Do you have a drink at the airport if flying early morning or not?
I know lots of people have a pint with their breakfast at spoons.

Yes, another one for “bubbles in the lounge”, very much a brunch vibe. Full disclosure: we pay for No1 Lounge or similar. It’s great value. Guarantees you a seat, depending on the lounge you choose also have waiter service, all food and drink included, I also grab a few bottles of water for the flight (never enough water on the plane). Nice loos, sometimes showers, a place to put your bag. By the time I’ve had a coffee, two glasses of fizz, some breakfast and grabbed some water it’s paid for itself. Not sure how I feel about a best bitter and a bacon sandwich at that time of day.

It wouldn't even occur to me. It wouldn't occur to me to drink alcohol in the morning at all.
Just out of interest, I think this is just a UK thing, I'm not sure I've seen places where you could just buy an alcoholic drink open in the mornings in other countries' airports. Am I right?

RobinaCherry · 22/01/2023 15:24

I have double brandies, and on the plane. I'm terrified of flying so try and be drunk

Me too. Not brandy though, as that brings a headache on too fast. A couple of glasses of vino and I can just about board without turning and running away.
Of course I land with a mild hangover but that's the price I pay to get there.

Italy, Spain, France, of course you can.

Love a drinin the morning, funnily enough, not at night 😎Would not want beer though!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/01/2023 15:29

No. Just no.

ShaunaTheSheep · 22/01/2023 15:31

Bloody Mary for me, pint or a whiskey for DH.

Patanat · 22/01/2023 15:31

Terrible fear of flying here. It’s no longer easy to get Valium for flying so booze it is.

burnoutbabe · 22/01/2023 15:37

A pint at the weatherspoons at 6am? Nope my stomach turns at the thought of drinking that early.

However I probably will have something alcoholic at Lounge next week as it costs £27 so I want max value for money! Fizzy costs extra but maybe an Irish coffee or baileys or archers and lemonade.

FedUpWithEverything123 · 22/01/2023 15:41

Sometimes! Or I'll wait until I'm on the plane. Holiday begins as soon as I get to the airport!

Germolenequeen · 22/01/2023 15:42

If going on hols with friends yes - two glasses Prosecco in airport and then two or three on flight 🤭

If travelling on own then nope - wait til I've reached my destination 😉

TheChosenTwo · 22/01/2023 15:44

Haha pretty much the same as @Patanat to be honest! I have a couple of drinks to chill me out a bit before strapping myself into a tin can that launches itself into the air 😂
Hate flying but it’s the price I pay to go on holiday.

IntentionalError · 22/01/2023 15:45

Definitely not. I fly quite a bit, and I always shake my head at the people who are sinking pints at 6 am. I’m not a morning person at all, and there is no way I could face alcohol before lunchtime.
A smoked salmon sandwich, almond croissant & cappuccino from Pret is my usual pre-flight breakfast.

JudgeRudy · 22/01/2023 15:46

Why are you asking? Seems to be a mix of "yes I do that often", to "no,i really wouldnt"
I'd not notice or care if someone I was breakfasting with had a pint or a coffee any more than if they had beans or tomatoes, though I don't think I'd be planning to eat at 6am!

quietnightmare · 22/01/2023 15:47

100% because if that plan is going down I'm going down happy

Why shake your head ? Each to their own.

Generally yes, usually just the one. It's tradition. Not in Spoons though and usually no breakfast.

Movinghouseatlast · 22/01/2023 15:49

No, never. I love a drink but just can't understand drinking in the morning at the airport. I'd feel shit gor the rest of the day.

QuietYou · 22/01/2023 15:49

Not usually but last time I flew it was with a friend and we paid for a lounge and despite thinking I'd just have one drink with her I ended up having a few. It was so relaxing and a great start to the holiday.

NewNovember · 22/01/2023 15:51

No, I am not an alcoholic nor do I need alcohol to enjoy a holiday.

MrsMoggy · 22/01/2023 15:51

Yes, best tasting pint ever is the first one in the airport after the stress of going through security. Have also enjoyed the lounges a couple of times but that was a few years back when it was only about £15 to go in and have food and drinks, wouldn’t bother nowadays.

But I’m also one of those people who has a drink on the train on the way to an all-dayer or a UK holiday. Probably considered common as muck 😁

TheBigWangTheory · 22/01/2023 15:51

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/01/2023 14:51

No, and I do find it really really weird.

It would just make you feel shitty, unless you kept at it, in which case you’d be shitfaced on the plane.

You've got confused. It might make YOU feel shitty, but why would it make me?

Why do you find it "really really" weird that I might like a drink? In what way does it affect you? I'm not following your train of thought here.

Latenightreader · 22/01/2023 15:56

I'm another nervous flyer and a gin and ginger ale has helped me board a plane on several occasions. I also try tasters in the duty free - I feel as if airports exist in their own timezone so the usual rules don't apply. I wouldn't have more than one drink (though might have another on the plane depending on the time), just enough to make me a little more relaxed than usual. I don't think I would if travelling with my 4YO (no plans to fly with her at the moment), especially not the first time.

quinceh · 22/01/2023 15:57

Have had a pint with breakfast at the airport, yeah!

secretrugbyfan · 22/01/2023 15:57

Flying anywhere for work - No, definitely not.

When flying on holiday with the kids when they were small - No.

When flying on our own on holiday - once you are past airport security it's 5pm somewhere in the world, so hell yes!!

AbreathofFrenchair · 22/01/2023 15:58

Have to the love posters on here that shake their head or cant grasp people having a pint or referring to it as "sinking pints" yet think the phrase "a few glasses of bubbles in the lounge" makes it more socially acceptable 😂😂

However you word it, you're still drinking alcohol at an airport.
