Sun 950 holiday cancelled today

Hi, has anyone else had their sun holidays cancelled? I got an email today saying the holiday I've booked in France isn't available (even though it's still available on the auto amp website!) so they've cancelled it. But I've booked flights that are non-refundable. From the sound of it many people have been affected. I can't get through on the phone line to see if they'll give me money for my flights I now can't use

Hi I also had mine cancelled. Im annoyed as they waited a days to inform us and by that time there was no holidays left to book. Does anyone have any idea if they refund the ferry that was booked at the same time.

Michelle1999 · 19/01/2020 22:36

They have a link that says cancel holiday but not sure if you use it that it also cancels the ferry? We had best get a full refund as the ferry was through the sun link. I was going to wait and phone the sun helpline tomorrow but that is an 0344 number! On an earlier post it said over 3000 people have been affected. Do you think computer error just let loads of people book the park then they realised it was over subscribed? Did anyone get a sun holiday to France in August? Was it first come first served or have they all been cancelled. I was going to phone and see what they say tomorrow but if so many people have been let down I don’t think they are going to care if I phone and have a moan or not as they are probably not going to do anything about it. I can’t see any other websites discussing being let down by these holidays. Has anyone got any other links? Just wondered if anyone has had any luck by complaining?

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 22:50

There's some Facebook groups with lots and lots of posts complaining. I don't think anyone seems to have got their holiday confirmed in France or Spain for August.

Have a look at the £9.50/£15 sun holidays group.

They should refund your ferry if it was booked through them surely!

I would have thought so. I've asked them to respond to this question as they are advising 21 days for a refund. I've looked through Airbnb and found a pretty decent caravan which doesn't work out that much more expensive. I'm also going to try and phone tomorrow but will post any response to my email. My daughter is really upset.
Most likely that had lots of booking but they still have lots of availability.

Leeboy22001 · 19/01/2020 23:21

We booked Clarys Plage atvaround 2am in the Sunday morning, for August, we got confirmation of holiday Thursday (from Eurocamp), we had friends who also booked at the same time as us, both had cancellation email yesterday and today ! :( . I did notice at the time their booking system kept having booking errors when we tried to book Domaine Des Ormes, and a few other places for May half term.. I wonder if this is related !??

SBUK · 20/01/2020 11:10

Hi - I've just had 1 3 Sun day holiday in France rejected in April and my wife has had 1 7 day holiday in August in France rejected also. We're in trouble as we booked a day out at a place which is non-refundable. Really disappointed in The Sun Hols - this hasn't happened to us before. Has it happened to anyone else bar this year? I've emailed Grrenbank for clarification - this is all vey poor!

worriedandannoyed · 20/01/2020 11:47

From what I've read it's happened before but only to the odd person, not with is widespread overselling that's happened this year. I can't believe that it went unnoticed all that time - people may have not booked flights if it had been cancelled earlier.

I don't think Greenbanks are budging at all, people are getting the £25 goodwill gesture and that's it. Even if they offered a % discount on alternatives booked with them it would help towards people booking something else

Finally got through to helpline they apologised but nothing they can do 😂 they said ferry will automatically be cancelled as booked via the sun. Didn’t say how long for refund? Just said cheque for £25 will be in post to apologise. I said if I didn’t follow the cancel link would it become available but she said no it wouldn’t work like that. I asked if anyone got there holiday and she said few were available and depended on your party size. Well lucky them as I booked at 2 in the morning so just of been amongst the first! Oh well at least they shouldn’t make sane mistake next year !

Talcott2007 · 20/01/2020 12:00

One of my Friend's has had their Sun Holiday cancelled this week in a similar fashion. No real apology or refunds likely to be forthcoming. Sun seemed to have very much shrugged their shoulders about it all so far - it seems to be a case of their systems allowed more 'holidays' to be booked than they have the capacity to supplement the cost of (rather than the actual accommodation being oversold/unavailable)
Really hope you sort something out which doesn't leave you too out of pocket!!

cheeseisascheesedoes · 20/01/2020 12:01

This is terrible! As well as the FB groups are you Tweeting about it too? You should write to Martyn Lewis, and also that Guardian money section is good for following up consumer complaints. Did you book the flights on a credit card? This may come under the refund scheme (though I highly doubt it).
We stay on Eurocamp sites but booked directly with the campsite and in our own tent. I think Eurocamp is really expensive!
Hopefully the sheer number of people affected will help get a positive conclusion.

CozzieG · 20/01/2020 15:07

Oh no, the same has just happened to me! I'd booked Lake Garda in August and I've received the same email. I'd also already booked the flights. I'm gutted, was really looking forward to it and now it will cost a fortune. How has it taken them 8 days since booking to tell me!

skyla975 · 20/01/2020 21:18

Hi thats terrible, I had the same happen, I received the same email last Saturday, and Id booked 7 days to Tuscany, Italy, I thought it was too good to be true, we were gutted, the only dates available were in June, so Ive booked directly through Eurocamp now for the same date in Aug but Ive had to pay a lot lot more, so we are not impressed. Apparently this is the first time this has happened but surely not on this scale, there is still accommodation available on the same dates in the same park, but I guess they only have so many promotional caravans and spaces, what a con. I feel cheated like most people.

foodtoorder · 20/01/2020 21:37

You could try booking the same camp through lifestyle holidays? Or canvas holidays? They are very often cheaper

Woodycat · 21/01/2020 21:54

We have had the same thing happen I feel your pain-got through to helpline but it was just a teenager saying I am so sorry over and over.

Emma6779 · 22/01/2020 20:16

I’ve been affected and have annual travel insurances and they’ve stated it’s not covered under the policy.

Sar767865 · 22/01/2020 20:20

Hi. This happened to us Saturday evening. We were meant to be going to Italy and also have flights booked ! Very annoying. They blamed a computer glitch. Nothing else available and you have to wait 21 days for a refund !!! Will never book a Sun holiday again.

Emma6779 · 22/01/2020 20:36

Have you had your flights refunded from anywhere please?

Sar767865 · 22/01/2020 20:42

Hi. I have only had accommodation refunded. Not flights unfortunately and they are not transferable either

Emma6779 · 22/01/2020 20:48

Thank you.
That’s everything exhausted then, travel insurance won’t pay out either so £700 lost as a result of a computer glitch, that it took them 10 days to tell me about. I only booked the flights on tuesday evening, only just over the 24 hours that you cancel within.

caroloro · 22/01/2020 22:51

Apparently there's more than 3000 nbpokings affected. It's a proper mess.

Holidayaddict · 23/01/2020 00:47

This is awful. Done loads of UK holidays through the Sun with no issues. Was thinking of trying a Euro one maybe next year. Don't think I'll bother now Hmm

sanitygirl · 23/01/2020 12:47

You can get 7 nights at Camping La Plage with Venue Holidays from £409 for an erected tent - cheaper with their early booking discount
www.venueholidays.com/uk/vend%C3%A9e/camping_la_plage

sanitygirl · 23/01/2020 12:49

It's near a supermarket and not far from the site you originally booked

poorbuthappy · 23/01/2020 12:52

What's the actual glitch?
That they realised that they'd sold holiday far cheaper than normal?

I appreciate the confirmation booking from the Sun isn't the holiday operator saying Yes, but surely this is fraudulent?

worriedandannoyed · 24/01/2020 17:05

I'm not sure, they just said it was a computer error.

I've never booked a sun holiday before. So receiving an email saying my holidays I booked and here's a link to book a ferry led me to believe it was booked! There are hundreds of people online in the same boat, who've booked flights and now face either losing money on them or paying out money they can't afford on other accommodation.

The company are very remorseful from the emails I've had but I'm sure they could offer more compensation than they have done!
