a non-negotiable requirement for you.

hopeishere · 31/12/2023 08:25

Let rip because you didn't check there would be a bath?? And as everyone says just put them in the shower!

abdlfp · 31/12/2023 08:29

Goodness me OP it's embarrassing how out of touch you are, twins are definitely PFBs, bung them in the shower 😂

MagentaRocks · 31/12/2023 08:30

I expect the rooms are allocated by computer and only checked if you actually request something.

rookiemere · 31/12/2023 08:31

Poor hotel .
Did you actually ask for a bath ? No I don't suppose you did.

FluffyFanny · 31/12/2023 08:33

2 twins? Is that 4 children then?

TempyBrennan · 31/12/2023 08:34

You sounds ridiculous? How on earth were the staff supposed to know you really wanted a bath?
redirect your anger because the hotel is not at fault here, you are.

BIossomtoes · 31/12/2023 08:35

It would never occur to a non parent that a bath was required to go with two cots. Why would it? Really, really unreasonable @Nannasoo.

FluffyFanny · 31/12/2023 08:36

If you wanted a bath you should have requested it. Hotel staff don't go through the guest list and try to guess what you'd prefer and fit you to the best room- it's probably a random system.

I would have managed with the shower- a bath isn't a necessity for a baby!

Vinrouge4 · 31/12/2023 08:37

It isn’t difficult to shower down two year olds.

Asiama · 31/12/2023 08:39

I am very confused why you think the hotel staff are idiots. How were they supposed to know you wanted a bath without you telling them?

At home I showered my children from 18 months onwards. Before then I used a baby bath which I filled with a hand held shower. And I remember being on holiday when DC was 9 months and I showered him by sitting him on the shower tray.

Hiddenvoice · 31/12/2023 08:39

I think most hotels have a shower now instead of a bath. Any family rooms we’ve checked into, I’ve double checked if the room has a bath (if I need it)

Sorry to say but I’d put this down to booker error and wouldn’t put the blame on the hotel. Up to you to ask if there’s another room to swap to but if it’s fully booked during the festive period then that’s not the fault of the hotel. They’ve offered a baby bath which of course comes with a rental fee but they don’t need to waive it as they didn’t make the mistake.

I’ve stayed in some hotels that have said shower/ bath and I’ve contacted the hotel prior to booking to request a certain one.
