@Selma22 any update ?
Yes they have updated the system as documents received.Been stuck at that for a while.I think it's going to be closer to 10 weeks

NanooCov · 01/04/2022 09:31

Have recently applied for three passports so here's my experience:

Renewal for DS - took about 18 days from me sending his old passport until receipt of new one
Renewal for me - took about 15 days from me sending my old passport until receipt of new one
New passport for another DS - it's been about 26 days since I sent his documents and passport not received yet, but I've received an email to say it has been approved.

I was pleasantly surprised about the speed of the renewals - was expecting far longer.

MirandaWest · 04/04/2022 23:19

Both DCs passports arrived today - so applied online 15th March and arrived 4th April so just under 3 weeks Smile

Amani · 06/04/2022 14:53

Update - applied for a renewal online on 11th March and new passport received in the post today! Smile

123rd · 06/04/2022 15:07

Ours was a little longer. Applied for renewal & sent off old passport on 23/02/22. New passport arrived yesterday.
We have not received the old one back though. We should get it back shouldn't we ?!

OhRosalind · 06/04/2022 15:41

Has anyone sent documents to Durham recently (for a first child’s passport)? Did the online tracking/text service get updated at each stage?

Our has been at “documents received” for ages (and it took weeks for that update). Sad

a1l320n · 10/04/2022 18:26

@OhRosalind not Durham but bottle. Have been on documents recieved since 30th. How about u? Given up on holiday now !

OhRosalind · 10/04/2022 21:59

Yes, same. Sad There was a depressing Guardian article yesterday about “meltdown” at passport renewals with huge backlogs, stuff getting lost… I’m not optimistic about getting it any time soon.

a1l320n · 11/04/2022 09:07

@OhRosalind mine was approved this am! 2.5 weeks till holiday not sure if we will make it though!

pinkpanther84 · 11/04/2022 20:17

I have just done a child and adult renewal. Send documents off on March 16, received the child passport a week ago and adult passport today. There was a delay in confirming receipt of the documents, but once that was done it was fairly quick from then. Old passports/marriage cert not yet received back but at least we have the new passports (June holiday!.

UsernameIsAlreadyTaken · 11/04/2022 20:52

I’m now getting super stressed about my applications.

DS first passport - I received an email tonight telling me I still need to send my documents otherwise they are withdrawing the application. I sent the docs and they were signed for on 3rd March!!!

DD renewal - that was processed in about 3 weeks but they made a spelling mistake so we had to send it back, again, it was signed for but but no one can tell us what has happened to it!

I’ve called, done multiple online enquiries and web chat and no one can tell me anything.

I think I need to call my insurance company and travel company to find out if I have any options.

Utter nightmare.

Peoniesandcats · 12/04/2022 08:08

I’ve noticed the website has removed it’s content that originally said 5 week turnaround time. Now it just says allow up to 10 weeks Sad

Cherylinaa · 12/04/2022 10:04

@Selma22 did you manage to change your application to fast track. It seems a lot of people are being told they can't cancel when getting to their appointment. Thanks

HollieD31 · 12/04/2022 14:48

Yes and no...I did drive to Peterborough with hand written cancellation letter for the fast track appointment. It would have been fine if my countersignature wouldn't have made an error on the back of the photos (told by agents on the phone ).Two days before second appointment I received a notice that passport is being printed (the normal route).
But when I was in Peterborough nobody cared about the initial application online e and were happy to take the letter.

Krabby · 12/04/2022 16:19

@Krabby

I did a post office check and send for a child passport renewal a week ago - age 14 so countersigning needed.

I got a text today saying they'd received the application and to expect the passport by 23rd May!

Is it really taking that long for renewals? DS is due to go away on 26th may so panicking a bit, I thought I'd left enough time!

I posted on here panicking that I'd done post office check and send for a teenager's passport renewal on 7th March and got a text on 14 march saying to expect the passport to arrive by 23 MAY!

Pleased to report I had a text today saying the passport is ready and will arrive in the next few days.

So way earlier than the 23 May/ 11 weeks originally quoted! This was via Liverpool passport office btw.

I hope everyone else gets their passports sorted as well.

bellsbuss · 13/04/2022 12:58

I renewed 3 on March 17th, all different passport offices. 2 have arrived today and 1 still saying your application is being processed.

Sunshinexx95 · 27/04/2022 23:14

@bellsbuss is it still being processed? my application just changed from documents received to processed…

Smidge001 · 27/04/2022 23:23

These are the notifications I've received in relation to my passport renewal, which incorporated a name change following marriage:

Application received Sat 9/4
Documents received Fri 22/4 (am certain they'll have actually received them on the Tues 12/4)
Application approved Tues 26/4
Passport printed Weds 27/4

Given we've had Easter in the middle of that, I think it's a pretty good turnaround. Maybe Boris's rant did something! (hopefully means the dvla will pull their fingers out too).

Sunshinexx95 · 27/04/2022 23:28

@Smidge001
That sounds so good!!!
I applied 11th of March sent documents on the 15th of March and got a message documents received 29th of March and 25th of April again :/
And I just logged in to see the application and it says application processed 27th (today)
Don't know how long it will stay on processed...

bellsbuss · 27/04/2022 23:40

@Sunshinexx95 just checked and it's still being showing being processed

TheSillyMastiff · 27/04/2022 23:42

I think I'm going to apply this weekend for our mid August holiday to be on the safe side after reading this thread. All just renewals so hopefully that will be quicker than first applications 😬

Website is saying allow 10 weeks and we've got 15 from Saturday. Hopefully that will be ok.

Sunshinexx95 · 27/04/2022 23:45

@bellsbuss
Oh ... I got my hopes up today 😢
Mine stayed on documents received for over 4 weeks. Now I can't imagine waiting another 4 weeks 😮‍💨😢

How long did yours stay on documents received?
And where did you send yours? Mine is in Peterborough

Cheesechips · 27/04/2022 23:46

Mine took 3 weeks to renew very recently, and that included sending my marriage certificate. My sons first passport is 25 days and counting but it's being printed. Fortunately in no rush for it.

Waitwait · 28/04/2022 00:12

Our experience was the opposite - applied for new baby's (first) passport and older daughter's renewal on 10 March. Baby's passport arrived 10 days ago. Still waiting for daughter's renewal, which still says 'processing'. We're supposed to be going away at half term and I'm starting to stress as we can't now book the one-week fast track service.

bellsbuss · 28/04/2022 08:05

@Sunshinexx95 on one of the ones I have got back it went from we have received your documents to being approved. I think the system is quite slow at updating. I'm trying not to panic
