I was looking to go to the US for a week but the prices were astronomical and out of my price range. So going to Europe for a week. Destination undecided but looking at flights, accommodation and spending money, I'd still be lucky to spend less than £1000.

Another competitive, divisive holiday thread Biscuit

Feel free to hide the thread.

it's not competive misery on how everyone is struggling. It's a valid question and people are choosing to answer.

£2k budget for 2 weeks, one week staying with family ( so including spends/ treating them) and one week in a cottage in Wales.

Blueisthecolor · 31/01/2023 19:38

Haven't booked summer holiday yet as dh is about to start a new job so we aren't sure what holidays he will be able to get. We usually go 10Nights in summer but if it's too expensive we look at 7 nights instead or maybe even stay in UK I'd that is also very expensive. Budget for that is prob about £4k with spending money. We go late June right at start of Scottish summer hols which is usually cheaper.

We do have Disneyland Paris booked for later in the year though. 5 nights for 2 adults and 2 kids staying on site with flights is about £2k but likely we will spend another £1k. It's an expensive holiday for 5 nights but a one off.

£0. No holiday.
Find these threads very divisive and depressing.
Clearly some people are not feeling the cost of living crisis at all.

They are very incentive when so many can't afford food

flyingdino · 31/01/2023 19:42

18 k for Maldives as a couple for 10 days. Flights amex ba companion on business class with a pod both return, 15k beach villa, the rest on activities, room service etc.

missymousey · 31/01/2023 19:44

£369 for a week at a UK caravan park at February half term.
Then camping in a friend's field for a week in summer.

I'd completely agree if this was in AIBU or chat. But it's in the holidays topic.

Anyway - May half term about £1200 for a week Eurocamp style in Spain (flights, accommodation only).

£2500 for 10/11 nights in France in the summer. 8 nights on another Eurocamp type site and then overnights on the way down and back. Includes Eurotunnel, overnight hotels, campsite accommodation, fuel & euro breakdown insurance.

I don't find we spend a huge amount more than at home on these type of holidays but we tend to just chill out and self cater.

DH and I might try to get a night or two away in the UK without the kids but not sure we'll be able to afford it.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 31/01/2023 19:49

Med cruise with 2 days in Rome and 2 days in Venice £8k. Family of 4, celebrating the end of exams in June.

Also looking for a cheapish week in the canaries in October, around £2k for me and DH.

Perhaps a drive to France if I can get my act together. My sister lives there so accommodation is free.

I'd like to do Edinburgh fringe but will probably camp to keep the cost down.

This is the last year holidaying with all the kids (unless they want to pay for themselves) and I'm looking forward to having more flexibility and spending 50% less in the future.

I've had a promotion this year and we prioritise holidays and family time. We have resisted up sizing our house and cars as our prospects have improved to enable us to have some lovely holidays.

I want to go further afield in the coming years whilst we are healthy and can afford it. Japan, Australia, a safari, all the old world European cities we've yet to visit. Maybe a US road trip.

OpalOwl · 31/01/2023 19:52

£80 flights to Bulgaria with friend to stay at her aunts farmhouse for 4 nights.I will obviously take a gift and make sure I am a perfect houseguest!

Caravan in wales with the dog. £600

gogohmm · 31/01/2023 19:52

I’d agree if this was on another topic, but this is the holiday topic where problem discuss holidays. You don’t have to come to this topic and depress yourself.

there will be people spending £20k plus on holidays and there will be those trying to get the best deal they can on a tight budget. My budget is no where near some people’s, and there were many years where I could have only dreamed of being able to afford to take my kids abroad. But it’s interesting to hear where people go and how much it costs.

so for us it’s £1800 for 4 of us. All now classed as adults b&b in Greece in the summer hols. Will likely be around £3200 all in all with car hire and spending money.

we will try and get another short break in, but we will have to see how things go.

CuteOrangeElephant · 31/01/2023 19:53

2 or 3 nights in London, it's literally on the way for us for a family visit so it doesn't cost extra in travel. That is all we can afford this year.

gogohmm · 31/01/2023 19:54

Got a couple of other things booked in U.K. but cheaper and will camp at meets. Plan to go away at Christmas but not booked yet

Anybridget · 31/01/2023 19:54
