It's a bit too hot in Spain....where to go in 2023??

So, currently on day 8 of a 10 day all inclusive in Spain. It's hot. So hot the kids don't want to leave the complex which I get. It's also making my eldest a bit grumpy. She's happy in the pool but in all honestly I'm getting cabin fever and I think they are getting a bit bored.
Next year we were thinking of going to the vendee area for 14 nights. We did it in 2019 and we had the most amazing hol. Temp was around 28 degrees & we had the car so we could travel to beaches etc. However, I notice that Vendee is a similar temp to Spain (37degrees) this year so it could possibly cause similar problems

So, my query is this.....where should we consider for next august that will be a little cooler to allow us to explore & will be sunny but not baking hot. Happy to fly or drive. Maybe northern France but I have bad childhood memories of holidays in the rain in Brittany! Austria? Any amazing gems appreciated.

@Afterfire yes I'm tempted to agree with you. It's a worry

@EscapeRoomToTheSun please keep your nasty comments to yourself. We fly max of once a year for a family holiday & deserve it after working hard all year.

You can really easily go for a sunshine holiday without flying also! Eurostar to France is really easy, and far nicer than flying. I'd suggest south of France in May (by train) and UK in August. I'm on the coast in Wales and yes it's hot, but the breeze means its perfectly pleasant. Even in the last super-heatwave it wasn't as hot as most of the UK

Norway? I’ve never been but it looks beautiful.

We've just come back from a cruise to Norway. It was absolutely beautiful, stunning scenery and comfortable temps of around 18'. We were very lucky to have no rain though, apparently it rains a lot. Bit of a shock to come home to this heatwave!

smelters · 13/08/2022 16:32

Oh and it was a no fly cruise, UK port, hassle free.

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 16:46

@smelters that might be a nice option thanks. I'll look at that. I'd love to see Norway.

It’s been lovely at Duinrell in the Netherlands

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 16:58

@Fivemoreminutes1 I've heard good things about that area. I'll need to do some research I think

I’d recommend a Baltic cruise. We’ve done 3 in august! From the uk so no hassle of flying but 2 weeks with loads of lovely stops - some beach type ones, some cities and some lovely scenery. Visiting lots of different countries and the evening entertainment, good food and pools onboard. Prices compatible to on land all inclusive resorts dependent on cabin (we alway get an inside cabin - 4 berth since having the kids - it’s small but you literally only shower and sleep in it!).

We’ve had nice weather - sometimes a little overcast on some days and the odd shower but also some lovely warm days (up to high 20s) but much better weather for exploring new places.

Probably too late for this holiday but if you are in Majorca the Caves of Drach are amazing (and nice and cool!)

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 17:11

@Bickles great idea. I'm going to try to get us on a tour tomorrow. Off to reception now

We went to the Vendee a few years ago, and it absolutely poured down without stopping for 48 hours straight. And then it was distinctly cool for the rest of our time there. We didn't even see the beach, the weather was so bad.

So who knows what it will do next year, OP.

Itsgettinghotinhre · 13/08/2022 17:18

Nearly everywhere is hot in August. Its the month that's the issue... try May.

I've done France very early June and it was 30s on a couple of days.

Davethecat2000 · 13/08/2022 17:20

We're in Menorca. It is bloody hot but we are lucky to be in a vills with a pool and a/c.

Beach was unbearable at 10am this morning.

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 17:23

Booked onto the caves! Excited to get out. Thank you for the idea

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 17:24

@Davethecat2000 I went for a walk to town early this morning on my own and it was boiling. Was nice to get out but I've to jump in the pool when I got back

mac1974 · 13/08/2022 17:28

@Itsgettinghotinhre yes I agree but if we want to go anywhere for more than a week we have to travel in august unfortunately

Maybe Scotland? I'd look on the recent weather map that showed scorched ground and choose the green bits.
North Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all looked greener than England.

Jewel1968 · 13/08/2022 17:35

Somewhere in England? Flying very bad for climate. I get the desire to have a change of scene but UK has a lot to offer

TheFairyCaravan · 13/08/2022 17:52

Fuerteventura might suit, it’s warm but breezy so it makes it bearable.

Enjoy the caves tomorrow, they’re stunning.

LadyEloise1 · 13/08/2022 18:07

We went to the Vendee in August and the weather was poor.
I'd love to holiday somewhere that was about 22 degrees consistently.
Any idea where that might be ?

Dalaidramailama · 13/08/2022 18:10

We were in Majorca early June and it was 32 most days. Try Bulgaria that’s cooler.

ZenNudist · 13/08/2022 18:15

I do UK with pool in August and then holiday abroad in May and Oct. Been to a lovely farm with private pool in Norfolk. Same last year. There's some nice places in Somerset as well. So much more chilled than flying abroad.

Love the idea of a baltic cruise. Sopot in Poland near Gdansk is meant to be lovely and you can go to the Hell peninsula from there!

I was also looking at doing lake bled in Slovenia in August but flights from northern England were not direct and costly.

etulosba · 13/08/2022 18:20

Norway? I’ve never been but it looks beautiful.

I have. You need deep pockets!

rookiemere · 13/08/2022 18:37

Someone earlier this week was complaining about Tenerife being too cold - so that might be an option- however we've always been in October and found it plenty hot enough.

We just tend to go in the UK for summer now and book abroad for October half term. Having said that we're looking at doing this 8 mile food and drink walk https://www.magnalonga.co.uk/ in 33 degrees heat tomorrow Angry ( DS is away in Scotland with a friends family)

Friends own an apartment in Bulgaria ( the DW is Bulgarian) and they said when they used to go in English school summer holidays it was a perfect heat of around 25-28 degrees, but now it's in the 30s. So unfortunately I think it's global warming at work.
