Sun 950 holiday cancelled today

worriedandannoyed · 18/01/2020 21:49

Hi, has anyone else had their sun holidays cancelled? I got an email today saying the holiday I've booked in France isn't available (even though it's still available on the auto amp website!) so they've cancelled it. But I've booked flights that are non-refundable. From the sound of it many people have been affected. I can't get through on the phone line to see if they'll give me money for my flights I now can't use

I doubt you’ll get you flight money back, they can still be used, you just need to find new accommodation.

Embracelife · 18/01/2020 21:56

You can still use the flights...you just have to find other accommodation.

Look at euro camp or similar. Look at the same camping but booking direct and save for the extra it might cost.....

Unless you booked flights and accommodation together via the same travel operator you wont be able to get refunded flights....
You may be able to change the flights for free or cancel for a fee

worriedandannoyed · 18/01/2020 22:30

It's eurocamp who have cancelled the booking. I can use the flights yes but I've spent ages searching and there's no accommodation I can afford. I'd paid £120, eurocamp want £900 to book direct with them. And the caravans are still available, they just overbooked so won't honour the booking

The only way I could afford a holiday was through the sun deal - I can't afford any more money so I can't use my flights!

I'm devastated at the thought of losing so much money. They must be liable as they admit it was their error.

OP posts:
Embracelife · 18/01/2020 23:30

They are not liable for your flights booking.

What about a pre pitched tent instead of the caravan? They are cheaper. Negotiate with them

Stabbitha · 19/01/2020 01:49

It does state not to book flights until confirmation from the park has been received.

You must be so frustrated. I know I would be.

MummytoCSJH · 19/01/2020 01:56

How awful. I'm assuming no travel insurance? You may have something with your bank or home insurance if you didnt take it out separately. Don't know why people are saying well you can still use the flights.. I thought it was pretty obvious that the reason you'd have used sun deal was because its 200x more expensive normally, so what a silly thing to say. Goady Hmm hope it works out some way for you OP!

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 09:52

No I hadn't got round to booking travel insurance.

I won't find a same holiday in the same price bracket so that means we can't go, I was using savings as it is to go and it was our only chance of going away anywhere.

The email confirmation says it's booked, why would I think otherwise? Why wouldn't I book flights at this point and risk them selling out or going up in price?

I've been frantically looking for something else in the area that won't be too much more money and there's nothing so it would mean paying charges to change flights, on top of paying extra to go somewhere else so it just doesn't look possible that we can go.

bohemia14 · 19/01/2020 09:56

When did you get the email confirmation that the accommodation is booked and when did you book the flights? If they have confirmed the accommodation it should be honoured. Check the small print.

DreamingofSunshine · 19/01/2020 10:00

How disappointing for you OP.

I know it doesn't help now, but so many people don't sort out travel insurance as soon as they book, but it's really important to have it in place when you book, not before you travel. I've been caught out by this before, and hopefully anyone else reading this can learn from my mistake.

Embracelife · 19/01/2020 10:03

It s statement of fact.
Unless you book flights and accommodation together there is no link or obligation.

OP can complain to sun holidays but legally there may be nothing she can claim...
Options are

Try the cancellation travel insurance which op took out when booking the flights does it cover cancellation if accommodation falls through?

Look for alternatives e g pre pitched tents may be cheapest option

Pay to amend flights if allowed

Dont go and write off the flight costs

Howmanysleepsnow · 19/01/2020 10:06

Where and when were you going? How many of you are there? I’m good at finding cheap accommodation and happy to google.

Embracelife · 19/01/2020 10:07

But check the email again that said it was booked and any clauses...
Your beef is with sun holidays over the accommodation. Did they cancel but offer alternative? Do they have something in their t and c? Contact sun newspaper

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 10:10

I received the email confirmation Monday and then booked my flights afterwards. The email encourages you to book transport!!

The flights are to Nantes on 21st August for a week. There's not a lot else in the area apart from camp sites with water parks/pools etc. I don't want an apartment in the middle of the town with no pool, no beach, my kids will be so bored!

The same campsite and the same accommodation is still showing as available on the eurocamp website, they've obviously just gone over their quota of cheap deals and don't want to honour the ones they let people book because of THEIR error! I'm livid. Spent all evening and this morning looking and can't find anything else I can afford.

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 10:15

The email saying they won't honour it is from Greenbank holidays who own eurocamp. There are no contact details from the sun, they say all contact should go through the campsite.

bohemia14 · 19/01/2020 10:25

Does the email from the Sun confirm the accommodation is booked? Is there anything in the small print which says they can cancel?

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 10:39

Yes the email from the sun says 'we've made your holiday booking!' It confirms all the details and says we've noticed you haven't booked your ferry, click here to book now

Why would they encourage you to book a ferry if the holiday wasn't confirmed?

I can't see anything in the terms and conditions about them cancelling!

OP posts:
Clymene · 19/01/2020 10:40

This is what it says in the T&Cs

Holidays offered are organised by independent parks and operators. Your contract will be with the owner or operator of your holiday park and comes into effect when a holiday confirmation has been issued to you.

That obviously means when the holiday confirmation has been issued by the owner or operator, rather than the Sun but I think that wording could be clearer :(

Are there no other Sun holidays nearby?

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 10:47

Yes thank you I've just read that.

There are no sun holidays left, definitely none in France or Spain

OP posts:
Clymene · 19/01/2020 11:07

I think all you can do is try and get your flights refunded then. I can totally see why you booked flights given they were encouraging you to book your ferry but I suspect that is via them so is all connected whereas your flights were direct. Have you checked the cancellation policy for the flights?

Howmanysleepsnow · 19/01/2020 11:14

This apartment with pool is £392, 550m from the beach www.holidu.co.uk/redirect/shared?checkin=2020-08-21&checkout=2020-08-28&offerId=6676237&amenities=POOL&adults=2&children=2&maxPrice=140&q=Nantes%20region,%20France&includeGroupIds=6676237&utm_source=app_share&utm_term=ios_share_apartmentpage
I’ll see if I can find cheaper...

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 11:18

Yes flights are with ryanair so non refundable and I'll have to pay fees to change them. My cheap holiday is becoming a nightmare, wish I hadn't bothered! I'll check out that apartment thank you x

OP posts:
worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 11:23

Thank you howmanysleepsnow. The thing is I'd booked this particular campsite as it was near a supermarket, had loads of activities and near the beach. So an easy holiday for a single parent! The apartment looks lovely but I'd need a car and I'm not sure how I'd get food etc to keep it a cheap holiday

OP posts:
Howmanysleepsnow · 19/01/2020 11:25

Which campsite was it?

Clymene · 19/01/2020 11:35

Are your flights Friday to Friday? Lots of places are Saturday-Saturday Sad
