Morning flight- alcohol drink?

Do you have a drink at the airport if flying early morning or not?
I know lots of people have a pint with their breakfast at spoons.

A pint or a Bloody Mary for me.

roarfeckingroarr · 22/01/2023 16:49

@GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia oh my gosh how did I forget Christmas Day??!! A bottle of champagne by 10.30 in my house.

It wouldn't even occur to me. It wouldn't occur to me to drink alcohol in the morning at all.
Just out of interest, I think this is just a UK thing, I'm not sure I've seen places where you could just buy an alcoholic drink open in the mornings in other countries' airports. Am I right?

You definitely can in Spain and France.

We had champagne at 830am at Charles De Gaulle whilst waiting for a flight to NY

notimagain · 22/01/2023 16:58

@puttingontheritz

Really? In France? I'm trying to visualize the various French airports I've been in and there aren't massive food courts like in the UK, so perhaps you aren't confronted with people and their pints, but I can't think of anywhere where I've seen people drinking alcohol in the morning.

Our big local French regional airport doesn’t have pubs airside but it certainly has places where you can buy drink only, or drink with a baguette at breakfast time.

I’ve certainly seen some French rugby fans take advantage of that facility they are travelling to the UK or elsewhere to do a bit of supporting (they can be difficult to miss)…….

I’m sensing a bit of disapproval from some quarters about drinks in the AM but it’s maybe worth remembering at some of the big international airports with a lot of transfer traffic some folks seemingly drinking with their breakfast are actually drinking with their lunch or dinner….

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 22/01/2023 17:20

I never drink at the airport, definitely wouldn't drink in the morning.

I would have a glass of wine / Prosecco with dinner if I was on an overnight flight though.

kitsuneghost · 22/01/2023 17:35

Seems to be a running tone of prosecco being fine but any other alcohol being less acceptable. Prosseco is the frosty Jack's of middle aged women.

00deed1988 · 22/01/2023 17:37

I used to. Don't drink now so I don't but we went away this morning and the pub was packed of people drinking. My husband had a beer at 05:40!

You are so right.

Pour Frosty Jack's into a champagne flute and it even looks the same Grin

If the man down on his luck in the park was wearing a tuxedo and sipping champagne, would people be as judgmental? I bet they wouldn't, they would find it charming.

Alcohol is alcohol, no matter how much you pay for it, or disguise it as a cocktail.

Still loving the stealthboasts about the posh departure lounge drinks though - even though upgrading only costs a few quid and a lot of people get free access through work or their bank accounts.

Fairislefandango · 22/01/2023 17:46

No! It wouldn't occur to me tbh. I don't do morning drinking, whether I'm at home, on holiday, at an airport or on a plane. I don't fly often, but when I do it's quite likely dh or I will be driving a hire car after the flight anyway. I did have a drink on a flight a couple of times in my carefree 20s, but it really didn't improve the journey tbh!

Oigetoffmylawn · 22/01/2023 18:14

Not when flying on a family holiday with my 2 young children, but adults only I do. Or at least get one on the plane. Airport time is outside of normal time-related norms! I'm not a big drinker anyway.

kimbob100 · 22/01/2023 18:38

Absolutely! My holiday starts as soon as I get through security at the airport! Grin

cariadlet · 22/01/2023 18:41

I used to think it was really nasty, vicious posts that got deleted.

I can't believe that I had a post deleted because I was irritated by the snobbery and stealth boasting about drinking champagne in an airport lounge.

I've seen posts way worse than that which have been left up on other threads.

DoorTable · 22/01/2023 18:47

I had alcohol in the morning in an airport when I was travelling with my boyfriend in my late teens and early twenties. It was a holiday, no children, both adults. I haven't done it since I had DC because I haven't travelled without them. but now, even if I have the opportunity I just wouldn't. It's horribly dehydrating on an airplane. I don't like alcohol anymore.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 22/01/2023 19:09

The replies on this. So many above oneself. I once got so shit faced I remember nothing about the flight or turning up at my overnight hotel. It was a sheer miracle I woke when I did for my connecting flight. Got to love a work trip, utter debauchery from the word go.

motleymop · 22/01/2023 19:17

I like to have my first drink once the plane gets in the air. Hits the spot beautifully!!

Georgyporky · 22/01/2023 19:28

Are we talking about the MN thimble of sherry if it's a Xmas trip ?

WTF. No cars involved, a drink in an airport 'spoons is compulsory - even if they charge a lot more than their land-based pubs.

LynneBenfield · 22/01/2023 19:29

Nope, I don’t drink on flights either. Not for smug reasons, I just prefer not to.

LynneBenfield · 22/01/2023 19:30

Plus am often driving at the other end, so clearly not a great plan!

Titsywoo · 22/01/2023 19:33

Yes but only because I'm scared of flying! I don't drink during the actual holiday at all.

nuttymut · 22/01/2023 19:43

If it was at 6 am then no , I need caffeine then . But late morning /lunchtime maybe a glass of fizz.

I am failing to see what is up yourself about not wanting to drink alcohol in the morning before a flight. Its personal choice surely. If you want to get shit faced you go for it.

teezletangler · 22/01/2023 19:46

No, I have a coffee. I find it absolutely bizarre that people do this. But I have no appetite for alcohol before lunchtime, ever. FIL always does mimosas for Xmas morning stocking opening and I just can't understand it.

Germolenequeen · 22/01/2023 19:46

So many judgemental people - jeez 🙄

Us folks that like a drink at the airport or on the plane before a holiday (sans children obv) aren't doing it due to alcoholism 🤨

We are just kicking back relaxing and looking forward to a well earned break.

Only 13 more weeks til I'm doing it again 🙌

Too right it’s a personal choice. It’s all the “oh no heaven forbid” posts ✌️

I hope on your return you'll be contacting AA. Shocking behaviour 🍷
