I was looking to go to the US for a week but the prices were astronomical and out of my price range. So going to Europe for a week. Destination undecided but looking at flights, accommodation and spending money, I'd still be lucky to spend less than £1000.

We have booked Jiva Beach on Calis Beach, near Fethiye. Booked with Tui, we've never been to Turkey before!

I'm going here in June - just me & best friend think we were just under £2.5k for the week which includes an upgrade to a swim up room.

I'm looking for a few days somewhere in Scotland in September/October but that'll just be me, good books & good wine so need somewhere small, quiet & scenic.

Has anyone ever been to Sardinia and if so, have any recommendations for hotels or air bnb? Thinking of going there in the summer.

34and3 · 23/02/2023 06:28

£6000 for 12 days all inc in Mexico (March)
£4000 for 9 days all inc in Greece (July)
£4500 for 7 days b&b in New York (October)

Family of 5 - one under 2

I'd completely agree if this was in AIBU or chat. But it's in the holidays topic.

Anyway - May half term about £1200 for a week Eurocamp style in Spain (flights, accommodation only).

£2500 for 10/11 nights in France in the summer. 8 nights on another Eurocamp type site and then overnights on the way down and back. Includes Eurotunnel, overnight hotels, campsite accommodation, fuel & euro breakdown insurance.

I don't find we spend a huge amount more than at home on these type of holidays but we tend to just chill out and self cater.

DH and I might try to get a night or two away in the UK without the kids but not sure we'll be able to afford it.

Could I ask how you find a eurocamp style holiday with no car? We’ve just driven back from Disneyland Paris with two teens and a 6yo and they are not keen to repeat the long drive, I was hoping for eurocamp in the summer!

You need to pick one close to a town IMO. You may also need to pay to hire bikes or scooters, which can be quite pricey, and need to factor in getting stung with the (sometimes considerably) higher on site mini mart prices if walking or cycling to a supermarket isn't an option.

£0. No holiday.
Find these threads very divisive and depressing.
Clearly some people are not feeling the cost of living crisis at all.

I'm not sure that's fair, I can't afford new car or holiday etc but I don't think other people shouldn't post about it Confused

We can afford the odd takeaway or a meal at a chain restaurant I suppose I shouldn't post about that as some people cant 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's an option not to click.

I came on to find out prices and see if we can save and maybe do it 2024 (unlikely but I'm ever the optimist!)

Me and DD age 9.

just done iceland for 5 days - hotel, flights and transfers for £960. Spending money £600 though as Iceland is hugely expensive.

Cruise in summer. Balcony cabin £2600

Butlins at October half term - Mon-fri £330 including dining plan and VIP passes.

Considering a week somewhere in May too. Looked at New York but just out of reach at the moment. May do UK break instead.

You’re going to love Iceland. We went there in 2018 and loved it! We spent about £3.5k overall for two adults and were there 5 days. Most meals were cheapies to keep the cost down and our one Icelandic meal was £65 for one course and 1 drink 😬 In the Golden Circle, there’s a natural thermae spa next door to a cottage (people talk about it on trip advisor) If you’re driving and can find it, then go! Make sure you’ve got your swimmers to get in it though.

Sorry just seen this. Yes it's close to the airport and close to a city we want to visit which is the main reason we're going. The site offers shuttle service into the city or we can use public transport. The site is walking distance to a supermarket (and has a shop on site too). Because it's fairly 'cheap' to go in may half term we'll probably spend more on eating out/take aways to reduce the amount of supermarket trips. Might get a cab back from supermarket on the first day with a big shop. After that we'll be fine on foot/public transport.

Other times we've flown to do Eurocamp, we've picked up a hire car at the airport.

Also, I'm using Eurocamp as shorthand. I just book direct with the site we want to go to now, as it's typically much cheaper.

StillWantingADog · 27/02/2023 11:05

@Wombatbum
you fly and hire a car.

MissAmbrosia · 27/02/2023 14:16

500/600 euros - girls weekend in Prague in April.

About 3000 euros for flights and accommodation for 10 days in Ischia and Naples in May for DH and I. Though need to throw in some ferries and large amount of Limoncello/food on top of that. Quite fancy hiring a little boat for a day or 2.

Booked flights for Sicily in September - still organizing but I think 10 days there will be about the same.

Hoping for another girls weekend in October - maybe Spain.

moreparmesan · 03/03/2023 11:34

F with interest

PottedSprout · 04/03/2023 09:48

Been to London in Feb (£1k), going to Amsterdam this month (£1k), going to F1 in summer (2.4k). We are a couple in our late 20s though without kids.

jocktamsonsbairn · 05/03/2023 21:58

£800 for 2 weeks in a studio in Greece - just me (going with friends but having our own studios) in school holidays. This includes, flights, luggage and transfers. Flying Ryanair.

Oblomov23 · 06/03/2023 06:09

This year we are going to our Dorset caravan at least 3 times. Faro Portugal for 2 weeks, Benidorm, and Ibiza.

Last year, Easter 22, our cheapest holiday was so cheap it was farcical. Dh found it on cheeky trip. £1100, A week for 4 (both ds's are classed as adults now) AI in Cala Ratjada, Mallorca. It wasn't the Ritz but it was clean, good, reasonable, and we thought £275 pp for a week All inclusive was very cheap.

There are cheap flights. Last summer I saw flights to many Italian major cities for £18.
There are cheap deals out there.

pingading · 07/03/2023 21:38

We have literally just booked a last min holiday to the canaries for next week.
We paid £79 each for return flights (including 1 check 10kg bag ) and 1 hold bag
Hotel was 5 star all inclusive for 7 nights £510 and transfer was £15 return each
So £604 each for a week all inclusive including flights /transfers

pingading · 07/03/2023 21:39

Also November holiday is costing us £860 all inclusive for a week in Tenerife

Workyticket · 07/03/2023 22:09

An unapologetic £5,500 on 3 weeks 5 star AI in Turkey

We've been saving £150 a month each since last year and have just upped it to £300 each because we've finished paying the loan we got for the extension.

Kualma · 07/03/2023 22:31

This is based per person between DH & I.

Thailand for a week last month: £2,600ish for flights and hotel.

Brazil: £1,575 (found a fantastic deal on a well known luxury hotel chain there so the hotel is much cheaper than the advertised rate on the website otherwise this trip would have been much more!) for flights and hotel for five nights.

I’m very thankful not to have a mortgage so can splurge a little on holidays.

@pingading that's brilliant! There are lots of last minute bargains to be had at the moment, especially to the Canaries.

We recently got a great deal to Fuerteventura with Easyjet holidays.

pingading · 08/03/2023 07:56

@SecretPeston we've never been there ,is it nice ? We have only done Gran Canaria and lanzarote

WombatBombat · 08/03/2023 07:58

7-8k for South Africa at Easter.

Probably looking at 3-3.5k for a week to Spain/Greece in September and maybe 1k on a UK based holiday in June.

@pingading the beaches are gorgeous and we have found the island to be more chilled and less commercialised than GC and Lanzarote.

Funkyslippers · 08/03/2023 17:36

Workyticket can I ask how many of you and what time of year? We're paying £6,200 for 3 adults and 1 child for 2 x1 bedroom apartments AI in Turkey in the summer hols for 10 nights. I'm very fussy though and this was the only hol I could find that ticked all the boxes

Indiaplain · 08/03/2023 21:15

Timely thread as have been switching from stressing about how much our holidays will cost and thinking .. it's fine, memories, we can afford it..

Approx 4k for accommodation and flights in Austria (4 days) , Slovenia (4 days)and one night in Venice on way home.

Also doing a 4 night break in Denmark at Llandia to do all things Lego- approx £2000 for flights/accommodation

Neither accounts for spending money and we will also do some camping and a weekend away in uk for our 40ths (£1000) for the accommodation

CheshireCat1 · 07/05/2023 14:51

We’re not having any holidays this year, we’re spending money on the kids, as they’ve all now moved into their own houses, we’ll also be doing our house up.
