@BeingATwatItsABingThing

Update on mine.

I submitted the application on the 13th February and I had the message to tell me it was being sent to me on the 10th March. It finally arrived this morning so 5 weeks.

And DD’s birth certificate has arrived back with us today which now means it’s all completed.
lillyrabbit · 25/03/2022 16:14

@a1l320n

I sent my dd birth certificate 12 working days ago and no update. Panicking. I don’t know when it was received though
I wouldn't panic yet - we sent old passport for a child's renewal and a birth certificate for a child's new passport on 2nd March - passport office only acknowledged receipt on Tuesday even though I know they arrived weeks ago! It's just taking a while for them to work their way through the system.
Noideawhattowritehere · 25/03/2022 16:19

Got mine back last week, it took four weeks including 48hrs for me to resubmit my photo. However as a pp said, it took over a week for my passport to be acknowledged as in the system, despite sending it tracked and recorded so knowing it got there in 24hrs.

By the way, if your photo is rejected, most Max Spielman shops will take them and they're somehow linked up to the passport office so your photo gets approved by the computer on the spot (or they'll tweak/retake it straight away), you just enter your code on the passport office website when you get home.

I applied for a child's renewal at the end of Feb when it was 3 weeks estimated turn around time. Chased on Friday and again today (long call times) and it's now taking 10 weeks. They have had our documents for 3 weeks but not yet scanned on to system let alone reviewed. Advice was that once scanned it could take another 5 weeks to get the new passport. This is Bootle. Anyway if you have upcoming holiday plans best to use the fast track unless you have loads of time to spare.

Runforhome · 28/03/2022 22:07

My new passport arrived today so took 20 days. I had a text to say it had been sent to the courier for delivery and then it just turned up.

a1l320n · 29/03/2022 08:30

@Hepherlous
Which number did you ring? Or did you get through to progress team? When I ring they can tell me nothing about my progress and I’m waiting a callback! Online it says 5 weeks for a passport so why are they are saying ten on phone!!!

I called 0300 222 000 then selected 3 and 2. During the recorded messages in the process it says unless 10 weeks have passed you should hang up (which I ignored). It wasn't a call back for me, it was the process team I was speaking to.

Datsandcogs · 29/03/2022 08:50

Renewal for adult passport was less than 3 weeks. Applied online earlier this month.

a1l320n · 29/03/2022 09:13

@Hepherlous did you send it tracked for? How many working days since you posted it off?

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/03/2022 09:24

To be clear, it seems like passport RENEWALS are not hugely delayed, but NEW PASSPORTS for babies are taking much longer than normal.

We did both applications on the same day - my adult passport renewal and the application for baby's first passport. His photo was great and his signatory person did her bit the same day. We posted my old passport and his birth certificate, both tracked. Got confirmation both documents were delivered following day.

I've had a number of text messages confirming receipt of my passport, confirming the application has been approved, confirming the new passport has been dispateched.

NOTHING about the baby's passport whatosever. It's showing as "awaiting documents" in the tracker.

I think we'll be lucky to get in 10 weeks, to be honest :(

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/03/2022 09:24

(Typo city, sorry!)

a1l320n · 29/03/2022 09:27

@WoolyMammoth55 can I ask what date your documents arrived at passport office? Thanks

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/03/2022 09:52

Hi @a1l320n - we did the applications online on 16th March and the documents were received 17th March. I just checked and my adult passport has been approved and printed, but not yet dispatched. Absolutely nothing about DS's application although we know his birth certificate was received that day. Wish you all the best of luck with it!

lillyrabbit · 30/03/2022 10:42

I've just had the texts to say my children's passports (one new, one renewal) have been processed, and one has been printed. Rough timeline so far:
Online application done: 28th Feb
Identity confirmed: 28th Feb
Documents sent: 1st March
Documents acknowledged by passport office: 22nd March
Passports approved: 25th March (renewal), 28th March (new)
Passport dispatched: 30th March (renewal), new one not sent yet

So assuming they both arrive within the next week, the whole process will have taken just over 5 weeks for both. Adult renewal done on the same day arrived within 3 weeks.

Iloveacurry · 30/03/2022 10:47

I renewed my daughter’s recently online, it took just over 2 weeks to get the new passport.

a1l320n · 30/03/2022 11:00

@WoolyMammoth55 I just been told documents recieved taken 3 weeks exactly from when posted
Now no idea how long next but takes!

MirandaWest · 30/03/2022 11:04

Submitted application online for both DS and DD on 15th March. They're 18 and 16 so first adult passport and so needed someone to confirm identity. Got photos taken in a photobooth and just had to put in the codes on there to the application forms.

Sent their old passports recorded the next day - the tracker updated that day for DS and next day for DD.

5 days later it said someone needed to confirm identity. Application approved on 24th March.

DS's says its been printed at 1:55am this morning. DD still showing as application approved.

So overall will be between 2 and 3 weeks for whole process I hope.

pinkpanther84 · 30/03/2022 20:17

Just had an email from passport office reminding me to send in my documents. It says if you have sent them in the last 2 weeks to ignore the email. I sent them over 2 weeks ago, they have been signed for. Does anyone know what I can do- is there any way of calling them?!

furmumma · 30/03/2022 20:33

I sent mine off a fortnight ago and I had a text I'd get it back at the beginning of June.

Amani · 30/03/2022 22:33

By way of an update for a renewal:
Posted 11th March to Peterborough
Received 14th March (Royal Mail tracking)
Email reminder received from passport office on 26th March asking me to send documents but ignore this if the documents have been sent (got me feeling nervous Confused)
Acknowledgment of receiving document 28th March
Upon application the message online was renewals are currently taking 5 weeks, so halfway through the process...

dementedpixie · 30/03/2022 22:35

@Krabby

I did a post office check and send for a child passport renewal a week ago - age 14 so countersigning needed.

I got a text today saying they'd received the application and to expect the passport by 23rd May!

Is it really taking that long for renewals? DS is due to go away on 26th may so panicking a bit, I thought I'd left enough time!

Only under 12s need a countersignature
Flockameanie · 31/03/2022 10:25

My advice to anyone needing one sooner than 4 months time is to do a fast track.

We applied for a child renewal over 4 weeks ago and the only update we’ve had is that they received the application docs - that was 10 days ago, 3 weeks after we sent them.

We called (many many hours on hold) and were advised to make a fast track (in person apt) where we could withdraw the original application. We did that, got to the appointment yesterday only to be told they couldn’t do a fast track because they can’t withdraw the original application (ie totally contradicting what we were told to do by the people on the phone.)

We are beyond fucked off. We’re supposed to be going on holiday in 8 days. When we applied for the renewal 4.5 weeks ago turn around times were stated to be 3 weeks. So we thought we had plenty of time. Now I expect we’ll have to cancel the trip, lose the non-refundable bits we’ve paid for. But mostly I’m dreading telling the DC, who are so excited about going on a holiday for the first time in ages. SadAngry

Peoniesandcats · 31/03/2022 15:41

I applied for two new passports and sent birth certificates last week and the turnaround time said 5 weeks, but reading everyone's experiences it is much longer!

Wish the HM passport webpage was up to date, then customers could have made an informed decision to do fast track.

Flockameanie · 31/03/2022 16:30

It said 3 weeks when we applied 4.5 weeks ago @Peoniesandcats. Like you, I wish it was more accurate as we definitely would have gone for fast track in the first instance if it had said 5 weeks when we'd applied - as we were only 6 weeks out from holiday at that point.
